The encode makes a difference too. H.264 uses more CPU than something like divx.

Don't play it in the browser - download .mp4 either with a TFF plugin or with Leopard Webkit/ClickToPlugin.

I've just done a test, downloading the 720P trailer for Terminator Genisys:

Plays back fine on 12" Powerbook 1.33, 768Mb RAM, Tiger with XBMC v11 (with Quartz skin).
I use the only thing that makes watching YouTube possible.... PowerPC Media Center which opens videos in Quicktime. I have downloaded videos in 720p and I still get the same chopping it plays fine for like 5-10 seconds than skips about 1-2 seconds, plays normal for 5-10 than chops again and so on.
As I've told you before, the GPU makes little difference to video playback on a PowerPC mac. You need OS X 10.6 and an Intel Mac with a supported video card to get GPU assisted video decode.

Even a dual G5 struggles with 720p YouTube as the plugins are inefficient.
I usually use RealPlayer as it's video playback is better than QuickTime's or VLC's

Why not try what I've suggested? If it works on a single 1.33 with FX5200 graphics don't you think it'll work on a dual with high end card?

Isn't "Front Row" the Apple equivlent to XBMC? can you provide me a link so I can install it?

Whilst I love Front Row, it doesn't have the efficiency of VLC, XBMC etc. XBMC is designed to be a full screen media centre but you can run it windowed (press \ key)
Download from here:

http://mirrors.xbmc.org/releases/osx/ppc/

When installed, go into settings and replace the default skin with Quartz - it's a more basic skin and uses less CPU.

THANKS! Downloading it now. I have a DP 1.25GHz is a basic skin really needed? LOL

Are you sure that buffering isn't the issue? Even the fastest computer will stutter watching Youtube vids on a slow Internet connection. Let's be honest, though. If you're concerned about streaming Youtube movies seamlessly, don't watch them on a PowerPC. You've been around here long enough that you should know what their limitations are. You want art? Buy a DeLorean. You want speed? Get a Lambo.

It is funny how it is the artistic designs of the PowerMac G5 and PowerBook G4 that inspired the Mac Pro and MacBook Pros for years onwards. Modern unibody Macs really do lack the character that Apple used to put into the design.

Well, I would disagree with the art part of that statement. :D
I wouldn't, actually.

Although I will admit the iMac G4 is an incredible design.

iPad on a stick??

That's not fair actually - I do appreciate the modern designs but I feel the innovation stopped years ago - everything now seems to be a refinement (ie thinner) on previous designs.
I think Apple got the world's attention, post beige boxes, but now the brand is established, they don't have to impress because their market isn't interested in beautiful product design - their market wants a newer version of a thing because only a loser would be happy with an older one :)

This is the fever that infects both the iPhone and the Intel Mac forums.

What would be funny is if Apple started stamping the back of their iPhones with the capacity of the model, just like on the box. Part of what allows this fever to continue is that these same people only shell out for the base capacity iPhone because they know there is no way for anyone to check. So, they can look like they're hipsters with the new product and no one knows they were to cheap to spring for a 64GB or higher model.

Stamping the capacity on the back would throw a serious spanner in the works for these people. :D

apple use to do that on iPod touches and iPads... I don't know if they ever did it on iPhones but now they don't it at all.

I think they did on the 3GS. I seem to recall that. But no, Apple wants to keep selling product.

Jacking up the price so these 'hipsters' can't afford the latest and greatest means they'll buy whatever they can, which is the lower capacities. Remove any indicator that you bought the lowest capacity and it's a win-win for Apple and those customers.

It's like buying the V6 Mustang (my friend actually did). No one knows you have a V6, but hey you get to claim you have a Mustang!

its funny since every single iOS device I own/Owned has been of the 32GB capacity heh (currently a Broken (screen needs replacing) iPod touch 4g and a iPad Mini 1st gen that I regret buying...) I didn't even know the iPod touch was 32GB (a Fellow Lighting collector and computer enthusiast sent it to me in exchange for some rare light bulbs and I just never asked about its capacity)

Don't get me wrong. I'm only speaking about those with this mentality.

They come down on you for not having the latest iPhone or Mac but then you find out they themselves only sprang for the cheapest, most bare-bone model Apple offers.

I'm not speaking about those who don't have this mentality. ;)

I'm pretty sure my 4S has it marked, but would have to check. I know my 3GS did.

To me, it was a no-brainer to go for 64gb on my 6.

Regarding the V6 Mustang-I drive a Lincoln LS, a car I absolutely love and IMO probably one of the best cars to come out of a Michigan-based company in the last 15 years. The LS came with both a V6 and V8. The V6 is sort of a joke because it's seriously underpowered for a 3600lb car. At the time at least, FoMoCo also tied a lot of trim and interior options to the engine. Not only is the V6 a pig(with no better gas mileage than the V8) but is seriously stripped down on the inside.

Externally, you honestly have to know the model well to tell the difference just by looking at it. Mine has the "sport" trim package which uses body-color accents rather than chrome-this was a V8-only option. Other than that, however, the left hand badge on the deck lid of the V6 models just says "LS" while the V8 says "LS V8." Again, not something you would know unless you knew to look for it.

Right! I went for the 128GB, for my wife and I both. But that's only because Apple does not offer an SD card option and so I always get the maximum they offer. I have no quarrel with anyone getting what they want, I just have a problem when I'm being dumped on by some fashionista who can barely afford entry to Apple's bottom tier.

Exactly!

Way back in 1995 or '96 when Ford changed the body style of the Mustang my friend wanted that as his first car. He'd always wanted a Mustang. Well, Mr. Fresh Out of Chiropractic School could barely afford to eat at the time so he finally fulfilled his dream by buying the V6 model with manual windows and plastic hubcaps. The only option he could spring for was a CD player and the damn controller was always falling off the dash. Years later the car was totalled by his secretary (who was driving it) before the final payment!

All of a sudden he was Mr. Big who owned a Mustang and therefore he was better than everyone else. The hypocrisy of it all and the easy surrender of a desire rather than waiting to truly get what he wanted was just baffling to me. I have literally waited YEARS for something I wanted so I could afford to get what I wanted.

It's this same mentality that exists in some of the forums here. I find the best riposte to it is asking the person which model they got. It usually shuts them up very quickly. And if it doesn't I then ask if they paid for it themselves.

PS. Love the Town cars!
