Could we stop putting the blame on Tim Cook for GPU issues? Remember, the hockey puck mouse was released under Steve Jobs, so were the following:

- G4 Cube - amazing design, but fatally flawed.
- iTunes for Mac OS 10 that could delete your files
- Mac OS 10.0 did not support DVD Playback.
- Mac OS X releases, 10.0 - 10.2 were basically slugs and performance truly didn't get better until 10.3 with QuickDraw 3D.
- Titanium PowerBooks that had faulty hinges and prone to shedding of the titanium material and trimmings
- G4 Aluminum PowerBooks also had there faults, check the Internet for a history lesson
- Thumb drive size iPod Shuffle, they immediately switched to the old design a year later
- Moving files between partitions in Leopard GM cause you to lose files.
- iTunes Ping
- iPhone 4 antenna issues

We could also go back 3 decades earlier with the Apple III. So, things weren't perfect under Jobs and I don't expect them to be any better under Tim Cook. Steve always said, they make stuff they like, they just charge you for the privilege of wanting one of what they like. This is Jony Ive's Mac, if you don't like it, don't buy it.

I have had two screen failures on mine.
Second one was just out of warranty and they had me send video and pictures said we are sending a tag and I emailed them saying cool. I asked the next day if they are going to warranty it and they told me NO so screw razer.

^^^ This. Razer is a joke. They tried hard to make the macbook pro for windows / gaming but there's SO MANY ISSUES with them AND where Apple will replace machines out of warranty and I've seen and witnessed it, Razer will do the above or say "your a day out of warranty, sorry".

Oh 1st Gen Early Adopter Model? hmm... Nothing could go wrong, right? WRONG! I said these things were going to be a year or two of YOU beta testing them. But that's what you bought! That's why I am enjoying my 4th Gen rMacBook Pro 2015 15", and I'll probably pick one of these up 3rd Gen... should have been there during the Waiting for Skylake MacBook Pro thread... GOOD LUCK GUYS!

Yuck. I never trust dGPUs in laptops. I've seen too many of them fail, in Macs and others.

Oh, rMBP with flaky dGPU? How unexpected!
Yep, my dad's 2012 15" dGPU rMBP fried. Twice. It seems that Apple got all the bugs worked out in the 2013-2015 models, and now they're back to crap.

Your model with a 10 series Nvidia was out of warranty?
Sure, if they said they'll fix it under warranty and changed thier mind, I'd be pissed too, but it was out of warranty right?

This almost certainly affects a tiny, tiny minority of people. Probably less than 0.01% of all purchases. Let's not blow things out of proportion, and we all know Apple will make things right for the unlucky few.

A few defective MacBook Pros doesn't change a single thing.

yeah its 2 weeks in, if these are failing now on a year or two its likely that there will be more and more failing if it is in fact a hardware problem (which it appears to be). I honestly wouldn't be surprised on this issue if it were a logic board design problem and not a chip problem

The graphics appear to act up most when users are completing intensive tasks, such as transcoding video with Adobe Media Encoder, syncing large photo libraries with Photos, or using other Adobe apps such as Photoshop and Lightroom...

Okay.

So to summarize, as long as we don't do anything pro on these computers, we should be okay. Just use that $1800 computer for web browsing and email and you should be fine. Don't worry, you'll still get your money's worth for that touch bar with all the emojis they're adding to macOS! And if you do need to get some serious work done, there's a nice Windows laptop for $500-800 less you can pick up for that stuff. ;)

The issue is: Apple pushes the boundaries of thinness unnecessarily (who was complaining about how 'fat' the 2015 mbp's were?) and that thinness leads to thermal issues.

The insides cook, and this is what the result is.

Is that actually the issue though? Do you have a reference? I'm not being glib. I'm genuinely curious. This is a constant issue.

Apple will blame AMD of course, but as always, the truth is that hackers have written better graphics drivers than Apple has! You spend $499 for a Radeon HD 7950 for a Mac Pro and Apple has no solution for graphics issues except to OBSOLETE your Mac Pro instead.

Apple is a tinker toy company now. Serious graphics is really beyond their capability.

I don't do anything too "pro", but I do use Photoshop and Lightroom regularly and I have a very large photo library. If I encounter any of these graphics issues, I can't see keeping this almost $4000 computer.

I'd suggest thinking hard about keeping it. If you can still return it -- might want to take that route? Its value on the used market goes down every time a new potential issue is found. If you have the issue, it might be 3-6 years before Apple admits it and does anything about it, based on history.

Just posting a note...

15" MBP 2016 1TB SSD AMD 460

Sierra 10.12.1

graphics glitches -- including the full screen fuzz... flashing when watching videos (youtube, etc.) and triangle glitches especially when using gmail.

Seems that we have until January 8th to return these... so, since this is occurring across different models (not just the 15" and not just w/ 460) -- could this be resolved via software?

Let's see what happens before January 8th.

Scott

I never had the full blown issues seen in some of the examples but I did get occasional windows turning red. That was one of the reasons I decided to return it while I still could. I really liked the new laptop but I'm happy it is en route back to Apple and I'm back to my 2012rMBP. I will likely buy again next year as I loved most things about the computer but it just really wasn't worth the $4K CDN over my 2012 especially when it was already on day one starting to have graphics issues.

Had I not ordered a MBP (minus the BS Pro) BTO that's now somewhere in production I would most certainly cancel it! I really was debating the MS Surface Studio but I went for the Mac, and boy do I ever have a case of buyer remorse! what a complete POS!!!!
You ordered it, haven't received it yet, and it's already a pos? Cool.

The only MBP I've ever had without graphics issues was my 12-inch G4. Every other one ha
I've owned dozens of MacBook Pro's and AMD GPU's have always caused me headaches. I truly hope they use Nvidia in the future.

I've had just the opposite experience. Pretty much every MBP I've had with an nVidia GPU has had a fatal issue and/or been recalled. The only one that didn't was my 12-inch PowerBook. I was hoping the switch to AMD would maybe prevent that, but it appears that won't be the case.

It baffles me why anyone would spend 4000$ when they don't do anything really pro. Of course, you do what you want with your money but I'd get a base model and go on a holiday with the difference.

Probably. Too thin for powerful GPU. Problem with heat dissipation?

Another website said "The issue, however, is related to overzealous third-party software and is not indicative of a critical hardware flaw. "

never said razer was great.
but with that said: I've had 4 friends all with a MacBook Pro 2011 each with a Geforce chip. they all had graphics failures and Apple bar told them that they essentially have to replace the entire logic board at a cost. and this is a few weeks AFTER apple care ended. no joke, all 4 of them experienced the same issue, and no recall was ever done by Apple.

EDIT:
they were actually 2010 models.
