When was the last time apple listened to market surveys?. To be more fair, should also ask Android users the same. But I doubt most Android users even are aware that new features come.
Anyway, I would have loved if IOS fixed its problems, like super poor font rendering in email (you have to zoom-in in most emails in the email app, while in Android the fonts are shown in a readable size, the font slide control is useless in the email; or the lack of editing a dialed number in the phone app; or the super lame text editing/selection capabilities; the ultra annoying “period” next to the space bar that is frequently typed by mistake while doing a search in a browser; the super ancient keyboard with keys basically not resizable (only one hand resizing) and lacking a better suggestion way, as in the blackberry dead smartphone (the typing suggestions appeared directly over the keys being typed, not on the top row in IOS since the beginning of time; not able to securing an app start with password; lack of multi account support in iPad; unreliable Airdrop and a long list that everybody has and that is without talking about hardware…

It’s been a fairly stable release. Much more so than beta 1 of 14 IMO. I have run into some issues with Safari not working properly on sites I frequent and my VPN crashes now and then. I haven’t really had any issues with my phone or my iPad outside of those two. I’m really excited for Universal Control, but it wasn’t enabled in the the first developer beta. That’s main reason I got all of the betas.

And the whimsical frustrating “smart” suggestions everywhere which makes me chase apps all the time and make waste time by having destroyed my beloved order.
Give me the chance to avoid “smart” widget recommendations!.
And the removal of one click quick action to dial a frequent contact from the phone app icon as in ios13; most quick actions are useless (not all, but most and are not customizable), Oh, and the clock widget that is ultra non-smart because IT always starts in Cupertino, why can’t it detect my current location or the configured zone of my phone?!. Siri that can’t event tell the time if no network!; and a loooong etc.

Not that I'd switch to Android...but seeing Android 12 is really tempting. Apple really needs to ramp up the development of iOS/iPadOS and ICLOUD. iCloud's web interface BADLY needs more features and updates.

Why add M1 to an iPad if the software is still so limited for power usage?

It’s an operating system for a phone. Who gets excited about operating system anymore?

I didn’t think there was much new this year either, but after using the beta for a few weeks I think there are a lot of “quality of life” improvements. As just one example, the Live Text feature is honesty amazing and works nearly flawlessly even in B1.

I fully agree. Spotify wishes me Good Morning, Good Afternoon, or Good Evening as appropriate to my time zone. Apple wishes me Good Evening when it is morning in my location as I am 10 hours ahead of California. So simple, basic and Apple cannot even manage that.

I can understand some disappointment with iOS, but iPadOS not so much. People were listening to the rumor mill far too much on iPadOS 15 and letting their fantasies run wild or even thinking for a second it would dual boot with macOS!

iPadOS 15 is a wonderful update for multitasking and a huge step forward. This is an S year for the iPhone software. Always has been on a tick-tock cycle. This was the year for the iPad much like 13 was. 14 was the year for the iPhone.

People would be complaining regardless. If they introduced too much stuff and it had some bugs, people would whine about that too. It's impossible to introduce a lot of features and have .0 not be buggy. It's even more impossible to redesign something and not have .0 be buggy. Even Google's Android betas are riddled with bugs and the final version has some minor ones even still. At least Apple does more of them so by the time it comes out it's less of a problem!

Neither update looked very exciting, and iPadOS was downright a disappointment for anyone hoping to really use an iPad as their main machine.
Agreed. The iPadOS being the biggest. Last April, being bored because of the lockdown, I fell for that whole “Your next computer is an iPad” marking pitch. Geared up with the new 12.9 Pro with the keyboard and pencil. While I could get some stuff accomplished I was no where as near productive as I had been with my Mac. So iPad gifted to the wife and I’m happy with my MacBook.

The hardware is not the limiting factor for the iPad. The OS is. It needs a major rebranch from iOS. Maybe that’s what Apple will do long term by fitting MX processors in there, but I don’t see that happening even by iPad 16.

Things like “ipad widgets on desktop” shouldn’t even count. It was almost like apple purposely didn’t given ipad certain features last year just so they’d have something to provide this year.
I agree but glad they added it. Makes me think the same multitasking could come next year to the iPhone

For the first time ever I’m leaning more into android 12 but I’m deep in the apple eco system so I’m screwed I’m just unhappy with how apple is doing things recently, they just don’t have the wow factor anymore
You can still enjoy android and stay in the ecosystem though. Get a cheap pixel

no harm in toting android if you are bored. Using one company can get boring after a while

What major feature does Android have that IOS does not? That argument made more sense to me a few years ago before iCloud, which created a file system.
1. Create different profiles on the phone like your computer (great if you have kids)

2. Customization (everything can be tweaked)

3. You don't need an app for everything you do (i.e when adding a loyalty card to Google Pay, you just need to scan the bar code and its in your wallet)

4. When you go to the airport and your flight is late, at a glance displays it on your screen (again no app needed)

Shall I keep going?

Let iPadOS with M1 chips run full OS X when docked with an external monitor.
I can’t say I disagree with you fully, but have you seen how large macOS is when installed? Combined with having to have iPadOS also installed on the same iPad? The logistics alone would be a nightmare of having to switch.

That being said, I’d love it if somehow some apps could rescale or use a different universal package to utilize the bigger screen when displayed externally. That could be a happy medium.

It’s funny because many android fans aren’t keen on android 12

1. iOS 15 Focus
2. Customization is relative. Do you mean changing the systemwide text to comic sans? You can keep that.
3. You… can do that on Apple wallet too.
4. That does automatically happen if you have digital airline tickets.

since 2013 iOS 7 the overall look is the same we are bored, this update done nothing to change the way we use our phone for the better just gimmick things
Given how bad things were after the iOS 7 revamp and that it took a couple years for the OS to finally be awesome again, I'm very much again them doing another revamp.

Just keep making incremental improvements.

I personally don't care if there is an app or not for a specific function. What you call "major" features, may be minor items.
