In fact - If I were a developer, I would attempt to steer clear of making any apps for their platform. The public spat between Epic Games and Apple is another example. Both are in the wrong but I would tend to agree with Epic since their stance was to save users money.

Good thing you are not a developer because you would be cutting out a significant amount of revenue.

As one note, it looks like the beta is currently filled up. As another note, I think that this is great! As someone with kids and a small home, it's great to be able to stream a laptop, ipad, etc. I have OneCast, but I can imagine that the Xbox app may have better controller support.

Apple is frustrating users more and more. Just stay out of the apps! Sell your hardware and shut up. Pisses me off that I bought a 12" iPad Pro and yet Apple deems it necessary to meddle with what apps I can and can't use. Apple is becoming to look at its users as the enemy.
People feared what Microsoft could become. Apple has become it and worse. I love their hardware, but they definitely need to be smacked down by governments.

I agree, Epic removing their game from the app store saved users alot of money

Theoretically, could a user access xcloud from their own xbox using this app? Essentially, instead of directly connecting to xcloud (a to b), they would be connecting to their xbox which connects to the xcloud (a to b to c) ... might be a way around Apple's specific rules because the offending device would be the user's own console
Why would anyone want to do that? That's simply going to add more latency to a already connection dependent service. If it would be possible, you'd essentially be streaming a stream of a stream. Twice the lag and half the fun. Besides, I don't think you can access XCloud via an XBox.

Epic had bucks for sale on android, outside the play store, for ages and they didn’t discount anything until the through their tantrum. Epic has never been about saving people money. It’s all about getting a bigger cut of the pie. Growth of their first person angry birds is slowing and they are trying to find alternative revenue.

I don’t blame them for trying but I do blame them for persisting.

There is no way to do this (and no reason to do this). The Xcloud service is included with Game Pass Ultimate. If you have Game Pass Ultimate, you can download every game included in the service to your local Xbox. There is no way to play Xcloud on an Xbox because you’re supposed to just download the games.

So Xbox game pass allows users to download games to an Xbox, which can then be used to stream from the Xbox to iPhones...sounds like Xbox game pass can be used from an iPhone after all in a round about fashion if a user owns an xbox!

I don’t get how PS4 Remote Play and Steam Link are ok, but xcloud and Nvidia now and whatnot aren’t. Maybe I’m wrong but they seem like equal security risks if that’s the concern. If it’s content, again, why are remote play and Steam link approved? I don’t want Apple to just stay out of apps as I’ve seen called for, but I do wish they’d relax some restrictions like this. I don’t know where to draw the line on potentially “objectionable” content, but I feel like it’s a little too conservative right now.

These apps suck, so much latency to be useful even if your devices are hardwired on your network
On the PC side I use an app called Parsec which is very low latency on a LAN but no iOS client. Moonlight is also good and has clients for iOS to play a PC game remotely. I have it running on ATV with an Xbox One controller via BT and it is just like a console for many games.

So then Apple should just allow an xcloud app on their store but they don’t because they’re an anticompetitive monopoly.

It won't beat a Nintendo Switch for better control and games for little kids.

How is Apple in the wrong when their policy has been the same since day 1? Please, enlighten us.
Actually you’re wrong. Game streaming has been possible for years. They introduced a new rule recently that prohibits apps streaming interface to a computer that isn’t on your local network.

So yea they introduce new rules when they decide they don’t want something to compete with them

This has to be approved, because of Sony’s remote play app does the same thing. At this point if this was the only way to play Game Pass games on the go I’d be fine with it. Just download to my local Xbox, and stream from there. Assuming my internet is good enough. No need for the full xCloud experience.

If you are in the car how can you connect your iPhone to your Xbox at home? That makes no sense.

This is what they would have you believe, but the reality is they just want to make more money. Epic knew the App Store fee structure, and they tried to pass this fee to their users, claiming that it was all Apple’s fault.

They can price their product however they want. The fee is a cost of doing business, just like there is in any operation. You don’t see any .99 apps being sold for 1.29. A developer should price their app how they see fit while accounting for any fees involved.

It's the reason MS wrote a letter to the courts banning Apple from terminating all of Epic's certificate. The games that are streamed still download executable code for various controllers and configurations. Similar to Stadia and why Google didnt go for iOS.

Huh, so funny. So iOS will stream from you local XBox and your local XBox streams from xCloud. Apples head will explode 🤯
