UPS - Hold for Pickup

How many people are using this option tomorrow? I've actually never done it... Just selected it and find the process weird. No confirmation email that I've done so - no email with instructions.
For anyone that has done it will it for sure be ready tomorrow at 8:30 am? Or have you ever run into any problems with this service?
Any input is appreciated :D
 
You just have to watch to see when it shows arrived at your local depot. I don't know about the email but when I changed it to hold for pickup, it told me I could pick it up today.

Well I have to see it scanned at the local depot. It said it left at 2am, it is only about a 4-5 hour drive, so it should be there already but maybe just not scanned.
 
I do this every year with my pre-orders. Last year with iPhone 6 launch, I went to UPS MyChoice once a tracking number was available and submitted the request to have it held at the local depot 1 mile from my house. It was ready for me to pick up when UPS opened at 8:30am - sure beat waiting for the UPS truck to show up!

Did my choice tell you that your iPhone package would be available a day early? If so, did you try to pick it up early?

Waiting is the hardest part, thats why I decided on this option after seeing a few in the 4/24 - 5/8 delivery thread choose it.
I chose it earlier this morning as my shipping \ tracking information didn't show up in MyChoice until early this morning. When I changed it I got a dialogue box saying available to pickup 4/24, but that was it. No confirmation email, or nothing stating that in MyChoice now... Do you get anymore confirmations or emails? Or do I just show up tomorrow? :p

Wait...it told you that pick-up would be 4/24? It told me I could pick it up today. Weird.

Yes, it said available for pickup starting 4/24, must be picked up 5 days after that or returned to shipper.
But like I said my tracking info only started showing up on MyChoice as of 1:40am EST. And my status is still "Ready for UPS" So the package has not been scanned yet.
 
How long will I be able to choose this option? My package still hasn't scanned as leaving yet. I usually get my UPS deliveries in the AM and my house is way closer to the office that the customer center which doesn't open til 8:30. So I am wondering if it's just better to get it delivered to the house and run back to the house once I get the notice.

While I was doing it I believe it said the option was available until 3am the day of delivery... Don't quote me on that. ;)

I'm right there with you. This could be awesome, or terrible. Guess I'll find out tomorrow.
I guess I should also mention that when I did this my delivery date of 4/24 disappeared off MyChoice, now it has nothing. Did this also happen to you?

So I have until I go to bed tonight to decide... I'll wait it out and see when it leaves TN. And how I feel about taking time off work to drive to UPS store.
Maybe I will find a way to need to leave the office at that time for an important meeting #

Do you guys know if with UPS MyChoice you can have the package delivered to a UPS office in another town?

Never used it, but since I happen to be quite far from my office tomorrow, I might ask to have the Watch delivered where I will be.

One more: if the "delivery to another town" option is not available, would they allow somebody else to pickup the package at one of their locations?

Oh my coworkers will know right away why I am leaving... They all know I'm getting the watch. I can't stop talking about it. But at least I can pretend it's work!

When I selected it - it gave me a bunch of locations to choose from. At that point I could still cancel so I would select it and take a look around. Make sure you choose a customer center though, not a UPS Store. I've heard customer centers will have it delivery day, whereas UPS stores might delay the date.
If that doesn't work I believe I also read that someone else CAN pickup the package. It mentioned they would have to show ID and provide the tracking number, I'm pretty sure there was a button to add someone for pickup.
 
I set mine up for pick up at the local UPS Customer Center since my driver doesn't usually make it to the house until 6-7pm. Did it last year for the first time with the iPhone 6 launch and was able to pick it up when they opened in the morning. It was super easy.

It will greatly improve your production. Imagine the time you'll save by not having to pull your phone out with every notification. Productivity through the roof! They should be thanking you.

I also tried to choose the store closest to the distribution center. There was an option when selecting the store for "Show only locations with early pickup", implying I'd be able to get it right when the store opens I assume.

Amazingly reassuring.
Like I said my package isn't physically in UPS possession so all I know is that its leaving Mount Juliet, TN.
Is this guarantee also include that it'll be ready when the center opens? Or should I be tracking the package because theres a possibility it won't be available until later in the day?
 
Hi, I have never done this either. However, I have a Customer Center close to me and UPS MyChoice gave me the option so I took it. I called UPS first and was told they actually recommend this if you are not sure you will be home to sign for it because Apple is requiring a signature. She said although that decision is left up to the driver that it is very unlikely the driver will leave an Apple product unattended.

She also confirmed something I suspected. Be very sure to only have it held for pickup at your local CC center because if you select pickup from a UPS store it will have to be routed there and that could delay availability of your item. So just make sure the location you select on MyChoice has the name of UPS CC.

In other words, the flow of things is our packages go to the CC center and are loaded on the truck, so by having it held there it will prevent your package from being loaded on the delivery truck. By specifying a UPS store, your package will be loaded on the truck for delivery to the UPS store specified so then you would wait, just like you will wait at home.
