Re: My phone bending in case thread

The apple supervisor just called back.

They are shipping out a brand new phone to me within 48 hours.

he said that a few iPhone 6 plus have had quality control issues and that these phones have had structural damaged from new. And that these phones will be prone to bending with little effort.

They are looking at it case by case basis and will replace if necessary.

He said that the issue is extremely small and that I was just one of the unlucky ones.

So there you go. I was not lying. My phone was already had a defect before I'd even opened the box.

He said that even the case could of been the culprit because of the defect. But until they receive the phone they won't know for certain.

So the bottom line is....

That the iPhone 6 plus will not bend under normal use. Unless you have a defected phone from new.

Amazing customer service from apple. Cant think of many companies that will go to all that effort for their customers.

For all the doomsday neigh sayer fan bois, go ahead and flame me all you like. I don't care. I got the out come that I wanted.

And for piece of mind, I will get apple care +, Just incase I drop it on my living room floor again

Keep us up to date please as we need to kwon the detail here. I will take your word for this issue as one high ranking person on page 2 thinks your lying. This problem could also be the supplier cutting corners, in china suppliers a know for making changed to U.S spec in order to make bigger profits or in this case maybe hurt Apple. We made ourselves vulnerable by moving jobs to a country that has no native technology.

Having read a few posts of yours, you have a issue with china ???

These so called bend phones are not part of a conspiracy within china to bring down apple.

The problem lies between Ives and engineering. The weak point is near the volume rockers .

Uhhhhh, no you haven't. Just sayin

Could be his last post ;)

I would try to not take everything here at macrumors as a personal slight against yourself. I just looked back through your posts to see if it was just today that was a grumpy day for you and I notice just from the last 20 pages of threads you've posted on it is always to attack others or be defensive about things others say. I'm not sure Apple is in need of a defender of the faith and has plenty of happy users who just go about their daily lives using the products. Try to relax a bit.

Wise words for sure.

It amazes me how worked up people can get in a forum.

And you had to open a new thread for this? You couldn't use the original thread?

Jeez…

The original thread got buried in so much immature sniping and arguing it was a disgrace as any legitimate feedback got buried.

OP I tried to respond to you there but within minutes of posting my response was buried in yet more back and forth sniping between other members.

All I wanted to say was that I keep my phone in a very sturdy rigid plastic wallet case by Incipio and I also nearly ended up with a bend like yours. I caught the phone flexing at the corner as I was trying to push it out of the case by pushing on it where the opening to the camera area is in the case. Fortunately I realized the danger of what I was doing and slowly pried the phone out a different way.

There is a problem in that many cases don't allow for any easy way to remove the phones and weak spots near the volume rockers are the only places where case openings are cut, allowing slight access to remove the phone.

(Is this forum always so contentious or is it this way because we're in the aftermath of a new product launch? )

All forums can be like this from time to time. However, add in the fact that you are getting a bunch of "My phone bent and I did nothing to it" posts, and people tend to be a little tired of it after awhile.
Are some of the issues legitimate? Possibly, but at this point, you'll never be able to figure them out based on the signal to noise ratio. Too many trolls coming in complaining that their nonexistent iPhones have bent, simply for the reaction.

Why would Apple admit the defect publicly? It serves no purpose, and could only hurt bottom line.

Isnt it possible that there is a small batch of defective phones? I mean everyone here stresses that there are over 10 million 6's out there. Just possibly a small batch slipped thru QC. No one perfect. Remember these phone like most things today are made in China. Apple, like many other companies use China because its far cheaper than making in the USA. What a shame.

The way some people defend Apple here is crazy. They make mistakes too. It is great customer service to replace these phones. If it is a QC problem, they SHOULD replace them.

Apple doesnt care about you. They care about your wallet. Plain and simple. Having great customer service is awesome, but doesnt mean they really care about you. ITS A BUSINESS, $$$ is everything for a business.

That's true and I don't care as long as their customer service is great. They are not exactly meant to be mother Teresa. It doesn't work like that on any business.

Update, apple admit to defect!

They replaced it to shut you up, then made up a cool story as to why.. Happens all the time.

I dont think it would have been too hard for Tim to call Ive and Schiller into a boardroom and crack a few iP6+ open once the rumors were out.

I am sure they saw it wasnt that difficult to bend, its not that force was required, one has to take into consideration that these phones will be in hands of people for 2 years - they are likelier to bend as these phones get older with longer usage.

I hope they add reinforcements to the new batches and allow early adaptors to bring in their old ones and receive the "updated" models. Well thats what I am hoping for with my Plus.

Ooh I'm quite sure they're bending phones like crazy around there now.

Either would I. Customer service is king in the business world, well after making money:)

Im not saying the OP is lying or not. Doesnt affect me.

There will be lots of people here feeling foolish if he is right and Apple admits to the defect publicly.

Havent seen the "there is no large iPhone" guy around here lately:eek:

OP: Congratulations

lol I am following the thread over here.

I bet some phones went out without the metal (steal/tungsten) bar along the side, along the volume rocker. It seems in the mad rush, it would be logical that workers were told, "Just put it together, we will fix it later." But they didn't. And now this whole mess happened.

Generally this would not have been a problem, but for the fact they had to make 10 million phones in two months, and some floor supervisor wanted to receive his bonus check.

There are more bent iphones out there than you think. Someone skimming on production line is as true as there are 9 bent iphones overall. It's not an underground factory, and they know that low quality product means mone lose and possible class action law suit. What explains it is the way they test the phones trying to bend them in the middle. Anyway, apple is trying to cover things up. Seeing so many sites and even tmobile ceo covering apple asses and now changing phones, means somebody scewed up big time.
