Apple's cleanest roadmap to simplicity again in the portable Mac line:

12-inch MacBook starting at $1,099
13-inch MacBook Pro starting at $1,299
15-inch MacBook Pro starting at $1,799

RIP MacBook Air and its non-Retina display. Nice knowing ya. If you want an Apple "computer" starting below $1,000 you can get an iPad Pro in either 9.7-inch or 12.9-inch screen sizes. Done and done. Clean, simple, Jobs-approved.

maybe the 13" and 15" MBAs are actually 13" and 15" rMBs they just got the name wrong.

Or maybe Apple is adding the air moniker to the 13" 15" rMB models

Ive doing his best interpretation of Jobs during first iPhone announcement:

“A Mac, a Thin, a Ner. A Mac, a Thin, a Ner. A Mac, a Thin — are you getting it? These are not three separate devices. This is one device! And we’re calling it iThin.”

Eh? MacBook Air? Really?

As much as I'd love this to be true - and I'm having to replace the screen assembly on my current one - I can't see it happening. :(

Of course if it did happen they'd find a way of making it a slightly larger MacBook with that effin' keyboard  and ruin the best laptop Apple ever built.

Ditto! What a waste of time. A rumor referring to an earlier rumor which may or may not be from same source about something which may not even exist. Yeah I'm sitting on edge of my seat now!
Yeah it says shipping a new macbook air then it later says it is going to be discontinued.. Basically a convoluted rumor of 4 different rumors in 1 rumor.

Yo dawg, I heard you like mac rumors, so we put four different mac rumors in this rumor so you can browse macrumors reading about mac rumors.

Apple's product lineups don't make sense anymore. What happened the Jobsian idea of narrowing the focus to a couple products and doing them exceptionally well?

Apple is a much larger company now - in no small part because they have expanded their product line to appeal to more types of customers.

I think it makes much more sense if the Macbook takes over in the ultraportable category (maybe introduce a 14" model), the Air is phased out, and the Pro carry on as the powerful big brother (albeit in a refreshed package).

This is likely the plan - 12" MacBook anchoring the bottom, the 13" MacBook Pro in the middle and the 15" MacBook Pro at the top.

I could see Apple dropping the 11" Air and dropping the price of the 13" Air to $999 and then next year phasing it out for the above line-up.

If I had to guess, from everything I've heard, Apple's gotten the form factor of the Pro down to a small enough point that they're going to just ditch the Air completely and merge the two. If you want something REALLY tiny, you get a Macbook, and if you want something with actual computing power, you get a Macbook Pro.

If they pull that off, it'll be the best of both worlds--very small, very light, very portable, very powerful. If so, shutupandtakemymoney.gif, but... I worry that it'll be a bunch of ompromises. Not particularly fast, not particularly small.

They already had that with the macbook pros (power) and the macbook airs (portability). What's going to happen now is the complete neutering of the macbook pro line in the pursuit of even more thinness.

So what will distinguish the "Air" from the MacBook from the MacBook Pro? It sounds like they are all competing for the same ultraportable niche. Apple should just get it over and eliminate the pro line.

I think it's in apples best interest to release them at the WWDC because of how much negative press Apple has been getting for not releasing new products fast enough.

Internet forum nerd rage that no one in the real world listens to =/= negative press

I don't get Apple keeping the MacBook Air name. Just call it a macbook. I mean the 12" macbook is already as thin as an air, and the rumored MacBook pros will be thinner too. So keeping the "Air" moniker doesn't make sense anymore. And for Gods sake, at least give the air a retina screen already!

Apples problem: people interested in a MBP are waiting for that complete refresh that's been rumored for the past 6+ months. And people interested in a MBA have heard by now that it's on the way out, and are waiting for a 14" MB.

There is NO word on Retina in this summary/article. What would be the point to release an updated non-retina MBA now? The only reason would be to annoy customers/us.

I simply do not want a 12" retina. It is too small - for me at least - and from reading forums around many feel 13" is a sweet spot. With smaller bezel and smaller footprint i would probably get a 15" MacBook-form factor laptop. But I do not want/need the Pro/weight. I think many with me have this need.

Get rid of wwdc. It is no longer "wow" event. If Apple brings up another oswatch update or another watch bands during this event, I would call wwdc world wide distasteful conference. I would like to see some hardware leaks. Next event is iPhone and probably another iPad or Apple Watch. Next year is probably iPad if they announce Apple Watch this year. And back to wwdc with software. And next year of sept is back to iPhone.

Wth? Bring out those macs!

because WWDC is a marketing event for consumers?

you are not the audience for WWDC and as such Apple (one would hope) doesn't take much stock in your opinion of what it should or should not be.
