Wait... So everybody wants quad core, retina display, 1GB ram, new design, LTE and an 8mp camera + improved front camera. But you are not willing to pay a small amount more?

Anyway, I doubt this is true as basically no one knows the price apart from the who are people closely involved in its creation. Anyone could of just taken a picture of a plane and printed out some homemade documents to get more website traffic.

I don't know... I doubt about it.

Typically, Apple always keep the same price, or even drop it. I understand they might have some new cost such Retina Display or so, but I'm quite sure they would do everything to keep the price to the same price, even if they have to not include some features yet.

If they do increase the price, it means it will really be worth it and a huge step in comparison to the iPad 2.

Anyway, let's just wait few more days and we'll all know :)

thats a opinion. a retina display will be awesome ofcource. but IMO a price increase isnt worth it unless they also use the latest and greatest CPU and GPU. Il buy it either way, but il be disappointed if the price increase is only for a retina display, better camera, and only slightly increased specs.
i also am, i say again, very sad no one ever said there's a possibility of 128gb in any rumor :(

I recently sold my 2.5 yr old Macbook Air in anticipation of getting my first iPad.

If the new iPad doesn't have a 128GB option and the prices have been raised, I'll likely forgo getting the new iPad and will get a new Macbook Air instead.

I do find it hard to believe that some chinese site knows the prices over a week before they has been announced by Apple.

Apple hasn't raised the price on the iPhone this whole time while including significant new technology each and every year. Price didn't raise when they added a front facing camera, retina display, etc.

Don't see any reason why they would start with the iPad.

this makes the iPad even more of a gimmick.

apple has some really good values now:

the base MBA is great value
the ATV2 is great value

the iPad is horrible value
the iPhone is horrible value

the iPod Touch is reasonable value

it's quite interesting

apple tv is a great value, but iphone isnt? haha. you got it backwards. apple tv is a complete bust to this point

So, you all want:

- A bleeding-edge retina display
- In a shell no more than 1mm thicker than an iPad 2
- With LTE
- Made by people paid a respectable wage
- Made by people with an appreciating currency

And yet any price increase is a deal breaker?

OR How Apple could make several SVP and VPs, CEO, CFOs billionaires? May be they should take a little cut on the profit than cutting the wages of Poor foxconn worker. Read there is another DRAM company failing with 5 Billion dollar debt.

It looks like in Computer industry one has to be poor to make another Rich.

One thing to note, last year when iPad 2 announced iPad had some resale value, try selling your iPad 2 now.

$79 may just put off many people from buying it (it is not that $79 going to make them rich or poor), just stick with $499 apple.

Thanks.

If there's a screen resolution increase, Apple would have to up the memory to be able to play higher definition video.

so people who wouldn't be happy paying an extra $70 for:

-one of the highest res mobile screens available
-upgraded processor
-upgraded GPU
-upgraded Cameras
-upgraded cell radios (4G LTE)

I wonder, what exactly do you want apple to add?

A grilled cheese maker? Built in Piggy Bank to save for iPad 4? Free dinner when you buy an iPad? New pair of shoes?

I mean, really, what is it that you want?

no, you don't understand how they went about upping the screen res.

a video that was 1080x720 is not going to appear as 1/4 of the iPad 3 screen, and is not going to need any extra anything to run it. Images and videos are going to appear the exact same as they do on the iPad 2.

Yes, I think a $70 increase in price is drastically more expensive. Especially if you consider that the 16 GB iPad 3 model, if the rumours are true, will be almost as expensive as the 32 GB iPad 2 model.

And since I live in Europe, and Apple does one on one pricing, the price increase over here will be about $135.

btw i think tim cook also reads these rumors and a bit of comments, just to sometimes laugh his ass off. i bet he posesses a ipad 3 prototype fully working as we speak ^^

Shipping Rumor:

While Apple may be shipping iPad3s right now, this story doesn't "feel" right. Apple uses FedEx and UPS, which have specific hubs all packages go before distributing to local hubs. None of the airports listed are among either companies main or regional hubs. Packages do not go direct from Hong Kong or China to LAX or ORD. They go to Alaska then Indiana or KY, or other hub first.

It doesn't matter where FedEx, UPS or Apple's shipments regularly go to. IF these freighters are full of only Apple iPads, then you can rest assured that special arrangements have been made to accommodate them. They would obviously need to go to secure holding areas until they are shipped to the various stores that sell them.

You don't know much about logistics, do you.

More storage?

It seems unlike Apple to increase the price even while adding new features. I'm really hoping that the memory is doubling for each price bracket (ie 32, 64, 128). That would be a slight price reduction for the same storage. Probably wishful thinking, but I can always hope :)

With a retina screen, graphics intensive apps will double or more in size, and the rumored 1080p video will also consume a lot of space, so I don't think this is impossible.

The 16gb iPad 2 will stick around at a lower price.

yep thats what i said. apple doesnt do currency converting from USD to euro :(

I call bluff... can't see how apple will continue to charge $499 for the now "outdated" iPad 2.. The more likely scenario is the iPad 3 will run $499 and the iPad 2 will get a price cut..

While I would love to replace my iPad 1, making the price higher reinforces my view that the iPad in general is too expensive (like the Macbook) to simply replace every year when it is updated.

(Of course, others probably have more disposible income and can feel free to disagree.)

I would like to see applecare extended to three years to bring the new ipad models in line with the computer laptop side of the market. (Phones in the US are almost always sold at a discount with two year contracts, so it is logical to only have two years of applecare on those devices.)

it actually, because you could have almost 8 NOOKs for that price

And you still would only have 8 really decent eReaders.

I own a Nook Classic, Kindle Fire and iPad. Each are great devices in their own right, but of those devices only the iPad comes close to being a true "Post PC" device that could someday replace my MBA or MBP for everyday use.

Holy mother of god...

...if the law enforcement agencies dug into the whys and wherefores of certain 'dangerous' individuals' international movements in the way that someone's managed to hawk into these iPad travel arrangements, I think the world might just be one hell of a safer place in which to live!!!

iPhone 4S upgraded GPU
iPhone 4S upgraded cameras

I hope this isn't true. Waiting for my first iPad. If true, I would consider MBA. I hope they keep the base model at $499.

If that's the case I would definitely expect the iPad 2 to live on in some capacity at a lower price point (though still above the Kindle Fire/Nook Tablet).

$399 for a 32 GB iPad 2 Wifi?

B

No surprise here. But at least there is no quad core chip. It would cost even more.

I bet they do more of the iPod Touch 3rd Gen business model, where the entry level model will have the lowest specs, something along the lines of an iPad 2 with 8gb storage and 512mb RAM for 249 or so to compete with Kindle. The 3rd gen touch 8gb was just the 2nd gen model.

if the price increase were to make the fanatics here feel worthy... it better hav some upgraded features...

personally... i wouldnt mind for the increase... if they hav:
-A6 processor
-retina display
-a much higher megapixels for the rear camera
-longer lasting battery

Darn!

I thought the iPad 3 would have:
- Retina Display
- LTE/4G
- 128GB storage
- A6 Quad Core Processor
- 48-hour battery life
- $199 price point

I guess I have to back to reality now.

Seriously, I don't expect Apple to raise prices on iPad 3, though I do expect them to lower prices on iPad 2 before Windows 8 makes it to market.
