Great news, nevertheless!

Firewire makes a curtain call, eh?

That would be WWDC 2011.

Wow, that looks awesome. :D

But even if Apple would release something like that (+Lightpeak 2.0, USB4.5, 2 TByte Ram, 150 TByte SSD, -BD :p) and we were all hugging each other with tears of joy, *somebody* :)rolleyes:) would come here to post a picture of a Dell Ad with the statement, that if your Webcams brakes, you are ef'fed...

Nice to see some rumors of computer updates from Apple. The Mac Pro and Macbook Air haven't been updated in over a year. Sad to see since the iDevices all receive guarenteed yearly updates. iPhone in June.... iPods in september..... Yearly is better than the current system for Mac updates.

Yay! Yet again a new FireWire port that is incompatible with everything!

I want Apple to bring back FireWire 400: Digital medium format cameras, pro camcorders and tape decks all use 400. Having to use an expensive adapter for everything is a pain, and finding out that your entire university is filled with macs but you can't download the pictures from the medium format camera because you forgot your freaking adapter at home makes me really angry!

Why not bring back the ADB port and the floppy drive while you're at it?

FW 400 is outdated. FW 1600/3200 will share the same 9-pin port as FW 800, so hopefully no need for new cables.

Quite right you are. ;)

Makes sense. Bluray is a bag of hurt.

Jobs also said that the iPhone reception problem was a "non issue".

Personally, I think that Steve Jobs is a bag of hurt. Although, you might still believe whatever he says. For many of us, it is kind of irrelevant. He lost credibility.

No, that greedy, power-hungry, power-abusing, petty, vindictive, hypocritical old miser Steve Jobs is the whole world of hurt.

With Blu-ray drives: 0% goes to Apple

Without Blu-ray drives: forced to buy 720 (!!!!) media from the infamous WalledGarden vending machine known as iTunes (nickled and dimed to death, to which El Capitano Senor Jobs says where you can and can't use it), to which Apple gets XX% receives.

Meanwhile, is old Steve-O gonna pay for my additional data usage to downloand a frickin' 720 (!!!) media? Thought not.

"Hey, I got this great movie I wanna share w/ you. Here's my Mac Pro or iMac. Just borrow it and return it when you're done w/ it. Just make sure you lift w/ your back."

no blu-ray, no sale.

how can someone justify getting a 27 inch top of the line iMac and not able to legitimately buy and watch 1080P movies??

Aren't there any external USB/FireWire Blu-Ray drives to hook on a :apple:?

Faster firewire and USB3 are a must, Blu ray doesn't really bother me that much as you can easily install your own Blu ray drive into the macpro.

The Mac Pro has been unbelievably overdue, especially considering it is supposed to be the top-performance line of Macs (thus needing more frequent updates to keep up).
You do realise that this requires high end technology to keep up with? If no new server class processors are released, how do you expect Apple to upgrade it?
I'm surprised Macrumors systematically downplays that. Guys, you have a huge critical mass and I'm sure today even Apple follows you closely.
Because it is clearly MR's fault that Apple aren't releasing Mac Pros... Uhm.. Yeah..

USB3 is a welcome addition. I love my firewire, but is there a single firewire device currently in production above FW800? I know the higher speed exists in spec, but I can't find a single device or card that uses it. So Yay if the mac pro has it, but where's the stuff? Apple's all about pushing it for the future, but FW seems to have stalled at FW800. At least the original iMac had a few random USB things to use with it... Not so much with FW1600 or FW3200.

Same connector as FW800 at least.

If you are going to add the faster FW with nothing to use with it, why not slap in LightPeak as well since there isn't any devices for that either. Hell, create some new port with a fancy name and insane specs, but again, no devices.

I'll bet I can probably buy a eSATA card and several eSATA drives for less then the cost of a FW1600/3200 HD enclosure. (when one finally does come out).

Also I thought Intel wasn't pushing USB3 on their chipsets till 2011..

http://www.bit-tech.net/news/hardware/2010/04/13/rumour-no-intel-chipset-with-usb-3-until-20/1

Finally, I get the whole "Blu ray bag o hurt" thing... but does that include playback only? At least add support in the OS for playback so we can install our own drives... Seriously, only a handful of people would do it. They have data burning support already, is playback that hard?

If Lightpeak is coming out that soon, wouldn't it be too weird trying to push USB3 now?
Heck, I'll take USB3 while peripheral makers work out the logistics for LightPeak.

If it takes until September 2011 or later, (Special Event) then so be it.

I'm afraid WWDC 2011 will be just for iPhone 5.

Actually, you're probably right. LightPeak will be introduced via a Special Event.

WOW Firewire 16/32!!!!

When these are announced i'm going to toss each and every one of my enclosures (four ) and upgrade to the latest. Been waiting for this for YEARS.

Apple did quote that this years Mac will include new features. I'm looking forward to purchase a high end iMac. Can't wait!!!!!

Most likely but the problem is OS X wouldn't know how to deal with it.

I still have an iMac 7,1 and it's showing its age now. I am not paying £1600 to get i7, i5 better come as standard. I'll go the hackintosh route if they are going to rip off UK people again.

I agree I think he's become alot more arrogant (if that's possible lol) in the last few years.

Stop telling us what you think we want and listen to the customers. Stop holding back basic key features on products just so Apple will have something to say is new on the next revision.

I laughed when his one more thing at wwdc was video calling. It's technology that has been around since 2003 on regular phones. Apple were making out they just created it.

The last couple of years although I still love Apple products I have taken off my fanboy goggles.

Very nice, then again I don't know why it says the iMac is long overdue for an update. The last update was in October and in all respect it was an amazing upgrade.

You do realize that you can just get a FireWire 400 to 800 cable, right? It's not an adapter, either — it's an actual cable. You're talking a 4-pin cable to a 9-pin cable, right? Yeah, here's one right here.
