We knew of manufacturer (Apple) banned apps.
Now you have government banned apps.
Next logical step is that your dog will also want to ban your apps soon (and maybe take a 30% cut on the rest), because why not. He should have a say too in what you run on your phone.
What a time to be alive where software can be highly political and cause tension between countries ! Look for a lot more of it in the future as apps are weaponized.

What I find interesting is that you equate the US government's banning of these apps for the stated desire of protecting American citizens from snooping by the CCP to the Chinese government's banning of other apps and services for the stated desire of not being able to have a back door to further snoop on their own citizens.

You can argue whether or not the US government is being disingenuous in this, but the two situations aren't, from a stated purpose, apples to apples.
I agree with what you say. Before I continue I should state that I am over 30, and on a personal level couldn't care less about TikTok existing or not. That said, there is no actual evidence of TikTok spying for China. Does the app collect data about its users... I am sure they do. But if the litmus test for banning a company is that they collect data on users and the company is based overseas, then by definition many other companies constitute a threat and should be banned. This is a slippery slope and continuing to ban companies based on where they are located will end up causing more harm than good to economies abroad and at home.

And lets be real, if China wants to collect data on US citizens, there are much more efficient ways to go about it and much better quality data to be had than what tiktok could possibly provide.

All this means is that users who want or need wechat (likely) will just change their account region to Mainland China, at which point their iCloud backups get dumped into this place.

Unlucky!

True let’s hope that. And let’s close down all military bases outside of that nation A’s home country too - now that would send a sign to be really a to expansionist of any kind.
World peace relies on the US having a global presence unless the EU wants to step up their game which I am all for its a necessary evil for the time being. I would love for the US military to go fully domestic but I cant see it happening soon. Taiwan would cease to exist tomorrow. Israels new partnerships may be a gateway for the US to leave the Middle East at some point but that is still shaky. Last time I was in Germany their infantry was using broom sticks to simulate weapons while we were doing live fire exercises. I do not think the EU is ready to take on an expansionist Russia anytime soon.

For Android, the workaround is easy. Users can install directly from APK or from a App Store that host these apps. For iOS, could users just switch App Store country/region to get the app? I remember that it is not too difficult to switch country of Apple ID back and forth.

Of course they do. Remember the huge Apple vs. FBI case? Apple didn't comply with their orders either...

Apple complied by handing over all iCloud data. The FBI wanted Apple to create a backdoor, a backdoor that currently doesn't exist.

I continually see this sentiment expressed, but it's a fundamental misunderstanding (especially by western / non-native Chinese people). The turning over of data to the CCP is compulsory in China; i.e. it's required by law. For a general understanding, I would simply refer people to Wikipedia, but web searches quickly and easily refute any notion that the CCP doesn't expect Chinese companies to spy and/or turn over data.

Not defending China, I think they r acting like the Nazis of 2020 but did the US government (Trump) show any proof of their claims to the public? Seems rather dangerous without it cuz what would stop the government to use the same „excuse“ to ban anything else they don’t like

I agree. Is there an imbalance with how China treats US companies compared to how the US treats Chinese companies? Absolutely. The US should be building a legal framework on how to address these issues across the board. Instead POTUS sets a bad precedence, first by requiring a company that pissed him off personally to sell to a US company, and now to ban it.

I don't think he realizes that the US stock market he loves to talk about so much, is heavily reliant on the rest of the world, including China.

It pleases me to see Jianguo Zdrumpf continuously providing a rope with which to hang himself. He just told a few million Tiktok users not to vote for him.

Build that wall, Mr. Zdrumpf! Make America a walled garden again!

Commerce Department officials said they were taking the unprecedented step of banning the apps because of the risks posed by their data collection practices and Chinese ownership.

U.S. government: "TikTok poses a risk to data and privacy, so we're going to allow people to continue downloading the app for months on end while we try to force ByteDance to sell it to us. And it'd be nice if the treasury got a cut of the deal too"

Then ban Facebook, Google and all the other American Apps too.
Apples and oranges. Those companies are US based and do not have servers/data physically in China. TikTok and WeChat do. The US has the grounds to ban these apps and it’s their call.

Since when is the US Government required to show all national security information with the public? The intelligence wing of the United States does things all day, every day that you and I never know or hear about. There is a reason for that.

I seriously doubt any Trump supporters are on TikTok most have even left Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube for Gab, Parler and Bitchute. Plus I imagine the average user is in an urban area that is typically blue and young so unlikely to even vote in the end.Its a minor loss at most while really rallying up his core supporters that have been wanting this.
