Not the hugest fan of rounded corners. Wasn't with the iPhone X, and am not here. But so it goes. I wonder what this all says about possible display resolutions on the newer models and sizes.

Especially curious as I was under the impression that the 12.9" display wasn't changing but the current 10.5" would be changing to a 11". I guess that makes sense as the smaller sized iPad Pro has, thus far, been a differently sized model with each release...
Based on the Mac Otakara rumored dimensions:

1) The 12.9” will stay the same screen size and presumably the same resolution. Bezel about 9mm.

2) The smaller Pro is 11.0” with a new 10:7 aspect ratio. The resolution would seem to be 2380 x 1666. Width stays the same but there will be about 15mm of added height. Like the 12.9”, bezels will be about 9mm.

Why be stuck? Find a better tablet and buy it, problem solved.

Oh wait, problem... there is no better tablet—at any price. Along with Apple Watch and AirPods, Cook nails it. With not a dollar of “Apple tax” in sight. (I’d add HomePod and iMac Pro in there too but then there’s a little room for debate, I suppose.)

Dude, even MacWorld thinks the new Tab S4 is an iPad killer. Only thing saving Apple these days is the sticky ecosystem. Enjoy your lovely rounded corners while I enjoy the extreme functionality of my new S4.

Somebody had too much Samsung koolaid .

Good luck with that.

Don’t worry. I fully intend to.

iPad killer? I don’t think that means what you think it means.

The article you’re referring to actually said “the iPad Pro is still the best tablet you can buy. It’s got a great chip (that’s about to get better), a fantastic design (that’s about to get better), and the best app support by a country mile.”

Enjoy what you enjoy

You don’t need to justify anything. That said there is still no competition for iPads from any android tablets

I don't know why but rounded screen corners are a bit of a bother for me. The iPhone X is a fantastic device, and I understand why they did the rounded corners to bring the screen closer to the edge, but I never got to /like/ them, just tolerate them.

Of course, your last statement is not accurate, unless the dozens of S4 reviewers are wrong and you are right. The iPad remains simply a huge iphone sans the phone part. Little compelling substance to it. I used one since day 1 and can attest to the superiority of the Samsung Tab series. My iPad Pro is still around, but pretty much sits there on a table, unused. No reason to pick the thing up.

No objective reviewer would say the S4 is better than the iPad Pro as a tablet

For one it’s awful for apps.

S4 is being marketed as a computer type replacement yet gives it a year old chip? Makes little sense as power is needed and there is not enough power on this thing for real work

The S pen is nice but overall android tablets are simply not there for a reason

Samsung deserves credit for trying though

It's not awful for apps. What are your examples? I'm easily doing as much on my Tab as I ever did on any of my several iPads over the years. And what exactly does the iPad bring to the table that is better than the Tab. Not sure you are speaking from extensive experience or just repeating what you've read on macrumors.

Androidpolice doesn’t seem to think too highly of it, for one.

The Galaxy Tab S4 is a pretty nice hardware package, but it's also everything that is wrong with Android tablets: scarce tablet apps for professionals and consumers alike, little interface optimization, and an extremely slim accessory ecosystem. And at $650, it's just way too damn expensive. Samsung's attempt to fill the gaping hole that is the Android tablet software and content experience with DeX isn't a complete failure, but it's so far from being a success that I can't recommend it to anyone. I wrote this entire review on the Tab S4, and I've been using it as my only laptop for several days now. When I return home to my Pixelbook, I'll be switching back immediately.

In short: if you want a great tablet, buy an iPad. If you want a tablet designed for "real work," buy a Surface Go or Pro. And if you want a lightweight platform for web productivity, buy a Chromebook. There's really no reason to even consider the Tab S4.

Lack of tablet optimised apps, and many good apps are still iOS only. Better ecosystem support all around.

4:3 is a better aspect ratio for work than 16:10.

Lack of updates.

Hard to recommend this over a 10.5” iPad Pro, for the price.

Just make a new 12.9inch iPad Pro with an oled screen, faceID and smaller bezels and I’m happy, rounded corners or not.

Yeah, if the corners are rounded mostly likely something is being cut off? I don't need that hassle. I'll stay with the current models for now.

I've got a 10.5 Pro and probably won't update until OLED. I've started reading books on my iPhone X as opposed to the iPad because I can't stand the grey "black" at night anymore.

OLED would raise the price considerably... what would be your estimate, maybe an extra $400?

Yes, but it would be worth it, to me at least. I have an old LED tv and it rarely gets switched on anymore. I watch all my shows and movies on the iPad. An OLED iPad would be the perfect Netflix/media device imo, I’d rather spend my money on that than a oled tv.
Too bad none of the rumors surrounding the 2018 iPads makes mention of oled panels, that I’ve seen.

Yeah it would be a beautiful display. No doubt it’s on the roadmap, but just too expensive right now at that size, at the quality Apple desires. Apple’s $2.5+ billion investment in LG is meant to bring competition to OLED displays, hopefully it will pay off soon.

If I had to guess maybe OLED iPad Pro in 2020, I think next year is too soon unfortunately. Maybe optional, +$100-200. Not sure if enough people would pay the extra money though; the LCD display is already great. But it will come... watches, then iPhone, then iPad.
