As far as I'm concerned, the fault lies at the feet of apple. I payed for a product, and without my knowledge its ended up in the hands of somebody else. If they sent a conformation of change of address the day it happened I would have had 7 days to report the incident. But I was told nothing. It's frustrating because it's entirely avoidable. The postal company have just delivered to the address that apple have supplied.

Of course it's their fault, you need to escalate it.

In the worst case scenario there is a thing called visa chargeback that exists with visa debit and you can reclaim money that way.

I preordered an iPhone 6 and an iPhone 6 plus last Friday to be delivered on the 19th. I had no reason to think the phones wouldn't turn up on time.

I received a text this morning telling me the phones have been delivered. I was confused, as to my knowledge no phones had been delivered to my house. So I contacted apple, who told me the phones have been delivered to an address in Norwich (166 miles away). I asked them to explain themselves and how this could happen. They told me somebody called up on Saturday the 13th and changed the address on my order.

I didn't recieve any conformation emails about the change of address which I find bizarre! I don't know how they could change the address, let alone not think to send a conformation email. The lady on the phone basically told me there is nothing they can do and that I have lost out on £1300. I'm at a loss what to do, I have contacted the police but I'm unsure how to take it up with apple? Any ideas?

Sounds like someone you know who ripped you off. How else would they know you had two iPhones on order and to change the address. Do you have any friends or people you know that live out that way? You also should be able to see the Status of the order and shipping address via you apple store account.

Exactly. That part doesn't quite add up and OP hasn't addressed it yet.

I changed the address of my own order and not only had to prove my identity but also received a confirmation email once the change was made.

i don't think its anyone i know, only my parents, girlfriend and best mate knew i had them on order. and none of them would do that, I'm certain of it. and they all live close to me, norwich is the other side of the country to me. i have no friends or family there, not even distant relatives. i also have the address of the delivery, I've handed it over to the police.

I hope so, I'd be sick to my stomach if I lost £1300 I'm only a student !

Wow, that's alot of cash to drop as a student.

The most likely explanation I'd say. Though I'd not look for people you know that live far away, rather someone who would have access or a chance to see you access your Apple account. They could have had it shipped to a friend of a friend, someone you would have no chance to even know.

the only possibility is a breach in my email. in which case after the change had taken place, an email should still be sent to me to confirm the change. i didn't have a clue any change or any breach had even taken place until it was too late.

like many of you here, I'm trying to tie up the loose ends and work out exactly how this could have happened. if theres one thing I'm sure of, its that its not one of my friends or family. the people who did know are rock solid, and way richer than me! they have no reason to steal them. we'll find out before Monday when apple list to the call that took place.

Really? Well, semantics I guess, doesn't really matter who provides the protection, I know that I am not liable for fraudulent activity on my debit card.

Who, if not the bank, makes and enforces that policy?

If you follow the link I posted earlier, a lot of the protection layers are provided by Visa.

OP-what have your bank said???

Change of address has to be verified by OP via email.

Delivery has to be signed for.

Something is wrong here.

Does OP have this information on his computer i.e : Account number, etc ? Or in a desk ?

Is the computer used by someone in addition to OP ?

Does OP live with parents, at school dorm ?

Hmm

Yeah fishy story...maybe they did send a conformation email and whoever it is that did this knows you email password and deleted that email so you would not see it?

OP did you post your order information at all on here with your order number possibly? Very weird situation especially with no confirmation email etc.

Not "blaming" the OP here, but could this be another version of the recent leak of celebrities' private photos?

The tabloid press jumped on saying Apple had been hacked, when what actually happened was people's email address and passwords were changed, simply by using the "Reset Password" option and guessing the answers to the security questions.

I'm guessing the OP isn't an A List celeb (no offence), which means that SOMEONE WITH ACCESS TO HIS INFO used that info to get this done.

OP-have you googled the delivery address to see if it turns up any other (similar) results?

Like others have said, this isn't a simple case of theft.

There are multiply charges here including mail fraud, identity theft, larceny,

And a bunch of others, at least in the USA. I would imagine it isn't drastically different there.

we all would love to think family or friends could never do such a thing. But, take a minute to think about who all knew you ordered an iPhone, and then who would have access to your email/computer... or know you well enough to answer any question Apple may ask when changing the address. Some people may be envious or jealous and you may never know. Best of luck though, if you have that address I would start there. Get the home owners name file a police report, etc.

quick update guys, the guy from apple told me that the fraud department will look into it and listen to the conversation that took place with apple and the fraudster.

I would scan the Mac or PC first. They could have installed malware or virus on your computer.

so it turns out delivery was attempted in the location 166 miles away, which is why i didn't hear anyone knock.

You could hear it if you were Superman. :D

Access to your email seems likely. Then the person could just delete the change of address email before you can even see it. I suppose it could also be an Apple screwup and your order got changed instead of someone else's so maybe no actual crime was committed. Good luck. Hope it works out for you.

No, never. I ordered the phone, then got the conformation email straight after. And then no more emails from apple until today when they confirmed delivery. I look at my emails on my phone, which only I have access too, even my close relatives/girlfriend don't have access. So if I did get an email, I'd at least have a copy that got pushed to there, because nobody except me can delete from my phone. Apple said that emails are sent to customers but are not guaranteed. They were careful how they said it, but they sort of implied that no email had been sent, without actually saying that.

OP-have you asked UPS for the PoD (Point of Delivery) scan??

I'd be really keen to know who's NAME was on the delivery address and also who signed for it.

Another small point, my personal email and Apple ID are separate. So the ones my friends and family use is completely seperate my my other email which is used only for iCloud ect

Is your email set up on your phone as a normal 'POP' account, Exchange, or IMAP?

It is entirely possible that the email was deleted before it had a chance to get to your phone (depending on how it is set up).

Trying to get a hold of it now buddy.

That's true. But as it stands, I have ordered a product and have not received it due to somebody fraudulently acting as me. I have been a victim of fraud and have ended up £1300 down for no fault of my own.

Ring up Apple, complain and ask to speak to a manager/supervisor - only Apple can process the address change so someone stole your information and rang up and re-directed it.

Really sorry this happened :(

Me too, it sucks dude!

That's not true. I called Apple to change my shipping address from home to work and never received any sort of confirmation or followup. I did this for the 5,5s and 6.

From my experience, the confirmation email is only sent if you change it via the website.
