The packaging for the newer V-Moda's with the button make it VERY clear that it is the "button version". It's highlighted on the packaging and you can actually see it in the clear plastic, right next to the buds.

The packaging is VERY different from the old V-Moda packaging with NO button. An Apple employee should be able to make a quick visual check and tell you right away.

Sorry, but if I specifically ask for the v-moda brand earbuds with the button on them, and they tell me that they had it in stock, and that they should be getting more soon...that's clueless. The product has been out since the iPhone came out, and they should know that the dang thing on the shelves currently doesn't have a button. I'm not saying they had to know the product that hasn't come out yet, but it doesn't hurt for them to know what they are saying when they talk about a current product. And I get this all the time from the Mac Genius's. One got furious with me because I kept telling him that AT&T does not offer IMAP services to it's customers, and that is why I was so desperate to get my sbcglobal account to work with the yahoo push setup. He kept insisting they did, and that I should just set up my account as plan IMAP. Like I do sometimes when talking to my girlfriend, I finally just smiled, said "o.k., I'll try that" and walked away.

Also, I was just at my apple store. They don't have the new earbuds in. I picked up a stock set of replacements. I think I'm going to attempt modding the cable onto some other earbuds again. I don't like the sound of the button control on the v-moda's. The button from Apple had it right the first time. But I've already placed my v-moda order, so I'll probably give them a chance.

No worries. The people at my genius bar rock and replace my iphone with brand new ones out of the box instead of replacement. I feel I have become friends with some of them. Maybe it's just where you live.

I too use sbcglobal and have 2 accounts on my phone. Of course they were already setup in Mail so it was easy to sync. I can help you with that if you need it.

I'm thinking of either the v-moda or ultimatebuds hybrid with APple mic. The only thing that worries me is that Apple's mic hasn't really been tested over time so I'm concerned about the durability of Apple's design. Does anybody know the underlying construction? Is it prone to wear out?

thanks

V-moda with mic control

I have had three v-moda earbuds. The ones made for the iPod, the first version for the iPhone (mic only) and now the ones with the control button. I think the key to getting the best sound from them are, 1 - burn them in and 2 - do not us and equalization on the ipod or iPhone. That way all the elements of the music sound the best.

I have two days left to take back my newly bought Shure SE110s, which I'm impressed with but like the idea of the iphone integration. One question, though - how good is the sound isolation? I fly a lot and that's something of a priority...

Ok....24 hours of burn-in down, so here is the update:

First, I was in the area so I stopped by the apple store and picked up the splitter cable for the iPhone. I figure I'm gonna be flying soon and I'd prefer the fuller isolation of the E4C's on the plane, plus the bennie of being able to do a direct sound-sound comparison between different headsets. So, here we go.

1. Burn-in: Oh yeah, it is definitely not hype. Popped the v-moda's into the iphone, queued up a playlist, and it was a rather different sound profile. The bass somewhat settled down, and wasn't as boomy as it was in the beginning. The midrange and high range opened up...the muted-ness was much lessened, and I liked the profile more. You could still notice a bit of loss in the high range, but nothing beyond what was to be expected from this level of headphones.

2. Microhonics. Well, after being out and about with them for some time today, I have to say I was surprised that it just wasn't all that noticeable. I honestly expected it to be worse than it was. Now, I have to say I think the v-moda design would benefit from a thicker, more isolating cable, but as it is it is very acceptable. The only caveat I'd say is if you absolutely cannot stand microphonics in any way, shape, or form, then I'd say take it into consideration.

3. Match-up: Well, I ran these puppies against both my Shure E4C's and my E3C's...I didn't bother to do a comp between the stock iPhone buds because a) they don't fit my damn ears so it wouldn't be fair, and b) even if they fit they would come in dead last. My process (as scientifically asinine as it is) was simple: plug each set into the splitter, spend about a minute going back and forth with one on mute and one on sound, then spend the next minute with both playing to see the difference. Did this on a variety of different sound types (rock, rap, techno, pop, orchaestral, etc).

So, first comp I did was against the E4Cs. Honestly, not much of a contest. E4's are more open, with noticeably better mids and highs. The bass (not something the E4's are known for) was surprisingly close but not as good as the v-moda's. When played together, you could notice that the sound detail was more clear and the soundstage felt more open on the E4's. Now, this is not to say the v-moda's sounded bad....to my mind, considering the design, the target audience, and the price, the v-moda's did an admirable job. To try and number it....if the E4Cs rated an 8 of 10, the v-moda's to my mind would be in the 6.5-7 range.

Next, the E3C. This was a fun test, mostly because it was pretty damn tough. The only thing to me that really differentiated the two was that the bass response on the v-moda's were fuller. Aside from that, when playing the two of them together, it was really tough to tell them apart. Considering the only reason I ditched the E3's for the E4 was that the right earpiece came off the wire (ie - I was extremely pleased with them), this again speaks very, very highly of the v-moda's. Bass was much better on the v-moda's, and I'd have to say the clarity in the mid/high range was similar to the point that when I was focusing on it with both playing, it felt/sounded to me like I just had one headset on. In truth, if push came to shove, and I had to chose between the v-moda's and a "version" of the E3C with it's own built in mic/control unit, I'd pick the v-moda's over the E3Cs.

Phone use - Sound clarity was very good, and I didn't get any complaints from people I talked to regarding how I sounded, including a call or two made outdoors. The switch works exactly as it should, and I especially like the solid tacticle feel of it.

Comfort - I actually find them to be a bit more comfortable than the Shure's. Granted I'd put that more up to me using the triple-flange insert for the Shure's, but after a few hours with them in I'd end up with sore ears, whereas the v-moda's only left a very mild discomfort.

Bottom line.....anybody wanna buy a Shure MPA adapter? Also, if anyone has any questions or wants to me to try listening to them with a particular piece of music, just post it up and I'll oblige ya.

When did you order yours?

And also, your review has me thinking I may be asking for a refund and dealing with the apple crap phones until someone else makes something. I was initially skeptical of this earbuds because I expected them to sound like a pair of 20 dollar earbuds with a mic and button to jack up the price to the 100 dollar range. But the review posted above talking about the burn in and comparing to Shure's made me more confident that they'd at least be better than the white earbuds. But now I'm thinking my issue is going to be with a crappy implementation of the control button. You are right, apple's button design was genious. Why the hell couldn't vmoda just copy that? I don't want to search for the button when I need it, I liked just sqeezing the thick piece of my headphone cable when I needed an action done.

I ordered it Oct 4th. Had it ship USPS got it the 9th.

I think it is going to be a compromise for me. On long trips or extended use, the stock buds hurt my ears. I think it's going to be a compromise for me. The comfort outweighs the hunting....

now available at Apple store online

The new Vibe Duo headsets with call control button are now available on the Apple online store. The part number is TP637LL/A. The estimated ship time is 1-2 weeks, but I ordered a pair today and they shipped today.

What do i do if i want to use my $100 gift frok Apple online? theres $7 of tax that the gift doesnt cover, does that extra 7 bucks just get charged to my credit card?

:edit: nvm

Picked these up today at the Apple store in Manhattan Beach, CA. Plenty in stock.

They are great!! MUCH better than the stock, and better than my shure e2c's. The fit is perfect, and the cord is a perfect length.

The sound, so far, is excellent.

This is the only option i have seen now for a retail iphone headphone solution...

Bought the Vibe Duo's on eBay the other day:
V-Moda Vibe Duo

Total: Little over $66.
The guy has a decent seller rating, 99% feedback. Hes shipping USPS Priority with no tracking, which worries me...hopefully I don't get screwed.

I'll let you guys know.

I don't think you bought the one with the mic control friend.

I don't think you bought the one with the mic control friend.

Why not? They are the Vibe Duo...is there different Vibe Duo models?

Edit: Damnit - I thought the Vibe's were the original ones without the mic control, and the Vibe Duo's had mic control. Looks like I was wrong. I may have just bought a set of the old Vibe's. DAMN.

Anyone want to buy them? :) $67 shipped!

Bought them!

Just purchased them last night using my Apple Credit, which was a hassle.

I applied for the Credit when it first came available and was holding it till I found out if these were released then till the apple store had them. When I checked the value of my credit, it said $0.00. WHAT! So I called apple and they said I should reapply, so I do, not even thinking about the fact that my iPhone had been replaced, till I get to the first screen where it asks about the serial number. I think about it for a sec but decide to try anyways, but it says I don't qualify. So I email the address the apple guy said to use if there is a problem. While waiting for a response I get an idea, I think my applecare status page lists my original serial, so I visit it hoping it is still available, it is. So I use that number and boom, got a new credit. I send a email to the apple address given basically saying never mind.

ANyways, even though it said 1-2 week to ship, they shipped today with a estimate delivery of friday using the free shipping. Yay! Can't wait, never would have bought these on my own so hopefully I like these leaps and bounds above my apple in ear headphones I have been using for a few years now.

Ordered mine from V-moda on the 6th and they finally are getting delivered today! Woohoo! No more crappy rivet's for me!

Ordered mine with my $100 credit on 10/23 with it saying 2-3 weeks wait. then on 10/24 got an email that it was shipping out next day air. and today 10/25 i just got them! the button is very obvious on the box. YAY :D

~.

does anyone know if these work with normal ipods? or even better other mp3 players? or is it just the iphone?

i liked the feature on the apple headphones, but they don't fit in my ear and i much prefer the sound of my e2c's. i've been following the vibes since the first versions were released over a year ago. getting rid of the iphone though so i'm just wondering if they work with anything else, otherwise i guess it'd be a worthless upgrade.

thanks!

Yes, they should work fine even these new ones with the button.

However, if you're not using them with the iPhone, you should get the one without the button. They are going for like $70 from Amazon and stuff.

i think you misunderstood my question. i meant does the play/pause/next track work for any other ipods or the mic for any other cell phones.
of course the headphones will work with anything!

No, the button doesn't work for anything else. :)

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU like Mac OS X; en) AppleWebKit/420.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.0 Mobile/3A109a Safari/419.3)

I picked these up a couple days ago and love the sound quality for the size ofthem. Since I've been using these I've noticed mybattery draining faster. Is anyone else having this problem?

Got Them!

Just got mine about an hour and a half ago, so far so good. At the moment the sounds is at least on par with my old headphones and I haven't had what many think is a necessary burn in time yet. The mic seems to work well and the button works as expected, but will need to get used to it being there before I begin to really use it. They do weigh a bit more, but my neck can handle that ;) . So far the default "caps" seem to fit well for my ears, and they seem to be blocking out more sound and staying put better then my old ones, even with the weight.

Will test em more over the next few days. On a side note, the apple store said 1-2 weeks to ship and 5 days for delivery using the free delivery service. For me they shipped the next day after I ordered and were in my hands two days after that. They shipped from PA, through FedEx Ground.

Sometimes when you plug these in the screen does not go to sleep. The battery will drain faster than you can spell battery.
