I actually wouldn't mind it being a little bit thicker. I don't want a dainty watch on my wrist.

IMHO if it was any thicker it wouldn't be a watch, it'd be a clock!

I do agree with those frustrated at Apple obsession with making products thinner when they really would be better off making them have longer battery life or better performance/features, but I really think the Watch is too thick. I like them, but the thickness, battery life and price all put me off getting one, in that order.

From day one it also reminded me a lot of the original iPad, which went remarkably thinner with the iPad 2 compared to the difference in thickness between all generations afterwards, so it wouldn't surprise me at all the next version of the Apple Watch was 40% thinner than the first.

Guys, the S1 is going to be blown away by the S2.

Do I personally think the watch needs to be thinner? No. But let's see how efficient the S2 is before we jump to conclusions. The current S1 is a 28nm package. If they move to 20nm or below that will have a dramatic impact on what other components can be added as well as power draw.

Apple could go 50% thinner and not have to change the method of attaching the bands, unless they wanted to alienate customers and/or force people to buy more bands. (I doubt people would buy Apple bands anymore if they did change the method of attachment. Then again, I wouldn't put it past Apple to do a bone headed move like that because they do think all their customers are fanboy idiots that will buy anything and everything every year.)

If Apple thinks the watch is perfectly functional as is and needs thinned down before they make it more capable I'd have to say that no one at Apple is actually using their Watch for more than what can be done on a fitbit.

The Watch needs its' independence from the iPhone before any lame brained attempt at thinning it.

I'm starting to think Ive and Cook are trying to put Apple behind everyone else on purpose for some stupid reason.

How about they don't make it any thinner, but use that 'extra' space to put in better battery!

Now that would be great!
This is what's frustrating with Apple. Everyone already praised the design of the Apple Watch. There's no need to make it thinner. Everyone did complain about the battery life. You'd think Apple would focus on the area the Watch falls short.

1.5-2 day battery life with an always on clock display would be ideal.

IMO the S1 barely makes the cut. The S2 better have some impressive gains.

People saying it needs to be thinning/independent from iPhone don't get the purpose of today's watch. Give it a lot more time (how many years did it take for iPhone to break from iTunes?)

The main thing id like in a new Apple Watch is accurate heart rate tracking during workout - its currently garbage. A real heart rate monitor says i'm doing 155bpm (which I bloody well feel) and the Apple Watch things i'm doing 55bpm...which lower than most peoples resting heart rate ffs![/QUOTE
An always on display wouldn't work well with OLED screens. Also, what is to point of an always on display if you not looking at it at all times

my Asus Zenwatch has an AMOLED screen and is able to have "always on" time. I believe it shifts the "always on" watch faces by a few pixels every now and then to avoid burn in. It's also a simplified watch face when the watch is idle and then shows the full face when you move your wrist to look at it. I do wish my Apple Watch had always on, at least just a simple digital face with hours/minutes.

I would prefer better battery life and speed over thinness. And how about some new faces please, (with digital seconds) - or at least a more functional SDK to make better complications.

Sorry Apple, but if 20%-40% thinner is going to be the main selling point for the AW2, then I'll be holding on to my AW for another year or two.

"My extensive research indicates that Apple will release a new product that's thinner than the last one, also I agree with the other guy about the cameras." How do I get a job like that?

Damn it. I wanted to buy an Apple Watch tomorrow. Seeing rumours like this makes me doubt whether to get it now or wait. I really really want one. Blah.

Wait. This version is clearly a first generation device. I got caught up in the initial excitement and bought in on launch day. I'm glad I did, and I've found the watch really useful, but if it broke today I'd wait for the next version before I replaced it.

Still would like to see Apple come out with a really good fitness band. I've tried with the watch, but found I still really just don't like wearing a big watch every day especially since my days are at a computer all day. Reducing the thickness might help some but not enough to make a difference for me.

If it were any thicker it would be a cube...

I thought I'd be more bothered by the bulk than I am. It help that the sensor package on the back doesn't add to the profile once its on my wrist.

More battery life would be nice-- but it doesn't need to be much more. My current pattern is to put in power reserve at night but leave it on my wrist, and then charge it while I shower in the morning. That seems to work. I'd like it if I could keep it active at night-- but then they'd also need to auto-dim the display.

Uh...who made the claim that thinness will be the main selling point?

It's very clear from Cooks statement on sensors a few years back that the wearable devices from Apple are going to be gaining a ton of new functionality.

I can't wait to see what the S2 teardown reveals.

You are not thinking different. They could just remove the battery and make the thinnest watch ever. Also it could have a single hand, only for hours, to be more elegant. This is thinking different.

Agreed. If that's the only thing that makes the second generation better, I wouldn't upgrade.

I also wouldn't upgrade if the main selling point were that it smelled like rotting fish. Sorry Apple, I don't want a rotten-fish-smelling Apple watch. You need to tell these analysts to make up some more appealing rumors.
