It would of course be nice to keep a headphone jack, but if the trade off is for water and dust resistance, I could live without it. I almost always use AirPods for the iPad now anyway, and keep a Lightning adapter with my Bose earbuds. Water and dust resistance will allow the iPads to be used in a lot of work and play scenarios.

I don't buy this excuse, my friend. If one's using an iPad in hazardous elements, one will likely have a strong, protective case for said environments. iPads are quite fragile devices.

Sorry, but Apple has no business calling this "Pro" if they pull the headphone jack. They would be much better off pulling their heads out of their a%^&s than the headphone jack from something that audio and video professionals are supposed to use.

That’s a ridiculous statement. Almost all audio Pros use DACs, not headphone jacks, even more so on a tablet.

An equal amount of MacRumors commenters (speaking for Pros) were pissed when Apple removed the Line In from the Retina MacBook Pro in 2012. Again, “Pros” don’t go DI. You’d have a preamp/DAC for audio recording.

I can see this being pretty frustrating for consumers, sure. And I’m not defending Apple removing it. I’m just boggled with how blanketed and uninformed your statement is.

It was proven that at 6.1" thick the device can bend very very easy....now on 5.9" really? i mean users will now have to be careful how they hold their next ipad pro in landscape in their hands...a little flex will bend the device??
I hope will not be true...6.1"mm its minimum with aluminium 6000 series
My iPad pro 10.5 is bent. I still use it, but the screen is not quite as responsive as it was originally, and there is a bright patch in one area also caused by the accident.

I actually was considering upgrading my barely year-old device specifically because I want one that isn't broken, and chalking up the cost to live and learn. But hearing that the new models would be even easier to bend is not a good sign. These things cost a lot of money, and while i make a good effort to take care of them, the fact is, they're handled constantly and go everywhere. They need some natural ruggedness.

And putting a case on it defeats the whole purpose of them making it thinner. Plus, it'd be thinner and stronger overall if the ruggesness was built in vs via a case addon. You end up with an overall thicker and not quite as strong device.

Good. No one uses headphones on an ipad anyway. If you want to use headphones u should just buy the $160 EarPods.

You realize you’ve identified that you’re incapable of discerning between fact and opinion. Congrats.

Next time find a source for this sweeping ********. People in music, entertainment, and AV industries use the aux port frequently. I witness this on a weekly basis at the event center I work at.

Don’t care about the headphone jack, dongles really don’t bother me as much as most people, apparently, but the switch to USB-C will not sit well with me. I have cables in many parts of my house and work, and just bought a few USB-C to Lightning cables. If they’ll be obsolete with iPads I won’t be happy.

Samsung has had waterproof phones while maintaining the headphone jack for years. Water and dust resistance has nothing to do with it.

I’m digging the camera bump. Bring on the wobblePad!
Assuming sarcasm. I hate the camera bump. I'm tired of having to remember to always set my iPad screen-side down because if I don't, the stupid camera bumps scratches wood surfaces. And then I can't see notifications etc on the screen.

Plus, i don't even need a hi-res camera on my iPad. A flush camera would still have plenty of oomph for scanning documents and bar codes, and that's all I use the iPad camera for. Real pictures are taken on my phone.

Yes! Again back to Steve Jobs era of thin. Can’t wait to see this piece of beauty!

Won't be looking at another iPad probably until 2020 and when they include Super OLED. My iPad Pro 12.9 bought this year, should last me very long time. I still folks with iPad 2's.

I don't use headphone jack on my iPad, so it's ok for me, but I don’t want another iPad with camera bump. Why? Just why? It's so annoying!

Hmmm... Samsung Galaxy Tab S2: thickness - 5.6mm and it has 3.5 jack. Where there's a will, there's a way. Granted, Apple may not be as technically advanced as Samsung but still...

I’ll wait until the device is announced. Not point in being outraged over something that might not happen.
Are you new to Apple rumors? I do not think so. And you know full well that these sorts of rumors historically have been very accurate.

these things will be $1500 and your complaining about a $160 pair of AirPods? Im not saying I have a ton of $$$ but if your going to use the best iPad why not use the best headphones that they make FOR IT with it? This kind of reminds me of the complaints about the AC+ cost. If you are buying a premium device you should be prepared for the premium accessories.

Sorry, I haven't been keeping up lately, but is there supposed to be a new base-level iPad reveal this month, or is it anticipated to just be the Pros? I don't really need a Pro level iPad and looking to keep around the $400 mark. Didn't want to pull the trigger on the current 9.7" if a new one is coming out soon.

These are the pro iPads. If you wait closer to the holidays, there will be some incredible deals on the iPad 2018 (9.7 in base model), which currently sells for $329 retail. If you don't need the latest tech, these base models are a great way to go. I have been using my 2017 iPad for about 1.5 years, and it has been great.
