Nope, and by the time, you should know that when it's written 05/10, it's more or less a wish from polysoft, but they do as they can; so if it's delivered before xmas it will be a good start !

It would be nice if they would communicate about it. I have no issues for delays, but they are just not replying to anything you ask from them.

Why not use businesses that do have good customer support? There's been a number of of members in this thread that used Ali Express, and those vendors were engaging, and responded to queries.

If a company took my money (or just took my order) and ghosted me, I'd be upset and I'd be looking to cancel the order and/or dispute the charge

When did place your order with polysoft?

As for aliexpress
This post has the details, and @Surenmunoo has a number of posts in this thread about his experiences (all positive).

Link to aliexpress

Member @akatsuki also bought from them and you can see his experience in this post

I went the Aliexpressroute and until now it works very good (if you do not understand chinese you may have to ask the seller which is primary and secondary).

Hi, Prices on ALiExpress have gone up from when I got mine but its fast shipping and no issues with the SSD cards. The come with a cheap tool kit but it works and its marked which is primary and secondary. I do a lot of video file transfers and have had no issues with them at all. I got the 8TB for the M4 Studio

Did anyone got a response from them lately? I am waiting for my 8TB order M3 Ultra and it should have been shipped according to their plan, but there is total silence about my order. Mailed them, no response what so ever. So i am kinda spooked haha
I reached out to Gilles regarding my order/refund 3 weeks ago and have not received a response.

I am seeing price increase as well over in some of the original Taobao seller shops. Eg. 8TB for M1 went from 3788 to 4200 RMB.

This must have to do with recent global NAND shortage. This is pushing me to consider buying a 8TB right now, there is still one or two shops selling at the old price, will probably not be the case next time I check.

No confusion. I knew exactly what I was talking about as did you. NAND can refer to one chip or multiples on a single card. People have been using the terms interchangeable for a decade.

It was nice of you to post the breakdown on the various Studio configurations. I'd not seen that in print before.
While we are on the topic of number of daughter cards, I just realize some peculiar oddity:
Apple claims their M1 gen uses 2 cards for 1TB onwards, which is probably true when out of their factory.
But I am also seeing SSD sellers offering only one card config for both 1TB and 2TB for M1, so the exact same distribution for M2 and M4/3 offerings.
Which I thought was not possible, because in the very beginning I have read / heard from technicians who were attempting the initial NAND solderings that you have to follow what Apple does out of factory, to avoid firmware mismatch / checking. Turns out this is not a limit anymore or it was a false flag.

2TB and below have always been one blade and the 4TB / 8TB two blades.

What have changed over the generations (notable the M2) was the amount of NAND chips used for the smaller sizes. M1 started with four 128GB NANDs and M2 moved to just two 256GB NANDs for the 512GB standard configuration.

Some teardowns confirmed this for the early M1 Studio 1TBs.

Certainly true from the M2 on and it wouldn't surprise me if later M1 Studios were the same.

Look at all the changes that were made in the iMac Pro, some announced and others just happened. The old "We reserve the right to make changes without notice..."

This was especially true for the M1 Pro M1 Max MacBook Pros. If I recall correctly, many of the initial batches came with odd number of NANDs soldered to the board, it was quite common to see 5 NANDs occupying the 8 NAND spots on 1TB M1 Max teardowns. So it means it was possible to mix 256 and 128GB modules on the same machine.

But after a while, probably has to do with supply chain stablizing, Apple went back to standardizing to only doing 2 or 4 or 8 chips (2 only on the M2 gen base spec configs). I think starting from the M3 gen MBP, the M3 Pro board even only has 4 NAND spots, it took the M3 Max models to have a board that all 8 spots with solder joints and the required capacitors.

Back on the topic for Mac Studio cards, not requiring to use 2 cards is a meaningful difference, it means less cost in the extra card, also less work and chance for failure in soldering less number of NANDs. The 2TB cards look pretty affordable compared to the 4TB and 8TB cards as a result.

Ok, then it is time to call my creditcard company to return my money. Thanks
They charged your card? I thought the law states that only when the product is shipping can the card be charged. Should be a simple chargeback from your credit card company - hopefully its not a headache.

I have to join this thread because I’m one of the people who ordered from Polysoft. Sorry, but when @gilles_polysoft says the pre-order will be delivered on 05/10 and your team can’t handle it, why are you still taking orders?

I’ve been waiting for weeks without any reply. Honestly, I am glad i found this post because i was about to file a criminal complaint as i thought i had been scammed.

I ordered for business use, and we actually need another 8 TB order. We would place it, but right now we’re thinking of switching to AliExpress instead. I chose a European company because I expected a more professional experience. I do understand personal and family issues can happen, but please communicate with your customers. I’ve spoken with several others in different platforms who said they’ve been waiting up to five months without receiving either their product or a refund.

Please update the information on your website for other users. Also, could anyone share their experience with ordering from AliExpress? These 1000€ kits are not cheap I currently need two kits and possibly another three in the future.

Thanks

@terratoss lf you scroll up the posts you will find our comments and links about the SSD from ALiExpress. I have the 8TB with no issues for almost a month now.
ll check it when I get back home. I’ve messaged Polysoft and asked them to reply within the next 10 business days.... otherwise, I’ll file a chargeback and report them. It’s really frustrating right now, and I’m not the only one dealing with this.

What are you guys doing with the original SSD? Is it possible to place it in the secondary slot to use for data etc?

I believe that I asked that and if I remember correctly, the answer was it wont work, Apple made sure to screw us nicely and to use both slots, you need drives of the same size on each slot.

But anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.

This was briefly discussed in the first few pages of this thread, but the focus was on the fact that the pair of cards are labelled 00 and 01 where they are discrete and somewhat differently configured. In the context of using the original single card (which is a 00), you’d need the second card being a 01 that matches the capacity of the 00 in theory. I am sure this has been attempted, but in practice since this limits your total capacity to only being double of what you bought from Apple, so it is very impractical or not worthy of doing.

Another consideration is you may want a vanilla card untouched as a fallback, in case the 3rd party cards or your swap job screws it up. Leaving the vanilla card with an existing macOS install (I think) means you can just pop it back in the Studio and it will boot.
