has anyone stuck in a new hard drive and tried this $10 disk to do an install yet?

I read the other posts in here, but i agree that using the disk to wipe first still is a verification of your previous OS. The true test would be to put in a brand new drive and try this dvd.

Id like to know the answer.

thanks.

Yes, I installed a new hard drive in my MacNook Pro recently and I hadn't installed any OS on it yet. I tried using the UTD to install Snow Leopard but it failed. Snow Leopard UTD first checks if you have leopard installed. If you don't it won't allow you to proceed with the installation.

im going to be installing a new hard drive too. so if i have a time machine backup with SL already installed, will the UTD dvd realize i have SL already installed and will it even give me the option to restore my backup?

I am so glad I didn't wait for my UTD "upgrade" disk. The whole thing has been frustrating. Apple chose to ignore all real buyers because they were only getting $10 more. The problem is I spent over $2k on a new computer, and Apple gave preferential treatment to those paying $29! Once Apple has your money, you're dead to them until you're ready to give them another $2k. I really don't care for Apple's attitude anymore. As a company they're all lost. I think it's going to require some failures before it's going to make them remember what made them the Apple of our eyes. It wasn't by this sort of treatment! It was when it was a computer company that Apple cared about the Mac and its customers the most. Now, the iPhone brings unparalleled margins which has lead to greed and disrespect for customers shelling out thousands. They pay more respect to people paying $29 because it might make them want to buy another Mac, an iPhone, an iPod, and some apps! Screw someone who already gave us their money! "Ha ha ha" think Steve and crew!

i was actually trying to use the UTD disk to install SL on my old Tiger MBP, and fair enough i couldn't use it. it did offer the option to use the Time Machine backup to restore, so i would assume yes, you can use it that way.
