i kind of think that the verizon iPhone will bring them subscribers from AT&T, but I don't know how many users will buy the iPhone who are currently on Verizon.

Well in my circle of friends who are all on Verizon, we will all be purchasing it, without upgrade eligibility (ouch).

yea. i guess the iphone doesn't do it for me anymore. maybe if it were on sprint i'd consider it. but it just seems like android has caught up .

I'm using an Android device right now and I do love it. While the technology is similar (and even though Android seems to be far more capable when dealing with such tweaks as CPU hacks, etc), the iPhone is still superior, IMO at least.

I bet they are in full panic mode at Verizon. All they have to answer back at this price drop is 5X the 3G coverage, the option of unlimited data, better call quality, and an overall better ability to provide service.

Well played ATT, you really know how to play the game. Excelsior to you!

Verizon's network is solid. I read somewhere that the android phones on Verizon use much more data than iPhone users on AT&T, so I don't think there will be an issue.

not that I disagree - but it is not about how much data, it is about how fast ...

But I also don't think Verizon will be worse than AT&T. Will be interesting too compare those in big cities like NY where tons of iPhone users are and congesting the network.

Time will tell .... and probably pretty soon.

So the iPhone is on AT&T and Verizon, both very expensive. But it really needs to be on Sprint. More minutes, nights/weekends @7pm, free calling to ANY MOBILE, TRUE unlimited 4G and 'unlimited' 5GB 3G.

Sprint has always been an "also ran" carrier; they are innovative and this is the only reason they manage to snag the subscribers that they do. While I do believe that the introduction of a CDMA iPhone opens the door to see Sprint carrying same, I'll bet there is a rather lengthy delay until you see that happen. Sprint just isn't big enough for it to matter much to Apple in their overall marketing plan.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

Is att bigger than Verizion now or no?

Verizon's network already handles much more data than AT&T's network. People often forget about aircards, the biggest data hogs of them all. Verizon owns that market. I've been to a large number of conferences and trade shows and I can't remember seeing an AT&T aircard. They're all Verizon or Sprint.

Verizon is picky about their network. I would see them halting sales of the iPhone before letting their network crumble, in the very unlikely event of that happening.

I agree. The ONLY way I see the iPhone going to Sprint is IF Sprint and T-Mobile merge and then suddenly you have the Big 3.

I've been waiting ... biding my time until the Verizon iPhone. Jumped from Verizon to AT&T when the 3G was released and resisted the urge to go to the iPhone 4 when my contract expired last spring. I bought a used 3Gs to tide me over and now it looks like I'll be rewarded. We have two phones and Verizon reception is a lot better in our area, though I will say AT&T has definitely improved since we originally got the 3G.

Well I don't blame AT&T's spottiness and dropped calls on AT&T. While GSM seems to be more of a standard these days (worldwide), GSM is known to be extremely prone to dropped calls and spotty areas.

I think you are going to see similar speeds on Verizon, but just won't get dropped like a rock like AT&T -- that's probably the only major difference that would occur (unless it's LTE - which it likely isn't).

Here's why: CDMA is a bottleneck....each user can only enter their Network at about 1 mb max. That'll save their core. I've reached speeds of 5mb on my iPhone w/AT&T. So have others...read their posts.

Verizon has 400,000 more customers than AT&T

Verizon - 93.2 Million
AT&T - 92.8 Million (6.4 million of which are iPhones)
Sprint Nextel - 48.9 Million (which is why they offer such awesome plans)

Crazy to think that you can get a new iPhone these days at the same price as you could get a Blackberry Curve a couple years ago. Good thing for Apple!

Are there any Android Users on Verizon reading this thread? Would be great if you could post speedtest numbers.

on my iPhone I am getting right now:
227ms ping
1.31 Mbps Download
1.12 Mbps Upload

My mother has an old 8GB 3G and is upgrade eligible. I told her this weekend that AT&T lowered the 3GS price to $49. She asked me if she should upgrade and I told her to hold off. Sometime this year we'll likely see iOS 5 and my guess is that the 3GS will be largely (if not completely) locked out. I told her to wait until Christmas '11 and score a cheaper 4G which by then may be $99 for a 16GB and because of it's newer hardware have a longer life.

Yep, only thing that bothers me about AT&T is the latency.

Mine are similar (Droid X on VZW)

I used to be with Verizon prior to the iPhone. I do have to admit though, AT&T has been alot better in my area. However with Verizon, I never had any issues. Maybe it's time to go back to Verizon.

It's not Apple who is lowering the prices...it's the Carrier's subsidy...that we end up paying for in higher monthly rates.
