Because If I put myself in the guys shoes if I looked and saw my preorder launch phone was delivered to someone else in another city I would be upset.

Absolutely, but you can't control UPS' mistake nor should you even feel remotely responsible. Just drink that beer and relax!

There's no reason to bring it to them. The police has better to do than track down the owner of a box. Hold on to it for a while and if no one gets in contact with you about it, I guess you have a free iPhone on your hands. I highly doubt you would be charged with theft, and they would probably ask for it back before they went to such drastic measures.

It would be my luck I wait a month because no driver comes but once I activate it a bunch of cops show up at my door and drag me off to jail and the people at my church see the news media me being led off in hand cuffs for not driving and hour away to UPS hub to turn in a phone they wrongly delivered. My husband would probably be happy. Lol.

Are you a LEO? If you come across any property that does not belong to you the police will hold it. Just tell UPS or whoever where you left it. If you hold onto it to long you could possibly be charged with theft.

Me - Officer, UPS delivered the wrong package to my house so I want to leave it with you.
Officer - Did you contact UPS or Apple? How is this a police matter.
Me - vikingjunior told me since I came across this property by accident I should turn it into the police or I could be charged with theft.
Officer - Really, do we look like a UPS holding office, contact UPS and have them pick it up.

vikingjunior, how the heck is she going to be charged for theft for an accidental delivery, especially since she has already contacted UPS and Apple, get real. And FYI, my sister is a LEO and I just asked her.

Your church congregation will probably disown you.
And your husband will file for divorce, your job is definitely going to fire you and you'll end up some butch prison chicks girlfriend.
All over accepting something that wasn't yours.
You should go find that ups driver and wait outside the ups hub location at 6am when all the drivers go in.
They will all be wearing brown clothing but get some binoculars to identify him from far away before he gets in.
Don't bother going back to work till you take care of this and don't return to any known location where the FBI could trace you.
Use cash and change your appearance.

Do you seriously think Apple, the police, and UPS have time for that? :p Worst case scenario the phone doesn't activate.

No Why? A Libra. They have notes on all the accounts how I was upset about it so I don't think I will be charged with theft. It was delivered to me with my iPhone's. Not my fault. Should I take to PD even if they told me not to? That was one of my alternative question to Apple. The guy sort of snickered at me. So many crooked cops what would they do with? Their must be a reason they told me not to do that.
LEO Law enforcement officer. LoL. The police station would just act as a neutral place to wash your hands of it. Let them call the owner it's there job as a public servant. They will give you a property receipt.

Um...LEO=Law Enforcement Officer.

You're such a considerate and lovely person. I'm sorry this has caused you so much stress.

If I were in your place I would tell them where they could stick their protocol and either come to my office to get it or meet me at my house at a time I specify. You already went above and beyond to do the right thing. Those clowns at Brown need to meet you on your terms now.

Bless you and enjoy your new iPhone and the rest of your weekend.

I might run over there after work 7ish hubby works later. See what they say let them know what Apple and Ups said. I'm not leaving nothing without a receipt or document. I'm not quite as worried if they sent them another phone already, free of charge is what it should be that was a huge mistake. We have a nice alarm system so I'm not too worried but ya never know. Apple paid UPS big bucks for shipping these. When he scanned them all and it beeped after each one. Wouldn't that handheld not registered properly when he asked to spell my name after I signed and he punched it in?

I think you are worrying about this way too much. You have gone above and beyond your responsibilities in this case. UPS screwed up. You didn't do anything wrong. It is not your responsibility to fix it. If you wanted to drop the phone off to the person, despite being advised not to, then I am sure it would make that person's day. If not then you can give it back to UPS when they pick it up. If they won't pick it up then in my opinion you can keep it. No need to go to the police it's just a package. Would you go to the police if you got a random package that you didn't know was an iPhone?

There's no reason to get the police involved. This is mis-delivered property, not stolen property.

UPS finally got here at 9:30 PM last night the driver was old, hot and sweating. I gave him a bottled water. He said he was helping the other driver because they were swamped. He asked me to sign and handed me four boxes. I thought good they must had shipped the one I bought for my brother early that was delayed. I went in the kitchen, turned on lights and noticed he gave me someone's Iphone 6s plus. The guy lives in a city about 45 min away. I am really freaked out having someone's iPhone. My three were correct. I called 5 min after for UPS to come get it 800 number said not until mon. I checked the tracking online from his box. It shows delivered to my name and city. I called Apple and asked if I should take it to Police dept. I told her I was nervous about having his property here. They said not to worry. Yeah right. I bet the guy is freaked out seeing his Iphone delivered to me.

I am beyond frustrated. I called UPS again this morning sat online waiting for a sup almost an hour to see if I could drop it off at the UPS store around the corner as I work Mon-Fri. She said no it had to be picked up from my house since it was tracked and signed as delivered here. I told her I work Mon-Fri. She said was going to try to send a driver today Sat. I have to leave to my Nieces birthday party in an hour.

Any advice???. I just don't know what the heck to do if he doesn't come in time. Apple said the guy has called them looking for it but they are going to take care of it. She wouldn't tell what that meant. She said I would receive an email. I've revived nothing.

I haven't even been able to enjoy my own iPhone being on calls to UPS and Apple since yesterday. I thought about driving it out to the person 45 min away but UPS said no because it would still show as delivered to me and he could say I never gave it to him

I'm tired and frustrated being passed around on the phone with these people. Anyway, I have to leave in an hour and work all week. Hopefully he will be here but if not what should I do???
Shouldn't the guys phone number be on the box? Call him and tell him to come get it

:D Good one! Lol! Thanks I needed that laugh. I attended a family birthday party myself. My last post was actually made from there. My parents were there nagging me about my hair, the way I stir spaghetti sauce...I'm 49 not 9!

I hope your niece had a happy birthday.

Lol thanks Grumpymom. You better stir that spaghetti right. I'm close to your age so I hear ya!!!

I want a paper trail shown on UPS tracking that it's un-delivered to me in case of future repercussions for my protection. If I just hand it to him the status stays the same on UPS tracking site.

I was on the phone with apple an hour last night while they kept putting me on hold she kept telling me they were taking care of it. So if apple already has one on the way to him and I give him this one he has two. I'm the one who been stressed I think UPS should handle it.

I'm too tired. I have to work long days all week. I still haven't opened my own phone to try.

I'm looking for UPS tracking status updates on the site that was listed for the packages before they were delivered. It originally showed where packages were each day. Now only info says China date sent, and day it was delivered.

Where did all the detailed info go? How can I view it again or does UPS clean the slate?

If this is stressing you so much than let your husband handle the problem. I do believe you said you were married earlier. What has he been doing while you have been stressed about the situation? Why are you handling this all by yourself?

1. Stop overreacting.

2. Tell UPS it's their mistake and they will collect it at your convenience; you're not taking time off work so they can collect it during their office hours.

3. Go about your life as normal.

Exactly!!!!!

UPS made the mistake; it's not your problem. Chill, co-operate and let them do the leg work.

The phone is not lost or stolen. It is accounted for by UPS and Apple, albeit it in the hands of the wrong person by innocent means. The police aren't needed as they are not delivery people and no crime was committed(unless you knowingly took possession of the phone when you 100% knew it was not yours) in receiving the phone.

The fact that UPS and Apple want a UPS driver to pick the phone up from you may be some kind of financial responsibility action? As in, if it gets lost and someone told you to do something other than wait for a driver to pick it up, who is going to pay for a phone that may now officially get lost after it has left your residence and possession?

It's a headache, I know.

I ordered a Micron computer many years ago and the UPS driver dropped off 4 boxes, when the delivery should have been two boxes. I never checked the shipping labels because I was very excited to open up the boxes and set up the computer. After opening all the boxes and seeing one tower, and 3 monitors, I obviously was stunned.

Long story short, I called UPS and they were out the next day promptly to pick up the extra monitors.

If you want to give the recipient a call - look at the line below the second bar code on the label - after the / - you should see the recipients phone number along with a few extra digits.
