Because you have the iPad...maybe just treat the SE as a phone and thats it..I know we all tend to grab our phones for surfing web etc in moments during the day , but it becomes a new mindset rather than previous habits. I just thin a lot of people are tired of lugging around a heavy large phone these days..not too mention the cost.

I put it here in this active thread. Little bit off topic, but the best renders of pro so far.

I had both the XR and XS. I was using the XS and decided to get the SE. I don’t regret at all.

I know they seem similar in size but the difference is pretty significant. The SE is a lot lighter, thinner and smaller overall. Just put them side by side, pick one up and then the other and bam.

You can’t see this just by looking at a photo. Holding the SE made my XS feel like a brick. (11 pro even more)

The thing you said about the case was the deciding factor for me. It just made my XS go from tolerable to a big no no.

They are both great phones, but if you care about weight and comfort, I’d think twice.

Ps: my final goal is the 5.4 model :)

Yeah I mean even though it is only an ounce+ in weight difference, it’s noticeable. The pro is still noticeably smaller/lighter than my 11 though, and even though I was wanting a smaller phone I used the 11 and every other big phone, with no real issues.

My main thing now is trying to use this pro enough to see if it’s really the OLED bothering me, because that’s gonna be a game changer going forward.

I have a mini 5 and that is how I operate.

I’d say keep the SE for now and grab a 12 on your size and flavor later.

The problem with this plan is that the OP thinks that iPhone 12 5.4” will be uncomfortable for her typing, while iPhone 12 6.1” is too big/heavy and there will be no 5.8” device any more, except the resellers, carriers, etc.

At home I do use my iPad a lot, even for texting - if I know I have a fairly long reply, I’ll use my iPad because typing is just so much easier on an actual keyboard. The thing is, sometimes when I sit in my chair, it’s just easier to hold something small, and I honestly still used my phone a lot even when I had the mini - same with using it in bed. I’m sure it’s just habit. I thought going to the SE might keep me from doing that, but it doesn’t - just makes it even easier to hold one handed in bed.

I appreciate everyone’s advice. I’m definitely gonna try the zoom to see if it helps with the typing issues on the SE. I’m gonna play with the pro some more to see if the OLED is bothering me (I need to figure this out either way, so I’ll know if I’ll ever be able to buy a new Apple device).

What I’m thinking right now is - if the OLED is NOT bothering me, I’ll return the pro, use the SE til the fall and re-evaluate when the 12s come out. If the OLED IS bothering me, I’ll return the pro, and have to make a decision regarding keeping a small phone long-term, or going back to the 11 until something changes with the OLED displays.

Yes - this is what I’ve been thinking for sure, but now I‘m thinking if the zoom thing works with the keyboard, that might be an option for me with the 5.4, IF I’m not having OLED issues. The other thing is that MAYBE the 6.1 phones will be lighter and/or slightly smaller overall than the 11. If they reduce bezels more, it could possibly make a size difference that would make that phone more comfortable.

Of course if the OLED is a problem, all 12s are out of the question.

However, I’m trying to use the 11 pro a bit more this evening to see how it does, and it’s starting to give me a headache.

The OLED issue concerns me because it’s pretty much gonna rule out most iPhones going forward. I mean I can handle that for a couple years since I can go back to an 11 for more screen size if I have to, but what am I gonna do long-term? I am NOT getting out of the Apple ecosystem.

I moved from iPhone 7 to 11 and started getting headaches with 11’s LCD screen too after about 2-3 days of use. What helped in my case was reducing the White Point (by 25%) and turning off Attention awareness features in FaceID. Once this was done the eye strain and headaches were gone. 🖐

Did you try going into settings > display > display zoom > and change the setting to zoom?

It will make your keyboard bigger and easier to type. No need to spend money on a bigger, heavier phone.

Not a single person suggested this feature. Rather supervised seeing how this place is filled with tech heads.

Can you do this on all the phones? I’m looking for that feature on the 11 pro just to try it (I had reset the SE and stuck it in the box to store for my granddaughter), and I don’t have the option to do that.

I’ve never had the issue on an LCD screen, and I had the 11, so I don’t think it was Face ID causing a problem, but what do the attention awareness features do? What would that affect as far as phone use?

Oh and how do you reduce white point? I have no clue what that is. I’ve never had a problem with the exception of the OLED screens;.

X, XS, 11Pro doesn’t have zoomed view - you can only change size of text

Attention Awareness - FaceID every few seconds scanning your face and checked if you looking at it.

Deleted.

Okay thanks. I’m gonna try doing it on my daughter’s 11, just so I can see the difference. I was wondering if it maybe wasn’t something that could be done on OLED.

Definitely turning that attention awareness off. I don’t really see a need for that either way.

Have not tried it, but I definitely will.

Well, this is what I’m concerned about. I had pretty much made up my mind I’d keep the 11 Pro. I don’t really think the SE is gonna be my optimum size for long term (the phone size is awesome, but I know I won’t want to stay with that small of a screen). However, I’m trying to use the 11 pro a bit more this evening to see how it does, and it’s starting to give me a headache.

Anyway, that’s for another thread. I’m gonna mess with the pro over the weekend, and make a decision by Monday. If the headaches keep up, the answer will be pretty clear.
I think we might be living the same life. :]

I’m not sure that’s a good thing for either of us. ;-p

It stinks because the more I use the pro, the more I really like it, but I don’t want to be stuck thinking I can handle it and a few weeks down the road have headaches that won’t quit.

I probably just need to box it up now and call it a day, but I really need to see if the OLED is affecting me.

Attention aware features give you an extra security layer, so other people can not unlock your phone with FaceID by pointing it to your face while you are asleep and also give you some extra perks, like automatically reducing the sound volume when the phone detects you are looking at it. To check if you are paying attention (looking at the phone) it needs to flash the FaceID camera at you frequently, which can be problematic for some.

Reducing the white point helps to bring down the overall screen glare, which can be an issue for some people too. You can change it in Accessibility settings, same area where you can set the Automatic Brightness on/off.

One more : no - attention awareness give not extra security - it is option above - require attention for faceID

Honestly, I really don’t want a phone with 5G either - IDK I’m sure it’s nothing, but I’ve read stuff that just makes me nervous.
I think you have some more reading to do. If you’re concerned with “5G causes Corona” then you’re misinformed.

Honestly OP, I think it would be wise to stick with the SE and return the 11 for a full refund. Save that money and apply it to the iPhone 12, so that way you’ll have an iPad and an iPhone with the same features and design language, on top of being brand new.

If the oled is effecting you, wouldn’t you know by now? Did it bother you on your xs max? I know you said you had one but can’t remember why you sent it back. I thought the people who complained about it noticed it right away? I had one guy tell me exactly how to detect it, and that once I saw it I couldn’t unsee it. Couldn’t see it.

Yes, my bad, I just assumed they both flash your face so turned them both off on my iPhone 11, which did it for me. 🖐

No - not Corona. I read about potential effects of 5G long before Corona.

And yeah I know that makes the most sense, but it’s the darn sizes that’ll be an issue - just not sure I’ll get one in a size I want. The 11 pro is really a great size. Of course, I guess I could always pick one of those up if I’m not a fan of any of the 12 series, IF I can live with OLED - still playing around with that.

Yes I had the XS Max, and it was affecting me by giving me headaches, but I sometimes think I might have rushed that and really only had the headaches because I used it a lot more than I typically do the evening I got it. I really haven’t used the pro a lot because a - I have no kind of case and I’m extremely paranoid about something happening to it, because b - if I return it, it needs to be perfect.

I do not see anywhere to reduce the white point. Is that what I need to be looking for? Or is it just brightness, or what?

ssledoux : If lowest brightness is an issue (still very bright) then "reduce white point" make possible go lower. And in medium brightness can reduce PWM...

But I don’t see anything that says that - I cannot figure out where to do it. I am clearly missing something.

I did want to mention that I was able to try to zoom today, and it definitely does make typing on the SE significantly better. Of course now that I’ve seen the display of the 11 pro up close and personal, I can’t unsee it.

Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Reduce White Point (at the bottom)

Okay so another thing I didn’t mention is that it is nice having a phone that uses all the same swiping gestures as my iPad. I was constantly trying to swipe on the SE2, not that I wouldn’t get used to it I’m sure (although I’ve had it a while), but I use my iPad daily as well, so it’s just become a habit to do certain gestures that are of course different on the SE.

I also just went from XS to SE. I am really missing the swipe up to home gesture. I keep bringing up the Control Center when trying to get to the home screen. I wish Apple would give us a choice on this.

Found it - thank you! I was just looking at display and not within accessibility

Yeah me too, although I have been back and forth between the phones like crazy, and it makes sense that on the Touch ID phone you’d swipe from the bottom. It’s actually pretty convenient since you have your thumb there from opening the phone. It’s just not what I’m used to and it’s taking me some time to relearn.
