It was proven that at 6.1" thick the device can bend very very easy....now on 5.9" really? i mean users will now have to be careful how they hold their next ipad pro in landscape in their hands...a little flex will bend the device??
I hope will not be true...6.1"mm its minimum with aluminium 6000 series
really? anti-bend materials can be developed. Technology evolves you know..

Sorry, but Apple has no business calling this "Pro" if they pull the headphone jack. They would be much better off pulling their heads out of their a%^&s than the headphone jack from something that audio and video professionals are supposed to use.
Are you joking? Really? Kill that damn jack, with a digital connection, audio cardo, simply adapter you can everything. If you are a pro you already use an external device like iRIg

Still trying to figure out what the heck that smart connector is doing on the back...

It will be the new universal connector for a magnetic snap-on-adapter with a sturdy 10 inch cable for connecting external things like headphones ($79.99, not included).

We already have the Apple Trademark There’s An App For That™, so the There’s An Adapter For That™ is a simple, evolutionary step.

Careful, you'll stir up the portphobes on this site who'll start on you about the correlation between professional activities and 3.5 mm prehistoric technology. ;)
No doubt. Idiotic. I make my living as a video professional, and daily plug my Sony MDR V6 headphones into my iPad checking levels. Why those particular headphones? They are largely the industry standard, and a couple Audio Technicas and Sennheisers many pros use. While I use AirPods CONSTANTLY, they are not what I use for WORK, Apple.

Y'know, I can buy their cock and bull about needing the internal space on an iPhone, but iPads are larger and are utilized in a significantly wider scope of scenarios, some of which uses the headphone jack to output audio without the need of toting additional dongles or adapters.

But whatever. This company is deep in their bubble and stopped caring about real-world usage long ago.

It would of course be nice to keep a headphone jack, but if the trade off is for water and dust resistance, I could live without it. I almost always use AirPods for the iPad now anyway, and keep a Lightning adapter with my Bose earbuds. Water and dust resistance will allow the iPads to be used in a lot of work and play scenarios.

Seems like with the Smart Connector where it is, and where the FaceID will be housed, Apple is saying this is primarily a device to be used in portrait.... Which just... Doesn't make sense

More people will be mad about the lack of a headphone jack than the number of people who would have used the jack if it were included.
I agree. However, unlike the phones, getting the iPads any little bit lighter is a big deal. After holding them for extended periods they do feel quite heavy. And for that reason my 12.9” Pro is usually always on a desk in landscape with a keyboard.
I traded in my XS Max for the 5.8” becasue as a daily driver with a case it is just too heavy.

Ditching the jack is fine by me. However I hope they would reveal an updated version of the Airpods to coincide with its launch. Launch the new Airpods in black and charge $29.95 extra for that color, just because. Tim I love you buddy never stop being you.

Forget to add: make the new black pods only work with this years iPad and phones.

No, as a pro I use Sound Devices gear, mostly. But I'm not going to carry around external devices all the time. Sometimes I just need to freaking plug in a set of real headphones. How does an existing headphone jack inconvenience you?

If they ditch the jack, I won't upgrade. I'll use my existing Pro until it becomes too slow to use, then I will just be done with the product. Wireless headphones aren't right for every task. Removing the jack doesn't get me anything other than pain.

I can see future iMac's with the same thinness of a bezel and rounded edge screen

An "all*-in-one computer" with more and more shifted to the outside?

Actually, I do believe the iMac will eventually be little more than maybe a Thunderbolt hub... but called iMac so they can charge a few thousand for a hub. Attach EVERYTHING that is currently in an iMac to the hub to build what used to come inside the all-in-one iMacs: screen, graphics card, CPU and on and on (all sold separately of course). "Introducing our thinnest & lightest iMac ever!"

IMO, the consumer price of "thinner" seems less and less about miniaturization magic and more and more about ejecting useful utility out to accessory items (sold separately). If you just about have to buy some accessories to keep using something as you used to be able to use it, I think the "thinner" benefit is no longer wow! Instead, the "and lighter" part is not really lighter if you have to carry around some other stuff in the bag to use it as you used to be able to use it... more technological anorexia instead of miniaturization without compromises.

Yeah, the pros need to change not hold everyone back becasue they can’t adapt. That’s the worse excuse. If you would have said something about charging and listening, that’s a real thing. But if it’s just about old habits and old tech? Nope.

Oh I dunno if you can afford a $700+ tablet you can afford a $10 adapter. If you’re a true pro sound engineer you already have adapters for the iPad anyway, so it’s moot.
