The original jumped the shark the moment it was mentioned they eat people.

Yep, but these days the Food Network would want to get in on it and likely be willing to do an Iron Chef episode on it ... today Chinese from a little village and raised on rice and beer.

As a huge X-files fan, I thought it was pretty lame. They gave away too much information IMO and I didn't feel like I needed to watch the next episode at all. I probably will though, but I give it a meh rating.

Edit: the acting was pretty bad too.

I agree and why does the lead guy look like Pat Sajak.

I'll watch the next 2-3 episodes to see if it's worth sticking around though.

I'm also disappointed. I did notice the handshake and the hand gestures by Anna's right hand guy though. Curious if they'll work this in the story some how.

I'll watch the next 2-3 as well just to see where its going, if only to watch that Ori chick ... she looks FINE with short hair and I'm liking it. Old high-school crush I'm reminded of. She's got nice legs too!

Now where did FRINGE go on Canadian east programming??
Now I'm back to SGU and awaiting Caprica.

:(

The show got really good ratings. I hope this is just a 1 season thing - if so, I'll watch it. Most likely it will continue on for 6 years though pointlessly.

I hope things improve as well. So far the only thing that is bugging me is when the network showed the preview for the next episode, reveling that the Dale Maddox character/or just the face of is still alive even after Erika runs a metal rode through the chest. I mean I knew he was going to come back (always happens in the movie cliques) but still would have been nice to have kept it a surprise.

I also did not quite like the fact that too much was given away in this first episode. And the whole thing about the Visitors being here before and integrating into our society reminds me of John Carpenter's "They Live." That's not necessarily a bad thing.

I rather like it, but I thought it revealed too much info. I hope it's not like LOST, it's awesome the first season but it dragged on just to make more money out of the series.

I agree, they could have left that a mystery for a few episodes, and the pay off would have been well worth it. However, instead, they will keep pointless details a mystery for a whole season with no pay off whatsoever.

But I do realize people have seen the original miniseries, so I guess it would have been spoilt :(

I was very entertained. Thats just the type of escapism I'm looking for on a tuesday night.

The inside of the Visitor's ship looked like something from John Berkey.

I noticed that too. The original series looked so military, which didn't make sense considering reptiles need lots of moisture, warmth and vegetation.

Escapism = +
Story = - (hoping this improves. I'll continue to watch it to see how it progresses over the next 2-3 shows).

I still LOVE that movie! Rodney Rodder Piper of old WWF fame.
"That's like putting makeup on a pig!" lmao.

I'm not following??

can it be that episode 1 is FREE on itunes right now????

downloading right now.....

although it's on hulu next saturday anyway

Not even 3 hours did they let it be free.

sad. Looks like pure greed to me. It completely pointless to give it away for free right after wards. Much better marketing to give it away for free for 24-48 hours because the main people who are going to download it are the ones who missed it. Not the ones who watch it.....

Stupid stupid stupid. It is going to cost them money in the long run.

Well time for me to go to the old fashion torrent network and screw programing the DVR.

I just got around to watching it off the DVR last night and thought it was pretty good. I agree that they had to do something different since this is a remake. The first series kept the secret a little longer because no one knew what was going on and it maintained the mystery of their true intentions. However, it's genius to let the cat out of the bag right away and add the dimension of their being "visitors" who have been on Earth for quite some time as spies. This brings a whole new level of mystery to it and of course makes the social parallels to terrorism, discrimination, etc. etc. We'll see how they keep developing the story. Some parts definitely feel like the old version (the potential teenage romance between a human and a visitor) and some parts feel entirely new. I'm interested to see how they keep going.

Watched the second episode and I gotta say its getting better. Tonight's show felt like a filler but a step to a better show coming next week.

- Like the idea that the V's use mind fear tactics for interrogation.
- Like that the can resurrect their dead - but hoping there is a limit.
- Like the budding attraction amongst the human/V teen, and the admiration between Anna and the journalist/TV host: this looks like something that can evolve to be VERY interesting.

Indeed did it get interesting. Anna and the journalist fighting (one for personal gain and the other to view themselves as saviors), on the other hand the human/alien love (there are 2 couples), then we have the who-to-trust issue (see this in the priest and FBI agent and again in the Alien/alien relationships among those traitors).

So many themes, so little time. I also felt today's episode was filler, however, I also felt it was a stepping stone to a broader plot.

I never saw the original series, but I have the feeling the V's are no good:D (no I won't Google or Wikipedia the previous V show, i'll let it surprise me)
