I suspect UPS is having Customs Import data files getting loaded prematurely - like after they are loaded to a manifest in China or Korea, and the devices are not making trips all over the place.

Pretty sure this has been documented before and is more to do with time zones and changes than actual movement. Correct me if I'm wrong but seems to happen sometimes each year.

Yep, I've seen this happen more than once. It's usually not worth getting worked up about.

Same thing is happening to me.

On the 19th, the package got picked up and made it out to Korea. Then it went back to China, and back to Korea again, where it appears to be staying. It's been there since the 20th, with no departure scan.

I'm hoping that the data being displayed is wrong - had been hoping to get it tomorrow.

literally the same exact tracking information for me too! I really hope I get my phone tomorrow so I can enjoy it this weekend.

My iPhone 6 did something similar.
What it came down to was it was somewhere other than in my hand.
Aside from the frustration side it was humorous, after I got it.

Yeah, I wouldnt be surprised if this is a lot of noise signifying very little. Shipping manifests, customs reports, tons of paperwork, all being filed at times separate from when the item is actually en route.

Mine did this.

China, Alaska, Kentucky, Osaka Japan, Alaska, Kentucky, then finally to me yesterday.

My iPhone is even more well travelled than me at this point.

Similar roller coaster experience. First, my iPhone 7 plus was scheduled to be delivered on Wed, then the date changed to Thur and now there is no update. Called both UPS and Apple. UPS said they can give a better idea only when it is in the US and that Apple shipments are handled by a different department. Apple said, it is still coming before Oct.

It's most likely a customs issue where if a shipment isn't cleared, it's systematically placed in UPS's system as being on hold until the paperwork goes through. Customs clearance may simply be backed up in Alaska or wherever that shipments are being delayed.

UPS is certainly inefficient but I doubt they'd be so inefficient as to actually fly a whole shipment back and forth.

I've had similar issues with UPS throughout the years. Essentially every time "customer service" (which I've been told is just contracted out and really can only see very little more than what we see) tells me most of what is seen in tracking are hypothetical trackings based on past performance. I once had a package leave and arrive at the same LA based facility five times over a two day period.

I'm experiencing exactly this. Except now there has been multiple delays. Was supposed to be delivered today, but as of yesterday morning it still hadn't left Asia, so I knew something was up. It was delayed until tomorrow, but now there is no delivery date at all.View attachment 657160

This literally looks like my order. Seeing exactly the same from the origin scan to the mechanical failure.

My issue is that the stock at Apple Stores has started to improve yet some of us who woke up to pre-order still have no shipment notifications. So at this point does one cancel their preorder and attempt to catch one at a local store?

It's a shame they're not accruing air miles for the customers.

The Phones have travelled more than most people waiting for them.

The customer also has the ability to flag the package by contacting UPS directly. They have been helpful with issues like this in the past.

I think it's adorable how people think they're tracking "their" phone.
Lol, it's like going to get the $10 you deposited in your bank account & being shocked the bill you got doesn't have the phone # you remember writing on it.
With a shipping of this volume- MASS amounts are sent out to major population areas. Then they can slap a label on yours @ the last point possible.
This type of flexibility allows your shipping times to reduce seemingly impossible amounts. It also can make it appear as if your shipment is bouncing all over, as the logistics software updates your item to be delivered from a DIFFERENT batch.

This isn't really an issue or a story......this has happened for years....It's a combination of the time differences and it being stuck in customs, combined with the mass multi shipments. It's not really going back and forth. An entire cargo container may not be held in customs...just part of it ( like a pallet or two)when it gets broken up and farmed out to distribution centers, etc.

Count me in on this one. I ordered 2 phones at nearly the exact same moment. My wife's arrived on Tuesday with no globetrotting. Mine got stuck over the weekend and then start continent jumping. Maybe it will arrive tomorrow . . .

An increasing number of customers who ordered the iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus have noticed irregular movement on their shipments, as confirmed by multiple tipsters who have contacted us. The peculiar UPS tracking information has also been documented by several Twitter and Reddit users.

iPhone-7-UPS-tracking.jpg

MacRumors reader Daniel G., for example, has seemingly seen his iPhone 7 Plus order move between Shanghai, China and Anchorage, Alaska, only to end up back in China. The shipment even made a brief stop in Osaka, Japan, before heading to Louisville, Kentucky en route to Long Island City in Queens.Other MacRumors readers said likewise in discussion topics titled "My iPhone is on a travel adventure" and "Waiting for UPS."

Reddit user AlphaAnger, too, shared a nearly identical scenario:Twitter user Minton, who shared the UPS tracking information pictured above, has seen his iPhone order travel from Zhengzhou, China to Incheon, South Korea to Louisville, Kentucky, at which point it was seemingly sent back to Hong Kong. The entire movement took place within a span of just three days.
Minton is not alone, as several Twitter users have noticed similarly irregular movement on their iPhone orders this week.
In some cases, shipments have moved between the U.S. and Asia in only a few hours, which is unrealistic even when accounting for time zone differences. UPS has allegedly told some customers the irregular movement is related to paperwork, but weather and mechanical issues could also be involved.

Whatever the underlying reason may be, the issue appears to be slowing down iPhone deliveries for at least some customers in the United States. Some customers on Twitter have complained that their new iPhone is "stuck in Korea," while others have vented their frustrations towards UPS's customer service account.

Stuck in Korea also... for more than 24 hours. I pre-ordered around midnight on Sept 11th. I paid $10 extra for faster shipping.

[Update] Just called Apple they said my phone will arrive tomorrow as scheduled. I guess the UPS back-end site is slammed and reporting incorrect shipping information. Huzzah!
