wow,all this lack of activity doesn't look good for the XR. Ordered mine checked out and back in bed @ 3:04
Right!? I've been reading that the XR might be selling like hotcakes after all...and then it's just crickets in here.

Yeah, that sucks. Seems like most of the deals are usually for new lines now. However, in the feed in my Verizon app, there is now an ad that states “Up to $300 off iPhone”. Tapping that shows the latest models (8/8+, X, XS/XS Max). I didn’t see any more details about the $300 offer, but hopefully it means it’s coming soon!
Update on this... That $300 ad disappeared after the pre-orders started. It must just have been a glitch. :( I was hoping it was going to be a trade-in offer without the need for a new line.

Got partner a red 256GB XR which will be upgrading their iPhone SE. maybe now I won’t have to listen to how small the screen is vs my 8+. >.<

If you can wait, wait for Verizon to post their Black Friday specials. They usually have stuff that benefits current customers as well as new ones. I was really impatient and now I'm paying full price on an XS. My mom is on my account so we're holding off on getting her an XR until we see what the specials are going to be. I passed on adding an iPad when I got my phone, so I'm REALLY hoping they have a decent special on that for Black Friday (thats within the same vein of buy an iPhone, get x off an ipad)). Last year I think it was buy an iPhone and get an iPad for $99.

So, I see all sorts of conflicting information here and elsewhere regarding the ability to take advantage of the Verizon BOGO deals by adding a new line and cancelling an existing line. The Verizon customer service rep I spoke with when I ordered two new Xr's said I can do anything I want with my existing, out-of-contract lines. But I would appreciate it if anyone can post that they have successfully ported an existing number over to a new line, cancelled the old line and retained the BOGO credits. Thanks.

I would think they wouldn’t port your number... I thought about that too. I think easiest thing would be to just to cancel your existing line and deal with a new phone number. If it has the same phone number as the old line, I don’t know if they can differentiate. I’m really tempted to go in and ask, now.

I KNOW you can add a new line to your existing account and get the promo, but I have a feeling they won’t port your old number to the new line. I’ve actually got a chat going with a rep, I’ll check on this.

From my experience with the XS/XS Max promo, they will port non-Verizon numbers, but if the phone number you want isnt on verizon it’s a no-go.. though you COULD possibly port your number to google voice and port it back to Verizon (google charges $20? To port a cell number to google voice). Didn’t actually try this, but considered it - my mother in law ended up just switching to the new number.

Random question, when you did the bogo - did your order status in my Verizon show bow phones or just one?

I never saw the new line on my order - I could find it by looking up the order number and that was it. Not sure if this is “typical” - my experience with it was terrible... you can find my story spread across several threads a few threads back if you are curious.

Thank you. I’ll check it out as this seems to be my experience and it is frustrating. I have an order confirmation email with both phones but the only reference I can find in my actual my Verizon account is the DPP agreement, which, oddly, references the phone number for my Apple Watch.

In any event, at least it sounds like this is typical bad behavior.

I'm not sure that I follow this point. Maybe I should not have used the word "port" since I'm only talking about swapping numbers among lines on my Verizon plan. I currently have four lines on my Verizon plan (plus an assigned number for an iPad) and I am adding a fifth phone line as part of the BOGO Xr deal. When I activate the second new phone, I'll switch the numbers from an existing line and the new line. I would then like to cancel the old, existing line (which would then have been assigned the new number). I know that I can do all that, but it's not clear to me whether that would somehow void the BOGO credits.

It’s my understanding that this will not work. What will work is porting out the phone number to google voice ($20) and forwarding it to the new cell number until the next billing cycle or until credits start showing up and then porting the number back in to change the number back to the old number. I believe the line automatically cancels on porting.

Why this process works and not a simple number swap - I don’t know except to prevent the “gaming” of the system.

Thanks. What if I were to do the following:

1. Switch the numbers now between one of my existing phone lines and the number assigned to my iPad.
2. Cancel that phone line now, before the new phones arrive.
3. Activate the second BOGO phone when I get it using the newly assigned number.
4. Swap the numbers between the second new phone and my iPad.

Could that work?

I don’t know. I think you can switch sims between phones without issue. But I don’t think iPad lines are the same as regular lines - so a sim swap won’t work and I think the same rule apply a for switch numbers. That said, I am no expert. From my research the google voice method is the only tried and true.

So, you put the number you want to keep on the iPad, add a new line, swap the new line number and the one you wanted to keep on the iPad back after BOGO?

Seems like a lot of work if something goes wrong and they end up charging you for the second device.. im not sure what would happen in that scenario. It seems like it shouldn’t be a problem if they allow you to swap around numbers like that.

Holy moly Verizon really put me through the ringer on Friday. Tried to upgrade my husband's phone to a 128 Coral XR, and the lady on the phone assured me the order would go through (it did not, something about a glitch when trying to order on a secondary line, no idea what happened). 4 hours later still on phone with customer service the new associate we (my husband took over cos after the first hour I wanted to say screw it, and forget the whole thing) finally were going to get the phone, however it was going to be on my line, which currently has an iPhone 7 with a payment plan. called to check on things last night and the customer service rep let us know that they need the 7 back, but what we wanted to do was put the 7 on my husbands line (he's on a 6-plus) and put the XR on my line, both with payment plans. hoping we can just pay the 7 off and not have to send the XR back. I'm so confused about what's going on.

Wow, sounds like my experience. I would not give up a phone you didn’t intend to.. they need to fix it if they messed it up!

Plenty of availability on the XR. Needed to add a new line for my mother (she already has an unlocked iPhone 7+) so last night I added a line and ordered 2 XRs. One red 128GB and one white 128GB. Already shipped, will arrive on Friday. Looking forward to the new phone and the huge cost savings over the Xs Max (even more when you add it AppleCare+).

hmmmm, I ordered mine yesterday afternoon (black 128 gb) and it's still showing up as pending. Did you initially have an estimated ship date of 10/26? thats what mine is saying even though the website says delivers by 10/26

What’s funny is when I ordered I didn’t even notice a ship date (place order around 7PM EST). Didn’t expect it to ship but received emails and tracking numbers around 4am EST, tracking info confirms Friday delivery. It’s Verizon, you’ll probably get your phone on Friday but will never know.

I swear I would buy directly from Apple but Verizon always has these stupid deals that I have to take advantage of instead.

So I was wrong, what Verizon shipped out to me the other day was the two trade in boxes for my old phones. Received notification of my two XRs shipped out today via fedex for delivery tomorrow.

I see, I just got confirmation of shipping today with overnight delivery!!

FedEx managed to botch the shipping process, so two Xr's that have been sitting in the same city since last Friday just finally made it into the sorting process at their facility and likely won't be delivered until Monday. Fun first pre-order AND first Verizon experience. I feel dumb for complaining. About as dumb as I feel for having gotten excited about today. Haha.
