HardMac provides some long awaited rumors about the overdue Mac Pro and iMac updates. According to the site, Apple won't be releasing a new Mac Pro until "end of summer" with the iMac revision to follow a few weeks later.

They also report that Apple will be introducing two new technologies into their desktop machines: USB 3.0 and faster FireWire:
On this occasion, Apple should inaugurate two great innovations, the arrival of USB 3.0 and a faster Firewire interface, 1600 or 3200. Thus, Firewire will not forgotten.
The also report that Lightpeak isn't expected for another year, and, of course, we won't see Blu-Ray in these desktop Macs either.

No blu-ray? That stinks but I like the idea of USB 3.0... just not as much as having blu-ray!

Maybe new Cinema Displays, including new 40" and 50". How many cores are we looking at now, 12? Sexacore. hehe

Can I get an AMEN!?!?

Can I get an AMEN for faster FireWire?!?!

I still hold hope that Apple will shock and surprise w/ a LightPeak port on a Mac this year.. But faster FireWire makes me smile.

no blu-ray, no sale.

how can someone justify getting a 27 inch top of the line iMac and not able to legitimately buy and watch 1080P movies??

Can't we get something posted JUST ****ING ONCE about this iPhone antenna thing I heard someone mention?

.

I lol'ed. At 3:30AM, I lol'ed. :)

By being a graphics designer. Justified.

Seriously, not everyone LOVES BluRay. I don't, and don't care to.

A mega update then...

As the MacPro has been delayed for so long it will then probably come out together with the MacBook Pro. All with USB 3 then ? Then, I'll hold before getting a new notebook.:apple:

I wonder if we'll see the new Mac Pro sooner rather than later to take a bit of media attention off the iPhone 4 stuff. Shame light peak can't come sooner that sounds really cool from what I have seen so far.

Gotta give the peripheral companies adequate lead time to ramp things up.

Yay! Yet again a new FireWire port that is incompatible with everything!

I want Apple to bring back FireWire 400: Digital medium format cameras, pro camcorders and tape decks all use 400. Having to use an expensive adapter for everything is a pain, and finding out that your entire university is filled with macs but you can't download the pictures from the medium format camera because you forgot your freaking adapter at home makes me really angry!

Yeah, I think Steve should come out tomorrow for the iPhone conference and announce new Mac Pros! That'll shut up the media and make me incredibly happy - it's a win-win!

Somehow I doubt Brian Williams over at NBC will steal even 15 seconds from the BP spill coverage to talk about the Mac Pro. Apple has probably sold fewer Mac Pros over the past 4 years than they sold iPhone 4s in one day. Even on this forum, there is probably only a couple of hundred ppl giving a damn about the Mac Pro compared to thousands who follow the iPhone stories.

Thank God, I've been waiting months! Maybe new 27" externals to go along with it??

The Mac Pro has been unbelievably overdue, especially considering it is supposed to be the top-performance line of Macs (thus needing more frequent updates to keep up).

I'm surprised Macrumors systematically downplays that. Guys, you have a huge critical mass and I'm sure today even Apple follows you closely. Please do bring up this oddity when you mention Mac Pros, and consider expressing your wonders (I'm sure you do) as to why the Mac Pro has been so neglected to become basically abandoned. It has jumped two releases, and it's nearly two years now. I'm sure many of the Macrumors community are all ears on this.
