I fail to understand why anyone who doesn't need an unlock would then use this unlock and then complain about it?

You are either using att and don't need to unlock or you don't. There should be no discussion about visual voicemail here. Don't like the unlock? Then don't use the unlock.

Just because ppl are on AT&T doesn't mean they don't need the unlock.
I use AT&T when I'm in the US, and I prefer to use the same phone when I travel overseas. Jb and unlock allows me to keep using my own phone on an international carrier's cheaper prepaid sim, vs letting AT&T rape me with their international roaming charges.

Exactly my reason for wanting an unlock. But you have to remember. The average American does not travel internationally. Hell, less than 25% of us even have a passport. That's why some don't get it.

To all the posters that complain about why people install this Ultrasn0w whose doesn't need an unlock. Read this to understand it better before you guys start complaining.
From the Dev Team.

"This isn’t a new unlock! It’s to allow those who are already unlocked to use FW 4.3.1. It also fixes the signal bar issue for those who aren’t using the unlock but retain an older baseband intentionally."

I'm on 4.3.1 with the 01.59.00 baseband and I left myself two voicemails with ultrasn0w installed and neither one of them popped up. I uninstalled ultrasn0w and when I rebooted or resprung (can't remember which one it did), the voicemails popped right up.

Can someone else on at&t with 4.3.1 and 01.59.00 please test out leaving yourself a voicemail with ultrasn0w installed and let me know if your voicemail pops up?

I can confirm that visual voicemail does not work! Neither does MMS for me. I jumped the gun last night when I saw the "fix" had been released for the signal bar issue and went ahead and upgraded from 4.0 to 4.3.1. Well, guess I'm about to head back to 4.0!

I can live without visual voicemail, but I am not getting any type of notification that I have a voicemail. Is it the same for everyone else??

What version of ultrasn0w did you run? I ran 1.2.1 and it fixed my signal bar issue. I have an iPhone 4, 02.10.04 baseband with 4.3.1 firmware.

1.2.1 iphone 4, 4.3.1 1.59.00 BB

EDIT: It fixed the signal bar issue, but no VV or MMS

Someone posted there is version 1.3.1 for 1.59.00 baseband but I don't see it on Cydia. I'm waiting to hear which is the correct version.

I havent heard that, hope its true though! I can tell you that I just removed ultrasn0w and on respring all the MMS and voicemails instantly came through!

My VVM seems to work okay but MMS broke... This sucks.

What baseband? I'm 4.3.1 with 02.10.04 baseband. I just tested sending myself a MMS and left myself a voicemail and both worked.

01.59.00 - I would think people with higher baseband versions won't have problems since ultrasn0w skips the unlocking step on those phones.

I ran it for the 1 bar fix.

I know. I'm saying it's probably only the 01.59.00 people that'll have problems with VVM and MMS

Ok I think I missed something here.

Im on 4.2.1 with 1.59.00 baseband so if I upgrade to 4.3.1 and keep my 1.59.00 baseband, am I going to have all these problems (no vvm, mms, one bar)?

Also I heard they (Musclenerd) had his hack working for 3.10 baseband is that not true? I'm still wondering why they haven't cracked anyone of the new basebands even though they say their exploits can do it.

So you can only unlock at the moment if you have 1.59 or lower baseband?

You are either using att and don't need to unlock or you don't. There should be no discussion about visual voicemail here. Don't like the unlock? Then don't use the unlock.

Thanks for your valuable input again:rolleyes:
I see you fail to understand alot of things....

On the iphone 4 the 1.59.00 is the only baseband that can be unlocked. If you update to 4.3.1 with the 1.59.00 BB you will have your VV and MMS, but it usually just shows one bar of service(strictly cosmetic) if you run ultrasn0w to fix the signal bar issue, you will possibly lose your VV and MMS, but fix the signal bar issue. For me I just removed ultrasn0w and have my VV and MMS back but just one bar of signal. I'll go for a cosmetic issue anyday over losing my VV and MMS!

Instead of coming in here and criticizing those of us who are having multiple problems with this new version of ultrasn0w, it would help if you understood the issues at hand. Discussion of VVM is certainly relevant here since this new version of ultrasn0w is causing a problem with VVM.

I'm on at&t and yes, I don't need the unlock; however, I do need to fix the issue I'm having where my signal strength is only at one bar. Installing this new version of ultrasn0w is supposed to fix that but unfortunately it also introduces new problems (no VVM and no MMS). That's a pretty big issue so it looks like we have to choose which is more important to us. For me, I'd rather have my VVM and MMS than having my signal strength displayed correctly. Hopefully the dev team can release some type of fix that works for those of us on 4.3.1 and 01.59.00 but don't necessarily need the unlock. It's not quite as easy as "Don't like the unlock? Then don't use the unlock."

Understand now?

Same problem here on both of my iPhone 4 32GB's with the 1.59.00 baseband. I upgraded to 4.3.1 and had the one signal bar problem. I then installed the new Ultrasn0w and still had VVM but I lost my MMS. I also had the mute switch issue. I went back to 4.2.1 until these problems could be sorted out.

EDIT: Spoke too soon. I do have the VVM problem too.

Soooo this means that people who are on AT&T and chose to preserve their baseband for resale value or whatever the case may be, are stuck with either broken signal bar display or chances of broken MMS/VV?

EDIT: yeah ok I answered my own question. Hope there's a fix soon.

Just wanted to put another plug out for this sweet fix to the BB problems associated with older BB's on 4.3.1. I installed it just now, then had to do a restart to get my phone to stop saying No Service.

Edit: I have the VVM issue too...I'll see about the MMS

Well, like many others I was having the no VV or MMS so earlier I had removed ultrasn0w and the test VV and MMS I had sent came through. Just before I downgraded back to 4.0 I decided to install ultrasn0w again just to check. I powered the iPhone 4 off and back on after installing and sent a few MMS and left a few voicemails and everything seems to be working fine this time. If anything comes up again, I'll post back!

Confirming here also, 1.59.00 baseband and VVM and MMS don't work, as soon as ultrasn0w is gone, they both work again...

EDIT: Ok, so I tried what Shanewilliams above said, and reinstalled ultrasn0w, powered off and back on, and both VVM and MMS are working so far...

Maybe a silent update? I definitely powered off and back on the first time I installed as the instructions state...I'll keep an eye on it, maybe it's a time problem or after further reboots?

01.59.00 iPhone 4 here with new Ultrasn0w. I don't use MMS, but my VVM is working just fine.

For reference, though, I had the Ultrasn0w fixer installed:

http://geniusgeeks.com/2011/04/ultrasn0w-fixer-ios-431-unlock-iphone-43gs-baseband-released/

I had to install that after Ultrasn0w because I literally had NO signal (not just the bars problem people have).

So before installing this new Ultrasn0w version I removed the fixer, but I had set up the VVM before installing the new Ultrasn0w. Not sure if that had anything to do with it.

In any case, VVM does work for some of us, apparently.

*EDIT*

I find that my Bluetooth now works correctly. Not sure why Ultrasn0w would have fixed that, but prior to removing the Ultrasn0w fixer and installing this new Ultrasn0w version, my BT symbol would remain grey even with a device connected, and I no longer got a battery symbol in the top bar with my Jabra connected. With this new Ultrasn0w, my icon turns white, and I get the battery logo again. Bizarre!

I tried powering off and back on and vvm still isn't working for me (AT&T, 4.3.1 and 01.59.00). Not sure why it's working for you and not for me.
