I'm totally happy with my 17" MBP from early 2009: 4GB RAM, upgraded HD to 1TB, replaced unused optical with a 500GB SSD running the system and applications, never had a problem EVER, not even a dead pixel. I will not give this computer up until it is stone-cold DEAD -- after multiple attempts to resuscitate. Ok, maybe when Apple makes a 17" laptop again... like that's gonna happen :-(

I'm not an Apple hater. I've been an Apple fanatic for 30+ years, preaching the Apple gospel to anyone that would listen.

That is, until the last year or so. The luster has faded from that once-shiny piece of fruit. Apple has lost its way. Apple is chasing the easy dollars at the expense of its dedicated fan base. Apple used to be about always doing the RIGHT thing. Not just socially and in business, but in the way it treated ALL of its customers, pros and beginners alike.

Apple is now just another electronics manufacturer. It's on its way to being another Sony. True innovation has given way to stagnation and the manufacture of appliances.

And that makes me very very sad.

I really seem to be lucky in this one. Last time I wanted to buy an Apple laptop was 2008. I bought a MBA which had fainted lines all over th screen if you would display anything in white. Over 3000 CAD. Gave it back right away. Now, after waiting for a MBP update for quite some time, I thought I'd give it a shot. First the speakers, now this. I am loosing my trust into Apple.

Glad I picked up a Macbook Air 13" during the BlackFriday deals. This new series of Macbooks "Pro's" are a complete joke and scam. I would never pay that amount of money for a machine that it's overpriced, under powered and now with this critical issues. Besides all of this, don't forget that the SSD is now soldered in to the board, so if anything goes wrong be prepared to visit an Apple Store with a big and fat wallet. I believe this Air I bought will be my last laptop from Apple
You complain about surface montage storage and you cite a Mac Air purchase! More fool you.

This almost certainly affects a tiny, tiny minority of people. Probably less than 0.01% of all purchases. Let's not blow things out of proportion, and we all know Apple will make things right for the unlucky few.

A few defective MacBook Pros doesn't change a single thing.
Wait, you missed a bit....!

The best MacBook Pros Apple has ever built. A few defective units is inevitable, but it doesn't change a thing. These are still the very best laptops money can buy.
Problem is, for big companies like Apple it's always just "a few affected products". It then takes a class action before they acknowledge that the issue is way more common.

How many years did it take for the iPod Nano 1st Gen?

Umm, if it's a hardware design or driver issue, rather than a manufacturing flaw, it affects 100% of MBPs.

Just because you haven't done whatever causes this, your machine might still be effected, you just haven't discovered it yet.
