And as he said, he remove the availability ...
Yes, and he took three days to do it after being made fully aware of the problem, during which time more "in stock" kits were sold. I am certain I saw at least one M3 8TB kit get sold over the weekend between when he acknowledged the problem and when it was fixed. Just one more disgruntled customer in the making, eh?

He's still not responding to customers/refunding orders, as he stated he was.

He has not been able to deliver - even after 5 months of delays and he will not even respond to my requests for refund via (phone, email, order page msg, WhatsApp.)
Just in case you missed it from earlier in the thread, there is a regulator in France where you can file a dispute against the company if they are not refunding you. This would be separate from any recourse you may have with your credit card company (chargeback) or bank.

To me, this looks like a complete scam! If I treated my customers this way, I wouldn't have gotten very far. When there are problems or delays, the first thing anyone should do is inform their customers/customers. So, they're either not doing this because they're either counting on naive buyers or they're completely ignorant! Either way, this reeks of a massive scam! It's already November 4th, and there's no information on the website regarding shipping! I recommend everyone don't wait and do everything they can to get their money back. This is unacceptable!

Wouldn't be surprised if someone were to actually do that now. Seeing how some of the unshipped orders seem to stem from WAY earlier this year I'm surprised there's no mention of a report yet.

Hi Gilles,

I wish I had read this post before ordering (and receiving) my Mac Studio M4 Max — 128 GB RAM but only 512 GB of internal storage.

One of the reasons I bought the 8 TB Mac Studio drive upgrade was because your website showed “40 units available.”
A few days later, it showed 34 units, so I assumed the stock was moving and that I’d receive mine soon.

Let me share what I found disappointing in how the situation has been handled:
1. I first sent an email asking whether the product was in stock — no reply.
2. At that time, I don’t remember seeing any “units available” indicator on the site, which is why I asked in the first place.
3. After placing my order and receiving payment confirmation, I still haven’t received any updates or estimated delivery date.

I understand there have been some difficulties with the supplier and internal issues, but customers simply need clear communication and a delivery timeframe.
For now, I’m using external drives as a temporary solution, but it’s far from ideal for my setup.

Since I’ve received no update or shipping confirmation, I’m now requesting a full refund.

Best regards,

I guess most people are a couple of months ahead of where I am in terms of reaction. Personally, I’m still waiting on my mid-September order, which by all estimates should have been shipped about a month ago.

The last update I received said to wait another 15 days — so for now, I’m still giving it that time before deciding on any next steps.

Totally agree with you though: the biggest issue here isn’t even the delay — it’s the lack of clear, proactive communication. A realistic delivery estimate or even a simple “your order is still queued, we haven’t forgotten you” message would go a long way in keeping people calm.

Like you, I appreciate the craftsmanship and quality Polysoft promises — but I do hope we get an honest, transparent update very soon.

I completed the report. I was willing to give him time in the first several weeks after ordering in June but after additional months of him ignoring my requests for an update/refund, reporting him seems more than reasonable.

True — though I also wonder how many orders have actually been shipped without people coming back here to post about it. That said, there have clearly been some serious misses. I totally understand the frustration — waiting 5 months with little or vague communication is hard to justify.

I’m still convinced Gilles is working hard behind the scenes — I remember the issues mentioned with the controller board, soldering, and needing to reprogram chips. Maybe he had to change plans along the way, and a short message explaining that would’ve eased a lot of the concern, at least in my case.

Let’s hope things improve — especially the communication side. That alone would already make a huge difference.

Yes... I'm honestly starting to look for other manufacturers and may ask a refund in a few days.

What do some people here think of this one ? there is one comment saying the Mac M4 8 tb works perfectly.

There are many people in this thread that brought it with no problem, and reported as working fine.

Yes so I have a solution. Waiting a few days for a realistic timeframe coming from @gilles_polysoft , and keep my order. Or asking for a refund and order on aliexpress..

EDIT : finally decided to ask for a refund. The aliexpresso order arrives on 22 th November and I'm really afraid my PS order won't arrive before 2026. Sure it's more expensive, but better to have something...

Thank you everyone and good luck (my last post here)

I bought the 8TB for M4 from this store and it works perfectly. Using it for over 2 months or so and no issues.

Over on the front page it is reported that M5 Ultra is already coming in 2026, probably as soon as WWDC. So our Mac Studios are having shorter shelf life than the M2 generation, back to the M1 gen pace of 1.25 years. What immediately goes through my head is how some unlucky guy waited 5 months for the SSD cards so already wasted 1/3rd of the machine shelf life making do with the vanilla Apple drive.

Honestly when Polysoft was the 1st and only player in town, this sort of delay may have been acceptable since the whole thing was experimental to begin with, and we can all agree to appreciate their effort in taking the initial risk. But at this stage, the alternatives popping up from China are ironically more reliable as a seller is just not helping their case.

So our Mac Studios are having shorter shelf life
I don't entirely see that as the case. Will your Studio stop fulfilling your needs once the M5 Ultra is released? Apple as largely stuck to an annual cadence in rolling out the M series processors, though the ultra is has been the exception to the case.

While I'd love to get a new M5 Max Studio, its eventual release in no way impacts my current setup, its as good as the day I bought it.

I just meant that this generation of Mac Studio is undergoing a shorter upcoming update cycle than otherwise, so that an unnecessary delay in having the storage sorted ASAP further shortens the amount of time that our machines are at its best value. For us to have chosen to go with alternative storage solutions must have maximizing value in mind in the first place, I suppose.

Maybe it just gonna be an Ultra version or if they launch the Max version then maybe they gonna kill SSD upgrades 🤣

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum, even though I have been reading it for a while :)
Besides the site mentioned by others, I found another one also on AliExpress, which sells the 8TB module for much less. Fangyuan is at €1,142.08, the other, NovaX Store, at €925.47. The strange thing is that this nearly 20% difference only exists for this capacity; for the others, they are quite similar. What do you think? Has anyone bought from this other supplier?https://it.aliexpress.com/item/1005...|x_object_id:1005009336369043|_p_origin_prod:

I looked at this supplier as well and they were cheaper compared to the store i purchased from, but they lacked in communication which worried me.

I understand your point of view, but they are only economical for the 8 Tb.
Hope someone else has bought from them and can share their impressions.
What worries me, in either case, is that customs costs might also have to be added. I am in the EU, and what I read on AliExpress for both sellers is that the displayed price includes VAT.

You likely will not receive a response or refund from @gilles_polysoft. At least that has been my experience over the past months.

If he doesn’t refund you in a reasonable amount of time, you can always file a chargeback with your credit card company.
Count on that. I will get an answer and a refund

Time always works in your favor, especially with apple.

As mentioned before, nothing will happen to your system and nobody will stop selling SSD's.

Hell, see how Apple still has M1 and M2 Studios that are being sold by others brand new.

The same thing might happen with M4's, especially after the M5 models are launched.

Then again, if you have the money to buy the new one every year or so, then it doesnt matter.

I double-checked this with ChatGPT (and also cross-referenced EU customs data).

SSD drives fall under tariff code 8471 70 70, which carries 0% import duty in the EU.

VAT (20% in France, for example) is already included in the AliExpress checkout price, (it days VAT included and if you click on the exclamation mark just on the right it displays the exact amount of VAT which equals to 20% ) the platform collects and remits it through the EU VAT system (IOSS for small parcels or DDP for larger ones).

So in theory, no extra fees or taxes should be due on delivery, unless customs randomly inspect the parcel or the seller under-declares its value.

Happy and satisfied user here, from Netherlands. I bought a 8TB package from Polysoft for my M1 Studio; must have been the first batch, I think. Very swift delivery, very user-friendly installation documentation.

To me, it looks as if Polysoft has become overwhelmed by the huge demand and has maybe/probably taken on more work/orders than they can manage. This in combination with a few technical (board failures) and political (tariffs) set-backs.

Still, they should make sure that every customer is informed about status and that delivery lives up to the promises made. I'm not quite sure what I would do in today's customers position.

Still, I think it is fair to mention that their product - once delivered and installed - works very good indeed.
