It’s good to hear this, though sadly a little too late for me as I intend to buy a phone by October this year, 2018 is too long to wait.

Not happy with the iPhone 7 internals being used though, as the original SE used the latest SOC and camera at the time of its release, that’s what made it so good. It’s a shame that the little iPhone has to also simultaneously be the affordable iPhone which misses out on the latest specifications. SE actually made very few compromises on the internal specifications (the low resolution front facing camera and lack of 3D Touch being the only obvious downgrades).

If all what the next SE gets will be updated CPU (A10 or A11), better front camera (1.2MP > 5MP) and maybe new shape - i would stick with the correct SE.

I love my iPhone SE, what i don't like is the way Apple seem to think the SE is for people on a budget and strip its spec a little. I get the SE because they changed the iPhone into a stupidly oversized thing that even with my massive hands is awkward to use 1 handed and is to bulky in pockets. So because of this i was penalised by not being allowed features like 3D touch and only recently had a 128GB option.

If they want to play the budget game, keep the SE design, spec bump it and release it as an iPhone Classic. Then with every new iPhone like the 8 have 3 sizes available so those who don't want to have a tablet as a phone can still get the latest model.

Me too. Smaller screen size is a feature!

I used the iPhone 6 for half a year, immediately after it was released, and could never get used to its size. It was not easily usable with one hand (and I have big hands!), and it is just too big to pocket comfortably. Then I tried a friend's iPhone 5s for a few seconds and it felt like coming home. :) Using an SE now.

I would prefer that they made a new SE with features on par with the other sizes (as far as possible; there is obviously more space to work with on the larger models).

Just keep the existing form factor (nice square edges that are easy to hold onto) and NO 3D touch and I'll be all over it. I'll pay any price.

Agree 100%. I consider the iPhone SE the flagship in terms of design, size, and usability. It should be the most expensive iPhone with the best tech. The thin, light, difficult to hold, oversized 7 and 7 Plus should be the cheap, low end.

Sometimes, I'd love to have a 7 Plus - for the camera (and only for that).
But then it would kill me to actually carry it around with me. I don't have a man-bag.

Apple supplier Wistron is preparing to expand its India-based iPhone manufacturing, with production geared towards the next-generation iPhone SE, according to local sources (via Focus Taiwan). Apple is hoping to build its share of the Indian smartphone market by giving Wistron the majority of the orders for the new iPhone SE, which is said to ship in the first quarter of 2018.

Wistron was targeted as a supplier for the new iPhone SE due to its existing status as a manufacturer for the current iPhone SE, which it officially began assembling in India in May at a plant in Bangalore. That same plant will be the location of assembly for the new iPhone SE as well, and the sources made an unlikely claim that Wistron will target India first when it begins shipping the device to market, and then expand the launch worldwide. Within India, the device will be aimed at customers looking for a cheaper and smaller device.

The supplier is even looking into expanding its production through talks with the local government.
Recently, a questionable rumor pointed towards a potential late-August introduction of the new iPhone SE. A debut early next year is more likely since we've already entered August and have yet to hear any other rumors corroborating such an event so close to the expected "iPhone 8" keynote in September. Otherwise, there's been exactly one other rumor this year regarding a next-generation iPhone SE, related to the smartphone's potential inclusion of a strengthened Ion-X glass display.

However, even that rumor was never clear in regards to the device in the image of the leak, which could also have been the upcoming "iPhone 7s." If it was a new model of the iPhone SE, users can expect the small-screen iPhone to move away from the design of the iPhone 5s and instead include a form factor that matches it with the iPhone 7 family, alongside the usual internal upgrades.

Indian tech site Tekz24 recently reported that internals similar to the iPhone 7 are expected for the next-generation iPhone SE, although the details should be taken with the usual grain of salt due to the sketchy source. The report said the new iPhone SE will have an A10 chip, 2GB RAM, storage capacities in 32GB and 128GB (similar to current iPhone SE models), a 12MP rear camera and 5MP front camera, and a 1700 mAh battery (slightly above current models' ~1640 mAh). The device is also said to include "slightly thinner side bezels," mirroring the lessened bezels on the iPhone 7.

[doublepost=1505270496][/doublepost]The iPhone SE 2 would definitely be a winner and sell extremely well. Many people , family friends all loved the size and simplicity of the SE , myself included. Hopefully this will be a reality next year :)

They upgrade the internals and screen just bit while keeping that price point, headphone jack and design - I am there.
SE has perfect design and shape. Just make it more powerful with better non protruding camera with same shape as I hate these new slippery rounded ugly huge phones and cut some bezel from top and bottom. The trend will soon be to make things smaller believe me. BTW, it looks so ugly when people have a brick in their pockets or when they hold it like its the 80s.
[doublepost=1505791199][/doublepost]forgot to add that I couldn't care less for useless so-called 3d touch or stupid emojis and what not.

I completely agree. The trend will just bounce back to going small.

I know of a few people that would gladly upgrade from their SE to a newer one. A friend of mine just bought a new SE when her old one got eliminated by a drop.

Till they ready to release the 'Mini X', they should refresh the internals of the SE while keeping the size-shape-weight as it his, and they got a winner.

Tried an X in the store. Impressive. But Reachability is pain to get to work.
I'd rather yell at Siri to pull the screen down than trying to find the right spot to apply the gesture...

What makes 3D touch essential, BTW?

And I'd pay 800 CHF more for the large X compared to the 32GB SE (which would probably also do). On contract.
That's quite a lot of money.

I hope these rumours are true. I have SE now and would love to upgrade to the updated SE with the latest specs. Fingers crossed.

had the X since release - i can go without 3d touch and face recognition. i do want 3GB ram on my next phone.

the X is huge and heavy! and the face unlock is slow! i think i unlock my phone more than the average

[doublepost=1511562388][/doublepost]I was one of the iPhone 5s-5SE lifers. But as someone with a degree in photography, I LOVE the idea of a phone that size having the portrait, macro and telephoto options that the 7 and 8 plus and the X have. I had recently switched carriers due to money constraints but unfortunately the carrier I had I couldn’t switch my iPhone SE that I had. I would have had to buy a new one. And to me that seemed crazy, as much as I stuck with the 5’s because of their smaller size. I’m a woman that doesn’t carry a purse like most and feel more comfortable having my phone in my pocket to begin with so I don’t miss calls or texts. But when switching carriers I could not pay for a phone I already have. So I went for the 7 like an idiot (did not know about the no 3.5 jack and my car is a 2010 so, no Bluetooth). So I had to wait over a month for Apple to get the adapter in stock where you could connect the auxiliary input and charge my phone. Til then it was just charge and listen to music from the phone itself for over a month. Horrible. And as I said before I have a degree in photography and love how the iPhone 8+ and X have all the options for your photos, for those of us into photography I think it would be so great if they could get those features in a phone that size. Just my opinion.

Ah, the earlier rumor about this. Nice!

Same price, headphone jack, updated internals and an improved screen - hello! :)

If it has the same 12mp camera, thats a weak upgrade, if it has the 8+ or even the 7+ camera with optical stabilization it might be quite nice.

I agree totally. I didn’t buy the SE because it was a budget phone. I bought it because it was the only phone that was small enough to put in my pocket and that I could use 1 handed. I wish they would have the SE but with latest specs and features.
