Filed my chargeback about a week ago. It is still being "investigated" but the credit card company provisionally returns your money basically as soon as you file the dispute.
What I wasn't expecting was just how much
relief I felt to actually start the chargeback and see the money getting returned to me. Between public updates on the website and (sparse) direct correspondence with Gilles, I believe at least three different expected shipping dates were claimed, and all this was
after the production issues were disclosed. I was following this thread for a while now and there are just too many direct reports of paying customers getting ignored to be comfortable with this anymore.
For those of you that still have orders in with Polysoft, you should know that they have been continuing to accept small order batches periodically, even as they struggle to fulfill their existing order book. I know this for a fact because, part of how I have been tracking the shipping issues was to stay subscribed for stock updates on several of the drive kit SKUs while my order was pending. On 5 October I received stock updates for M4 and M3 drive kits and sure enough, there they were "available" for order, even stating "in stock" and not something like "shipping on X date" on the product page if you can believe that!
I'm not a lawyer but I can't see how the in stock claim was anything less than false advertising, and it is a very bad sign in my book. It makes me wonder if Polysoft is, whether intentionally or unintentionally, front loading capital by taking in the full purchase amount during preorder to cover unstated deficiencies in the process or business. Poor communication and constantly slipping deadlines do not inspire confidence at all. If you keep taking orders where you're charging the full amount instead of a small order reservation fee, you can probably paper over your problems and string customers along for quite some time, at least until enough people claw back their money.
Maybe the rest of the orders really are just days away this time, but I'm not going to gamble my own money to find out. I know now from the stock updates that you can't trust an "in stock" claim from Polysoft either, so it's not like I can come back and order from them with confidence at a later date even if they appear to get everything sorted out.
One last note (only applies if you are a US customer.) You should know that Polysoft ships UPS for these orders, and UPS in particular has started destroying some packages tied up in customs because of all the tariff nonsense. Other shippers haven't reported an increase in abandoned or destroyed packages, so this is a UPS problem.
Packages are getting destroyed, and customers are getting confused.
