Yeah I'd be willing to bet my left nut that this is a thermal management issue... the GPU or the logic board getting too hot and something is failing under the temperature...

I just don't know what was wrong with the thickness of the previous design? It was already the thinnest, or at least one of the few thinnest 15" laptops with dedicated graphics... They could have redesigned it to the new style, kept some extra flippin' legacy ports, put some DDR4 memory, you know, for "Pro Performance", had better cooling and just as good or better battery life because the battery could be bigger...

I am still stewing over the removal of the backlit Apple logo too.

always funny to see this. Wanna list all your apple devices too?

It's a relevant comment as 30 year loyalty (which I also share, Macintosh 512Ke since you're interested) says an awful lot about a company, especially one with as chequered a past as Apple. It takes a lot to make us waver but we seem to be entering that moment.

"Courage" Man!

Time to put some of that watchband R&D into GPUs.
That would be a $1 yearly. Lol

Apple is really screwing the pooch lately w QC. I think they thought that just havjng people use their beta software is more than enough for them and save money or something stupid like that lol.

What an embarrassment. It might not even be the actual GPU itself, more like the shoddy thermal paste they use. I have a 11" MacBook Air (Late 2010) that suffered from the same issue. I never took it to the Apple Store. I opened it up, cleaned off the thermal paste, and put on some fresh Arctic Silver. After closing it up, I let the Apple Hardware test run for a few hours to get it ultra hot so the paste would melt and spread a little more. Never had a display problem since.

I've been with Apple since the release of the IIe so I am with you. I have seen the ups and downs over the years, that's inevitable with any company. But I have never seen the amount of negative publicity as the last year has brought. I bought a 13" rMBP 2015 version recently to replace a 9 year old 13" MBP and I did it because the recent "update" to me was an overpriced underwhelming release of gear I wasn't impressed with. And I did need to replace the old rig. The fanbois are here, as expected, but it surprises me how many more dissatisfied folks are posting. Yes, we do seem to entering that moment. I am there now.

You're missing the big picture here. The new MBP is thin. Like really thin! And sexy. Did you see the pic compared to the 8 year old MacBook Air design??

I bought into the MacBook Pro ecosystem at the right time; the last generation 2015 MBP 13 inch (Broadwell). I remember debating with a friend last year whether I should wait for this years model, but we concluded, this would be Rev A. Rev A means, it will have a series of problems, which we are seeing in this post. My MacBook Pro was such a great buy, I am not bragging, I just feel lucky about it. I even got a corporate discount and its been working for one year without issue. As for my future, it definitely has another MacBook Pro in it, but that probably won't be until 2019 (if I am alive of course). For next year, I might take a detour and get a Surface Pro 5. Have the Surface Pro 3 and its a really great device.

Hopefully the issues Rev A adopters are experiencing will be fixed either through a driver update or return/exchange if necessary.

I also bought the IIe. I miss the keyboard, the floppy disk drive, the monitor, dot matrix printer and the paperback manuals.

13" MBP TB owner here. It's working fine so far, just putting out an opposing datapoint. And, Apple built the machine I was hoping for - an MBP in an MBA form factor.
