Is it a 22GB per line, or total?

I.e. if I have a family plan of 4 lines, do we all share 22gb before throttling? Or does each person get 22GB

Wondering about this change now. Costs will go up from $77 a month fot 16 GB with rollover data to $110 with no comp discount ...

How would this work if I switch from att? I've been with att since 2009.

I currently have a iPhone 7 plus 128gb.

Anyone know how switching carriers and doing monthly installments work?

Thanks

Depends. If you are on a contract you have to pay off the phone and the early termination fee. If you are not on contract you have to pay off the phone. After that you are free to switch. You can do it online.

If you were not aware your ATT phone will not work on VZW. You'll have to buy either a VZW phone or a SIM-free model. VZW might have a trade in deal otherwise you can get decent $ for it selling yourself to pay for the VZW phone.

Well I did it! Had a upgrade waiting since 2012, jumped off grandfathered UDP and chose new VZW Unlimited and my 7 Plus will be picked up today

Do u know if Verizon pays to switch over? Then I'd be stuck with them? It's monthly equip charge I got with att

- As a European, it's really strange reading about these things in America... "Just $80 a month"...
The same thing here costs $17 a month but with 50 GB tethering and no surcharges, fees, or throttling to be factored in.

- We have a carrier in Denmark that does it for $17.
Really strange conditions they have across the pond. :)
Well, I'm currently stationed in the U.K. and am on 3... I can get unlimited everything for £35 a month. Not to mention the UK's 3G is faster than most of Americas 4G/LTE and that really baffles me. I dread coming back to the States for cell phone bills again. My point being, AT&T, Verizon, etc. aren't any better than any other countries cellular network... but we pay out the @$$ for it. Why?
So glad i'm living in Denmark. 20Gb data + free talk time that I can use in 47 countries without paying extra. Price 28 USD :D
Because different things cost different prices for different reasons in different countries. What else is new about something rather basic that has been that way for ages when it comes to many things?

I am not looking for the cheapest service available. I wouldn't have a problem using a debit card to pay. For us, the best unlimited coverage with tethering makes it a great deal.
Thus the part of me saying "it might not be as good of a deal for some".

According to Verizon, you will no longer get that govt discount on this new plan.
Yep.... $110 for us. Sucks
Seems like someone switched earlier in this thread and still had their government discount applied.

They (T-Mobile etc.) roll the taxes and fees into the final price. Verizon stated $65 plan + $20 line access + taxes. How is that not clear?

What I mean is that they are totally preying on people who see t-mobile and other carries over unlimited at "X" price. The price they show you is the actual price you pay. Verizon has all of these other fees, so $80 is really misleading for the target market.

When I read the initial articles (which also did not know if it was $80 out the door), I was thinking about making the switch; however, this $80 plan is $30 more than my cricket $65 plan that is actually $65.

They mean its not by saying you can only use 22GB and 10 tethering, therefore its VZW's version of what unlimited is.
They did not say you can only use 22GB of phone data. It is unlimited phone data. You might be temporarily de-prioritized if the network tower you are trying to access at the time is heavily congested. Tethering is also unlimited although speed will reduce to 3G after 10Gb of LTE speed.

Anyone on att UDP going to switch now to Verizon or keep your grandfather plan ?

No, best talk to VZW about specifics like that. But, yes, if you buy a phone through them and finance you will be contracted. If you buy a SIM-free phone from Apple and bring it to VZW then there is no contract and you can leave at any time. You can finance a SIM-free phone at Apple BTW if you don't want to shell out $650+ all at one time.

Not honoring any employer discounts is shady but not terribly surprising.

I am disappointed that the XL, XXL and larger plans with the discounts are apparently gone. I am on XXL which is more expensive but wish I had switched to XL last night because it is less expensive than unlimited.

I keep trying to reach Verizon to see if I can still get on XL but it says they are outside of business hours. Agents are probably in training right now.

That's normally how these plans work and have worked before. T-Mobile did something different and special with including the taxes and all that, and they advertise that point specifically because it's not usual and different.

No, you aren't restricted to 22GB.

Has anybody gone over the 22gb limit yet?
I wonder how's the speed..

There is no "limit."

Does anybody have T-Mobile & actually like it though? I've never heard anything good about t-mobile in my area - scranton/wilkes-barre pa.

It seems its only good for major cities?

I've been with them for about 3.5 years and have no problems continuing to stay with them. As usual, YMMV. I rarely venture out of the city, but when I do, I'm still happy with the results (T-Mobile does Texas relatively well). Long road trips on interstates have been no problem as well -- SA, TX to the end of I-10 in Florida has LTE about 99.9% of the time. I-95 from Key West, FL all the way up to DC is the same. Not bad.

It's 22GB total

Basically, what BasicGreatGuy said.https://forums.macrumors.com/members/basicgreatguy.741785/

So there is absolutely no way to keep your government discount when switching to unlimited? This is a huge bummer.

According to Verizon website, there is a big disclaimer that my discount does not apply (mine is not government). I have 4 lines on 18gb plan (16gb plan +2gb bonus data + Carry over) for $157.89 after discount. This doesn't include 2 device payments. With unlimited it goes up to $194.99. I have never hit my limit but I do have family base and limit my 2 kids to 5 gb each. It was most attractive to give my kids unlimited use but it's not to be. I already pay $232.45 all in with discount. It would go up to $269.55 with unlimited. If my discount was in place, It would be a $.05 difference and I'd be all over it. May call to see if there is anything they can do over the phone.

the plan is not limited to 22GB.

Several of you need to actually read the tos instead of making up terms that are not there.

It is 22GB total then you are limited with slower speeds.

Ok, basically, it's unlimited but not unlimited LTE.

Not GSM... so no thanks. Verizon and Sprint can take a flying leap, for sticking to the CDMA sludge.

Additionally, this is why iphones have CDMA headaches and multiple models, so don't think that the CDMA argument is insignificant. Qualcomm owns the patent on CDMA tech and that's partially why (most of) the entire rest of the world uses GSM, except Sprint and Verizon in the US.

On the upside, with virtually every carrier offering an unlimited data plan now, this means competition gets better. Yay! Let the one-upsmanship wars continue!

Their LTE network is not CDMA, their legacy network is. Their phones come unlocked and will work with any other network as long as the radio bands are supported. Penalizing them now for that decision (which was a valid one back in the day) doesn't make any sense.

Incorrect. You now receive lower priority on congested towers. If there is no congestion, you're not going to notice it. This is how AT&T and T-Mobile do it as well.
