Verizon Confirms iPhone Launch for Existing Customers at 3 AM ET on February 3rd

As someone in the UK..I am amazed at the amount of news coverage this gets….a phone has moved to a new carrier, er…is this news? Its probably got more column inches than the mass protests in Egypt..a sense of perspective required people?

-Covenant.

I'm just as shocked as Covenant. Can you believe that today the Hollywood Reporter had a review of a Rob Lowe movie and ESPN.com has a story about football player Clay Matthews and his hair? It's almost as though these fan-oriented places are driven by entertainment and not hard news!

Wait a tick... MacRumors, the Hollywood Reporter, and ESPN are NOT Newspapers of Record, so I guess that explains why they aren't covering Egypt.

In regards to the pre-order i just got off the phone with verizon and got some answers. I dont know if anyone has posted these on here but just in case this is what i obtained.

1. When you pre-order the phone on Feb 3rd, you do not recieve it the next day or 2nd day, the date you receive it depends on what order # you are when you place your pre-order, they are beginning to ship them out on the
10th so if you are # 500 and # 500 ships out on the 11th then you would get it the 12th etc.

2. Best buy is going to be carrying the iphone 4 for verizon i know there has been other blogs out there stating they are not going to be carrying it. I was told directly from Best Buy tonight. They are also going to have a pre-order system starting the 3rd and they will have it on the 10th so if you have the
1st pre order at the store you will be able to go in and get it on the 10th.

Then why is Verizon preaching that their customers get first dibs? Who cares about a pre-order if someone at a store on the 10th gets it before you do? That makes no sense to me.

FUNNY that the countdown is in flash. Come over from the Dark Side, V.

Americans always have their own sense of perspective, which most often is totally different from that of people from other parts of the world!

Wow -- I don't think I have ever seen or more blatant generalization of the world populous: Americans and non-Americans. Yup, all Americans have the same sense of perspective, just like all non-Americans have the same, but different-than-American, perspective.

While we are talking about world population, we might want to consider that many folks on American continents consider themselves "Americans" and are offended by those in the USA who think they hold a monopoly on being "American". Should we be more specific here when referring to "Americans", or would that simple point just be a counter-example to your homogeneous perspective argument, because after all, from the perspective of some Mexican citizens, they are "Americans".

I dont know, i would think that if you order it on the 3rd from their "reserved phones" you would get it the next day etc.. that is the second time i was told that. I agree i rather just go into the store and get it if that is the case, if i am wrong please someone tell me but thats what they just told me.

EEEEEGad

IMHO, this is not about perspective of importance. It's about relevance to the topic which I'm interested in at a given point in time. At this forum we discuss Apple-related topics. Not current events that are happening across the globe.

Right. Like the 1 thousand anti Newscorp postings whenever news about "The Daily" is posted?

Trust me, it does not take much to drive MacRumors off topic. Anything that sparkles will do.

Now what was the topic here, I forget.

Mass protests in Egypt? I haven't read about it. Are they protesting the fact that after so many years, US citizens still have to wait for a Verizon iPhone? I sure hope they are protesting something important like that. Well, now that I am done reading my favorite tech blog for the day, I'm going to get back to feeding starving people, providing homes for the homeless, curing terminal diseases, and negotiating a permanent treaty between Israel and the major Arab nations. I hope you are doing something productive with your time. :D

Two reasons to pre-order:
  1. You don't have to wait in line.
  2. Your order will be in, so you'll get your phone even if they run out of stock at the in-person sales.

LAME LAME LAME

WHAT IS THE POINT OF A 3AM START TIME!! SOME OF US WORK, AND AREN'T JUST HANGING AROUND WITH COLLEGE BUDDIES PLAYING VIDEO GAMES.

This is just stupid. It'd be easier to be west coast. Then you just have to stay up to midnight.

I am going with this.

Even though I am not moving to red, WTF is with a stupid window @3am? I can say my mom has been waiting forever for this release; but count her out at 3.

Really, does anyone know why this is the time they chose? Server overload; so less ashamed?

As mentioned, us existing VZW customers get 6 days to order before the 10th. People on the 10th may be going home empty handed.

And I wouldn't sweat it. I'd be willing to wager that the phone will be in your hands by the 9th - the 10th at the latest.

Call a CSR right now and I bet they'll tell you that the phone will ship the very next day after you order it. Hang up call another CSR and get a different answer.

They chose to have the pre-order on the 3rd as sort of a "midnight release" type deal like a lot of anticipated product launches do.

If they chose a time zone based roll out then people on PST would complain if all the phones were gone. Now the people on EST are complaining. I'm sure there will be NO shortage of people waiting at the exact moment to get one.

For a midnight release type of promo, it's really the only thing that makes sense.

As for server overload and "shame" I think I've read that AT&T had their issues too. Don't forget you can pre-order on Apple.com too but, not sure what time they're going to start.

Great trade in deal they are offering, $285 bucks for a I4 32GB!

That covers the termination from ATT!

But everyone on CONUS would have a crack at say a 10am EST or even noon EST launch.

But if we Americans don't think of ourselves as "Americans" for fear of offending Mexicans, then what do we call ourselves? Mexicans got Mexicans. Canadians got Canadians. What's our alternative? USAians. UnitedStatesians? Redwhiteandblueians? Cowboyians?

Sorry -- it's our only option, and we're sticking with it! :D

so if I pre order mine on the third,

an non-existing customer can wait in line at a store on the 10th and get one before me?

Yet another rep says we will have the iPhone by Monday the 7th...every rep gives a different story.
