I'm waiting for the 5.4" model to be released before I buy anything. Currently I'm using a 4.7" 6S, which I enjoy greatly, but is really showing its age. Been eyeing the SE because it's the closest successor, but the 5.4" model sounds nice. Hearing the rumors recently that the launch will be delayed, part of me wants to just buy the SE now.

4.7" to me is the perfect size. I haven't tried the old Plus model iPhones enough to know if I could handle one of those or not, but to me it seems too large. 6.1" seems like it would be too large for me, and anything above that is overkill, IMO. But I do have iPads which I use for media so my use case may be different from most large phone buyers.

Well, I don’t live in Destin, but it’s our go-to for beach trips, and my husband has actually been looking at property in that area. There aren’t really a lot of places off the beaten path there, since it’s pretty much all along the busy strips. I enjoy the blackened lobster at Hammerhead’s in Sandestin, but I’m a huge lobster fan. My husband really likes Pompano Joe’s on the beach on Old 98. We almost always stay within walking distance. There’s one other place along there we have enjoyed, but I’ll be darned if I can remember the name of it.

It’s crazy. I mean I like having choices, but then again, I don’t really like having choices. Everything seems to have its pros/cons.

I don’t think you could ever go wrong with an iPad if you don’t have one. I LOVE my iPad Pro - it’s my only computing device at this point.

I have the 11’ and I really love it. I had the first 2 generations of the 12.9, and was excited to go to something more portable. Of course the 12.9 is smaller than it was then as well, and I’ve messed with it a little at AT&T the last couple times I’ve been in. I MIGHT go to the 12.9 when they release new ones next year, depending on how my usage develops over time. I picked one up in person at Best Buy a month or so ago and thought it felt huge, but in AT&T last week I was thinking it didn’t seem as big to me.

For now, I think the 11 is the perfect mix of portability and desktop use, but if I find I ultimately don’t take it off the desk much, I may wind up with a 12.9 down the road.

Lol, the 12.9 isn’t that heavy. As soon as I get up in the morning, I grab my IPad and make coffee. I take it easily everywhere in the house. It stays at home. If the 11 is a good size for you, then you should stick with it. I bought an expensive ZuguCase for this iPad so I can have it at different angles. I’m going to use it until it falls apart lol.

I’m trading in an old 6s that needs a battery replacement, but it still works flawlessly. I still have my 11 pro sitting here that ill probably trade in for the 5.4” 12 once it’s released. If not, I’ll sell my 11 pro and stick with the se for the next year or so.

Off topic, but has anyone found a screen protector that fits the new se? I went through two spigen screen protectors just now. Even though the packaging says it will fit the new se, it doesn’t. The black borders cut off the lettering on the letters Q and P on my keyboard and the sides are lifting up. Almost as if the screen has a slight curve making the protector not sit flush. I have another amazon special coming in the mail Wednesday that I’ll try, but again, it says compatible with the 2020 se/6/7/8 phones. I don’t think it will fit. I did see somewhere (maybe youtube) that the dbrand prism screen protector was specifically designed for the new se and fits well. Just looking for some input before I spend $40 on the dbrand.

I have on my SE the ones that Apple install in the store with their machine. Haven’t had any issues with it. The guy did mention if there was any trouble to take it back to have a new one put on. Maybe I’m lucky.

If you decide to get the se, you’re going to love it! My white se was just delivered and I already set it up coming from the 11 pro that I’ve had since launch. The smaller size and the weight difference is very noticeable. I’m really liking the size so far even though it’s only been about an hour. lol...

Thanks! I’m finding the size and weight of the 11 Pro is VERY noticeable vs the 8. Feels like a brick in my cell phone cargo pants pocket. And I don’t like how it sticks out a 1/4.

Now like I have said I had the 11 Pro for 3 months before then I went back to my 8.

Yesterday was the 1st day at work to give the 11 Pro the real test since I’m at work for 8-10 hours a day. I don’t sit at a desk which doesn’t give me the luxury of using a dock or keeping the iPhone on a desk. I’m in the field in and out of a work truck.

Couple times yesterday the 11 Pro actually came out of my cell phone pocket when I was getting out of my work truck.

One time it fell between in the crack in the driver seat and I had a hella of a time getting it out. One other time when I was squatting to repair something it cane out 3/4 of the way and was getting in my way and had to put it in my shirt pocket which felt like a brick. I tried putting it in the regular work pants pocket but that didn’t work out because couple of times I had to stop what I was doing to adjust because the 11 Pro ‘was getting in the way’.

Then lots of times I was texting with 1 hand and adjusting some gauges at the same time and wasn’t very comfortable.

The thing that was GREAT was battery life. At 2:00 when I was ready to leave work I still had plenty of battery. My iPhone 8 I would need to start plugging it into the charger in my work truck like an hour or longer before I left work.

So for me so far what’s great about the 11 Pro vs my 8 is battery life and nothing else.

Face ID is good but not a deal breaker. I don’t mind Touch ID and the sometimes it doesn’t work and have to enter my passcode.

Yea the camera is better on the 11 Pro vs my 8. How much better is it than the SE 2020? Don’t know. It is better than my 8 but I don’t see a significant difference for what I use a camera for.

Is the 6/7/8/SE 2020 outdated? Yea you can say that it is but it doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. The only thing that could be considered outdated is the bezels and having the bezels provides me with better navigation on the screen especially 1 handed use.

I watch lots of YouTube videos and the larger screen on the 11 Pro is very nice. However watching YouTube videos on my 8 wasn’t bad either. Yea not as good as the 11 Pro.

This decision isn’t about price because work pays for our phones and cell phone service.

So I have to ask myself what do I want in a smartphone? If I was sitting at a desk for work I would most likely like the 11 Pro. I would have a wireless charger on my desk and keep it on there most of the day anyway.

When I’m home I’m mostly on my iPad and sometimes my desktop.

When we go on vacation what model iPhone would I want? This is the kicker. I would want one that provides good battery life and takes decent pictures and is very comfortably pocketable. With my past 6/7/8 I always had a portable power bank with me when on vacation when we were touring. In this case if I needed to charge it doesn’t make it pocketable yet comfortably pocketable. It would be in my back pack charging. However it’s not like we vacation every month.

I really want to like the 11Pro and sort of forcing myself to like it better but so far I’m not feeling it.

A co worker got his SE 2020 recently at the AT&T store and got a screen protector and they installed it. Also has life time replacement at the AT&T stores. Anyway looks like it fits good.

Well I think you have your response; the SE is the best option for your needs I think. If you have where to plug it (because the battery is not great, is good, not great) then you have a fast pocket friendly device. The camera is good, better than the 8, not as good as the 11P; but I made really good photos with the SE.

The design is outdated, as you mention, that's the reason why maybe I will go with the 5,4 if it happens. The SE is great but it feels you have the same phone as 6 years ago.

I don't think the 5,4 is going to have a great battery life, maybe near the SE? we'll see.

I really want to like the 11Pro and sort of forcing myself to like it better but so far I’m not feeling it.

The phone has to fit your needs, no the other way around, if you are forcing yourself to like it, is not the right phone for you, IMO

There’s a huge thread about the SE screen protectors. It seems a lot of them have the “halo” around the edges due to the rounded edges of the SE screen. The AmFilm fits nicely with no halo, and it’s cheap on Amazon. The only thing I don’t love about it is it’s pretty thick, and you really feel the edges around the home button, but other than that, it’s pretty good for $7.

You may want to check out that thread though in case people have found others that work as well. That’s how I found out about that one.

I wanted the 11 pro to be my perfect phone as well, because, well, I think it’s the perfect size overall - not too oversized, but nice screen size. Of course, I was struggling a bit with OLED, so I was afraid to keep it past the return time and then wind up in a bind, but when my sister was here the other day, I was holding her pro alongside the regular 11 (before I sent it back too), and it was pretty much the same weight. Yeah the pro is more manageable because it’s not as big as the regular 11, but it still felt noticeably heavier than the SE2. Right now, I just want a lightweight, manageable phone. I’m tired of my phones being huge.

Camera-wise, you loose the ability to do portrait mode on pets/objects, but you can still do it on humans. Honestly, someone posted a pic on the SE pictures thread the other day where he focused on an object, and it looked like the photo was taken in portrait mode, so I think there are plenty of options with SE’s camera. You also lose the zoom and wide-angle lenses, but I have yet to take a photo with mine that didn’t look pretty darn good.

The battery life is definitely great on the pro, but the SE charges quickly. I’m always surprised that when I get out of my car after having it connected to my CarPlay, its 100%, and if I plug it in at home, it’ll be 100% within an hour (using an iPad charger). You can always grab a battery case for times when you need it to have the longer battery life, such as on a trip.

Obviously you have to do what works for you. I’ve been around this block a few times the last couple months, and I’m happy I landed on the SE. I’m enjoying it.

I was in AT&T today to pick up a new SIM for one of the grandkids’ iPads, and was looking at the Samsung phones. I’m not gonna lie - those screens with virtually no bezels look nice! IDK how handling them is, but they look pretty. I’m pretty much all in with Apple for the long haul, so I never really looked at those before today. Their watch looks pretty cool too - like that it’s round.
[automerge]1595474214[/automerge]

I went back and forth a bit, and my first 2 iPPs were 12.9s, but once I got my 11” iPP, I wasn’t really tempted to return it. I did try to find a use case for a mini 5, but in the end, I just couldn’t justify it, cute as it is.

You’re right though - not like it’ll last forever anyway (or even a year a lot of the time), but I do think all this insanity has made me really appreciate the idea of smaller phones again. I may not be able to use them forever because of my eyesight as I get older, but I think I’m gonna enjoy them while I can.

Honestly, I‘ve gotten 3 SEs in the last few months (two for my oldest 2 grandkids) for not much more than the cost of an 11 pro (one of them is gonna be $300 through AT&T with discounts, and the other 2 regular price from Apple, so for $100 extra bucks, I got THREE iPhones instead of one). And my grandkids think I’m the bomb, so that has to count for something, right? Lol
Dont get me wrong. I love my phone but man is it big! I can hold it fine and can type unless I have to reach say top left with it in my right hand or even reach over to the bottom left as its slightly out of thumb reach..

Pocketability is another challenge. Wearing skinny jeans comes with smaller pockets and that also means the phone is not placed well for sitting down for example..

Thanks! I’ll see what I can find in that thread. I figured there may be a thread about it already, but I didn’t do a search before I posted. I’ll look for it. And, the spigen screen protector I’m currently using, along with the halo effect, also is to thick and have to dig in for the home button which sucks.

Okay well now I need some input about this case situation. Do people usually keep multiple cases?

So I have my Loopy, and I’m pretty loyal to Loopy because gosh it just makes using the phone one-handed SO easy, but I got the Apple saddle brown leather today, and oh my is it nice!

Apple leather pros:

Looks nice
phone stays super slim
can use wireless charger without removing case

Loopy pros:

Ease of using phone
pretty nice looking, and not too much bulk

The leather is pretty slick right now, but I hear it’ll get better and more grippy as it picks up natural oils from my hand.

Honestly, I used the leather for a bit but then packaged it back up because I don’t want to damage it at all in case I decide not to keep it.

Is it really silly to keep two cases?

Not silly. I have red leather, blue leather, and saddle brown Apple leather cases. I am using the red one at the moment.

If you truly think you may return the Apple leather, then it is wise to keep it on a case. If you bought it from Apple, then use it until you make a firm decision. You can return a used case to Apple, so long as it is within the 14 day, if I am not mistaken. I have returned a used case before.

No, there’s nothing wrong with having multiple cases. I have 30+ cases for my 11 pro, but lately I’ve solely been using the Apple leather cases on the 11 pro and now the new se. Keep both cases and swap them as you feel the need to change it up.

I have six cases for my SE. One is the Apple saddle brown. I was using it on my 8 last year and loved it. I mostly stick to a spigen case. It keeps the phone feeling thin and light.

When at home, my iPhones are naked and they and I are quite happy with that. When I am going out, I have one Apple leather case for the iPhone 11 Pro and she wears it while out-and-about and once we're back home, off comes the case. The iPhone XS, which usually remains at home, as it's the one with the "home/old landline number" stays naked most of the time. Back in the day when she was my current iPhone, yes, the same thing happened: once leaving the house the iPhone XS was in a leather case, and that worked out quite nicely.

I do think cases are necessary if someone is out and about pulling their iPhone in-and-out of pockets or bags frequently, etc, needing to use the device in all kinds of situations, but now I am retired and am not out in the big bad world every day, only when I choose to go out for grocery shopping or whatever.

From Day 1 with the first-generation iPhone I thought the "screen protector" thingies were a waste of money and certainly the early versions looked horrible. They had that "orange peel" look. Really ugly! Current-day ones look better, I will say, than the ones back in 2007-2008-2009. Nonetheless, I don't feel a need to put such a thing on my iPhones and have managed to go through most generations of them since 2007 without and plan to continue doing just that. Ditto for iPads, too. Those screen protectors are undoubtedly helping someone make money but I suspect that they are not really worth that time for fitting one on and of course the expense to the consumer..... Whatever. We all make our choices!

I have 3 cases for my SE Apple leather case in midnight blue, iPhone 7 battery case in product red and a clear/ spigen ultra hybrid. I use the battery case every Monday (longest work day) and any other time I’m away from a charger for prolonged periods. Recently just swapped over to the Apple leather case. It is so much slimmer than the spigen case. I’m enjoying the size of it

I've always used Apple leather cases on my phones. They look and feel great and are light weight, but protective. I've dropped my phones face down on hard surfaces several times and while the cases have gotten scuffed the phones have not had any damage. The cases also don't collect any dust or lint inside and keep the phone free from scratches. Occasionally I've used more than one for a change of color.

I always use Spigen cases, some of them are really thin and light, and pretty cheap on Amazon (8/15 dls)

And I never used screen protectors, if it scratches, I don't care much, when the screen is on, the brightness hides everything.

I recently got a good deal on an IPhone 7 on Swappa. Cheaper than an iPod Touch and just planning on using it as an iPod Touch/backup phone. I have to say, I miss the lightness and touch ID. this is really a solid phone still. I will probably take it out with me when I go to the store so I can use Touch ID to pay since Face ID doesn’t work with masks. I may play around with it for a few days and test it out as my daily driver. It makes my 11 Pro feel like a brick when I use it. I am contemplating selling my 11 Pro if I end up liking this and just using it till the 12 comes out. I don’t know, but the size has me sold.

After being settled with the SE for a month or so now, I have to say, I’m liking it more and more. I really don’t know if I’m gonna change it.

I’m sure there will be some temptation in the fall, but my mindset has really changed since going to this phone, and I’m liking it! I have always gotten new phones every year, and always felt a need to have the latest and greatest (well, mostly - I’ve never done a pro, mainly because of the OLED, but also because I just can’t justify spending the money), but now I’m honestly just enjoying having a device that does what I need it to do, but is inexpensive (as far as phones go), lightweight and manageable. It’s been refreshing.

We shall see, Stacey. :p I predict you won’t last once the announcement is made and the fever pitch on MR runs high.

I still have my XS Max as my daily driver, but I opened an account with Verizon on yesterday before they changed their unlimited plans to the new ones today. I’ve been having issues with my data all day with T-Mobile so I’ve been using my SE 2020 outside of the house and it’s interesting the size difference between the SE 2020 and the XS Max. I haven’t really had any issues typing on it but I will admit it do make miss my XS Max. I just can’t believe that I used this size device before.
