Hmmm... all the griping about AT&T and I do not see an issue on their sales. Wondering how many people took a good look at Verizon antiquated network and choose to "Think Possible" LOL

----------

It's not good news for anyone selling iPhones if Verizon is stuck with a lot of iPhones that they do not want. They might have to sell them at clearance prices.

and there iphones are proprietary for their antiquated CDMA network.

Verizon's problem is twofold. 1. The corporate commitment to Apple was, at best, a gross over estimation of their sales projections. 2. If their sales force is commissioned, there is no incentive for the sales people to push iPhones. If I am a VZ sales person and the ability to pay my bills is directly tied to the amount of profit I generate, I am going to push the most profitable items. THAT has nothing to do with a like or dislike of Apple. That's just the pure economics of sales. Maybe if Verizon paid their people a flat salary or hourly wage + a per unit bonus (regardless of brand) instead of commission the sales person would be less inclined to push something other than the iPhone. I am not sure what will work but as it stands now, Verizon seems pretty screwed.

Hypothetical sales person gets paid X% of every phone they sell.
The hypothetical payout breaks down like this:
$8 for every HTC One
$7.50 for every Samsung S4
$9.45 for every BB
$5 for every feature phone - not sure why they still sell these.
$4 for every iPhone

If rent/mortgage, gas, cable, car payment, etc. depended on the numbers above, what would any of us sell?

Verizon should just change the pay out structure to stop the sales people from streering customers to phone that pay a higher commision(at least in the short term).

iPhone sales are easy to make since most people coming in know exactly what they want.

karma (n) :
the belief that all of your actions will have equal reprecussions, affecting you.

Where did you even get that definition from? Karma is for after you die...

"(in Hinduism and Buddhism) the sum of a person's actions in this and previous states of existence, viewed as deciding their fate in future existences."

If they hadn't gotten rid of the early upgrade options, they wouldn't have this problem.

Verizon is making money hand over fist by fleecing its customers.

This!!!

In order to keep my unlimited data with them I could not use my upgrade. I wonder how many people had to do the same and were forced to buy their phone without a subsidy. My next phone is going to be purchased from the Apple store...or Amazon...or slightly used from ebay or craigslist. I will never buy another phone from a Verizon store.

The day they terminate my unlimited data plan I will switch to AT&T or Tmobile.

Many posters interpret this as bad news for the iPhone, but it can also be viewed as really bad news for Verizon, as more and more people are getting tired of their BS.

Yeah, I'm confused about that. I always see Verizon advertising heavily for their junky HTC phones and Motorola's Droid Bionic or Razr MAXX HD, not even the Samsung ones. Are the Verizon TV ads with all of the new Android phones they have partially sponsored by Motorola and HTC?

Not the point. Verizon was late to the iphone game period. Not until the 4 did they enter because they were too good for the original back in 2007. Well now looks who's laughing. Me. :D

"Too good" for the original? The fact of the matter is that AT&T was willing to be much more flexible with their terms due to their fledgling state that VZW didn't need the iPhone. I'd be willing to bet that VZW would be just fine without the iPhone even today.

Why can't we all just accept that there are *GASP* phones that ARE, in fact, superior to the iPhone and not all people who don't buy iPhones are some slobbering idiots who obviously must have been coerced into getting something else?

I'm more concerned about their terrible customer service.

why our wireless plans cost so much. We thought the carriers were to blame but it turns out it's all because of Apple's greed.

It was just a commitment to sell a certain amount of devices. If VZW wouldn't have pushed the Android agenda so heavily, maybe they would have met it.

VZW shouldn't make deals they can't adhere to.

ahm because there are no superior phones ? If you look at the overall image ?
-> Security : iPhone
-> Color reproduction : iPhone
-> ease of use : iPhone
-> build quality : iPhone, HTC One
-> ScreenSize : depends on usage, i like smaller not bigger (i am a one handed user)
-> apps : iPhone

very true, I went in looking for info on my first iphone (5) and whole sales team told me how terrible the battery life was, to get a moto droid etc.

battery life on the 5 isnt even bad.

Same old story.

I don't understand why people are still swayed by an sales team when they purchase anything. I would never by a car/diswasher/fridge/TV etc.... based on what the sales department tells me, I alway research before walking in the store.

It really is crazy....I've had several friends walk into a VZW store with money in their hand to buy an iPhone as their first smartphone and walked out with a Galaxy S3. It's clear that the reps are making an effort to sell other devices when they have a definite sale standing in front of them that needs no convincing to buy an iPhone. Usually you don't try to talk a guaranteed sale into something else.

For the love of...

Is it possible, the salesperson LISTENED to the customer and made an assessment based on their needs that an iPhone WASN'T their best choice???

Has anyone CONSIDERED that only recently iPhones have had LTE capabilities???

It's not a "guaranteed sale" if you end up buying something else.

If this is true, Verizon should be to blame. Every time you go to a Verizon store the sales people are never pushing the iPhone. If you ask about the iPhone, they immediately try to get you to buy a different phone. Their sales reps are obviously incentivized to sale other phones, not iPhones.

experienced that first hand.... they were pushing driod phones

And the geniuses keep training to push their employees to sell non iPhones....

I wonder why that is?

Could it be that people actually WANT something other than the iPhone? No, that couldn't be it! It must be all those Verizon reps that push non-iPhones to the gullible customers! Yeah, that's it!

You guys are like a broken record. Yes, I have the iPhone 5 (on AT&T) and I do like it very much, but you all that stick your heads in the sand and pretend Apple hasn't fallen behind are deluding yourselves. If Apple, and in turn Verizon, want to turn numbers like this around, they've got to realize that one phone model per calendar year isn't going to cut it. Apple has to get serious once again and start bringing innovation (there's that word again) back to the table.

Whether you or Apple want to admit it, consumers WANT bigger screens (and not the pathetic 4" screen the iPhone 5 brought to market that was so revolutionary ). They want more freedom to make their phones THEIRS (and not just by changing the wallpaper behind a grid of icons).

Say what you want, but I firmly believe if Apple brings the 5S out come September...and it's just a rehash of the 5 with a few new "revolutionary" bells and whistles (that Android phones have had for a couple of years now), you're going to start to see the slide quicken. They have to wake up and realize the Jobs Model doesn't work anymore. Google/Android and the OEMs that use it have brought their full weight to bare on Apple and have changed the way the industry (and consumers) work and what they want. Apple had better realize this soon, because folks, Steve Jobs ain't walking through that door to save Apple again.

What about the other providers. I am sure Apple has similar commitments to the rest. It was heavily rumored that Sprint agreed on a big allocation of devices when they started offering the iPhone 2 years ago. It seems to me that it should be typical issue among the rest, unless VZ numbers much bigger.

nice one apple
maybe verizon will offer some kind of special where they pay the ETF if you come from another carrier. i'll move from AT&T to verizon, just because

Not when you have ten other posts confirming the same thing: verizon reps are specifically chasing customers away from the iphone for commission purposes.

Offer me the same price and package as I have on Sprint and I will gladly switch my service and buy an iPhone on VZW. I'm tired of this BS "Network Vision" roll out...

There are people who watch those informercials on "paid programming" TV. That says something ;)

His numbers imply that apple counted on Verizon to be aprox 1/7 the of their revenue.
Kind of unrealistic.

Why would apple expect doubling of volumes from Verizon. Unrealistic too..

How does this guy know what the Verizon apple contract is?
