I think the iPhone is a fantastic device, but I have to say, the "iDon't" commercials are killer. From the "iDon't" facts to the stupid bubblegum music that Apple puts in their commercials, this was extremely well done.

Cool! Competition is a great thing. We will all benefit from a little heat from Nokia/Android/Siemens/Microsoft/HTC/BlackBerry/Palm/Whoever/Whatever. It will bring us even better, more innovative, iPhones - faster.

I love my iPhone, but I found myself watching this commercial going... "Yeah, that's right, yup, that one's right too, etc...."

Until somebody gets an App Store that competes with Apple, I am not going anywhere (even though AT&T blows here)

Yeah, kinda true. They do need to add some things. In time I guess?:apple:

Motorola sucks. I hated my KRZR. I would not be surprised if Verizon found a way to lock down and brand the firmware of this phone so that you could only buy ringtones from Verizon.

Good to see some competition.......and the ads are nice, hope this makes Apple start solving some of this issues. But than phone is an ugly SOB!

irrelevant

I have an iPhone and intend to keep it and update it every 2 years or so. All these commercials are not going to change that.

The one item Verizonhas is coverage in a lot more areas, however their coverage is for CDMA which requires phones that will not do well if traveling overseas. Most everyone is using GSM.

So all that nice coverage is only good for those with CDMA phones. We can not really compare the two networks since they do use the same technology and we can not move from one to the other without also changing phones.

No thanks, Ill keep my iPhone and for now AT$T.

While looking at the droid phone I find myself wondering: Why in God's name would you build a phone that includes a real keyboard (for those people that prefer a real keyboard) that is totally square and FLAT?

How is that going to be useable? Why put all that engineering into something that people will be cursing from day one? From the pics I've seen the Android 2.0 OS also includes a touchscreen keyboard.....they could've saved millions in engineering costs by just going with the touchscreen and not adding a ridiculously small, square, and flat keyboard.

The only easily typable keys on a small cell phone/pda format are off-set raised button keys. Good gawd what an idiotic design.

I don't understand how some people prefer touch based keyboards. I don't message a lot but I like written personal thoughts during the day. There is no replacement for a hardware keyboard, at least for me.... and that's the point, don't dismiss something as "idiotic" just because you don't like it.

I love my iPhone and am an Apple fan for sure - but I have been tiring of Apple's & AT&T's slow roll out of features. I am super excited about the moto droid and hope it exceeds expectations, not because I would give up my iPhone (because I wouldn't) but because as more and more competitors begin to bring better products to the market, it will force Apple to become more innovative and aggressive with the iPhone. There are many reasons why I wouldn't give up my iPhone today, but I would also like to see a true evolution of the device come July -- not just speed bumps & storage increases. It also wouldn't hurt if Apple could work out a deal with VZW, in NYC they are the best hands down.

The commercial was actually very good. Can't knock 'em on that.

Are you kidding? It spends most of the time talking about a competitor's product, and when it's over, you basically have no idea what they're selling. Truly a train wreck of a commerical for anyone who doesn't already know what droid is.

I feel the same way about physical keyboards. The advantage is what, exactly? that they're slower? or that the keys are smaller? Or harder to press? Honestly, I have to believe people who refuse to use virtual keyboards have never given them a fair shot because they're faster and more effortless as soon as you get used to them (which doesn't take long).

The commercial was actually very good. Can't knock 'em on that. The phone on the other hand.....*yawn*. If you really want a lot of the features they mentioned, Jailbreaking phones is brain-dead easy and opens up a world of customization options, tethering etc.
It was definitely catchy and got people talking but it contained very little information about the Droid phone itself including no image of the device.

I didn't say I prefer touchscreen keyboards. I was trying to point out the fact that the keyboard on this Droid phone is totally unintuitive to people who DO prefer hardware keyboards.

Look at a picture of it and answer me how someone is going to differentiate between the J or the K while in the dark or not looking at it, etc.

When I had my Blackjack II it had semi-offset and RAISED keys. I was able to type on it without needing to look at it if necessary. That doesn't look even remotely possible on the Droid.

'Droid goes after the nerd market

My take is that Android will be lucky to get 10% market share. It is a hacker's dream of a cell phone. However, it is just a matter of time before a cell phone virus takes off and starts killing droid cell phones in the wild. Apple has done a wonderful job on security where only one serious threat has come about which was handled quick.

My take is that Android is a disaster in the making. Also, there has been stories for over a year that Verizon was first selection for the iPhone's American carrier but the deal fell through when Apple wanted to activate the phone outside of Verizon stores. This could be their sour grapes.

I don't care about a removable battery never done that with the 10 cell phones I have owned.

You're right: many people either never have the need... or they've learned to limit their usage in order to prolong their battery.

As for me, I quite often come home from a day out and away from power sources, and swap in a fresh battery for the rest of my evening.

I also will put in a huge aftermarket battery while working and have big pockets, but swap for a thin battery if I'm more dressed up.

It's quite handy being able to do either. I just like having the option... especially on a smartphone. One of the newer iPhone power jacket cases fills some of the same need, though.

good commercial. effective and takes a hard hit at apple. i don't like the apocalyptic theme in the end, i think it's kinda over the top. but it's about time apple has some competition. they're [i'm sure] working at top speed on the iphone, but it can always be better and nothing like a good ol' marketplace competition to open the thing up a bit.

Its hard to get the idea from a picture, and I someone pointed out that its not the FINAL production version (that may be false) but either way I wouldn't dismiss it without using it. People said the same thing about virtual keyboards.

That was one of the features I did like with the other phones I have owned.

The power sleeves for the iphones are very nice as I have the power slider.
But daaaaaammmmnnnn does that things get warm when charging the phone.
If only the iphone had removable media....

I can see you have a great understanding of the situation. Actually, Verizon is a CDMA network and the iPhone is GSM. They're not compatible at this time (this may change). Read more about GSM and CDMA if you want to know a little something.

Poster's memory must go back a tad farther than your's. Verizon was offered the iPhone before release and turned it down. Obviously they did not choose wisely.

I don't know about the phone itself (personally I'm not interested in it) however this ad is really good. Microsoft could certainly take some lessons from Google and Apple. Hopefully Google's ad will make Apple take notice and offer some nice upgrades to the next gen iPhone.
