Verizon Introduces $80 Unlimited Data Plan With 10GB of 4G LTE Tethering

For those under the misguided notion that Verizon actually throttles (even though they say de-priorizitation) your data once you reached 22GB+, I just wanted to say that said misguided notion is just that, a misguided notion. I have reached 23GB of used data thus far, and I have not been throttled nor have I seen de-prioritization occur. My wireless speed has remained strong.

Give it a few months to see how it pans out. I doubt very few of the people who signed up for the new plan this past week have hit 22GB. I personally don't think it will be an issue, but time will tell.

So far, Verizon is the only one not specifying data "speeds", the rest of them specifies exactly that they may slow the data speeds.

I'm just being specific but the way Verizon worded it which in tech speak, is that you will basically be behind connections that haven't passed that 22GB threshold in a congested tower. Meaning, you'll still connect at full speeds, you'll just wait a few milliseconds to maybe a few seconds to get that data connection when you decide to click on something on your phone that will need a data connection.

I can NOT apply my current corporate discount to this Unlimited Plan but It's GREAT VZ is allowing the Military discount! I see your note says veterans also - does anyone know if VZ offers a military veterans discount as well (I am a veteran)? Thanks

Yes they have a 15% veterans discount for the new unlimited plan.

Safety mode wasn't fully implemented right in its inception, so this isn't surprising to me. I've seen a SIM popped into a hotspot (MiFi) & it pumped out over 100 GB and still no slowdown, so let's shhh for now. Find a way to track your usage other than Verizon

I wish they would have shhh'd but it's a bit late for that, they've already been pinging the **** out of VZ CS obsessing over the 10 GB hotspot.

I just realized this too. If you add a tablet as one of your lines, that tablet will get unlimited data, but only 10GB LTE. Which doesn't make sense to add it as a line in the account since you can just use one of the lines as a hotspot and avoid the line access charge.

And pay insane $$$ for an lte iPad. With two presses on my wifi only air I can connect it to my iPhone and turn on my iPhones hotspot without ever touching my iPhone. Agreed.

For those that have recently switched to this plan...

Have you noticed slower LTE speeds especially when using hotspot?

Since switching to unlimited my data 5 days ago, it has been unusually slow in the Denver/Boulder area. Great signal strength but slow Safari google searches, Spotify playback, siri inquires or getting directions in maps/google maps.

*Not a heavy user, I'm typically under 4gb a month.

Does this also apply if we have already had tablets on our line before the unlimited data plan launched? One of the main reasons I got this plan was so I could stream Netflix unlimited on my iPads.

I'm assuming if you moved to the unlimited plan, yes. It's still unlimited, it'll just go down to 3g speeds after 10GB.

$20 per phone + fraction of $100 + fees/taxes
So each additional person makes the fraction of 100 smaller:

2 people is 50+20
3 people is 33+20
4 people is 25+20
5 people is 20+20
6 people 17+20
etc

For speeds, I'm getting variations. One test at night showed 24 Mbps. This am, I see this:

Dictation now seems usable under Verizon. Where it was bad enough under tmo that we often waited for wifi to use it.

It's basically this:

For a single line, the unlimited plan is $65 with line access fee of $20 (or $40 if line is in contract), minus $5 autopay discount.

For shared/family account, the unlimited plan is $110 with each line access fee of $20 (or $40 if line is in contract), minus $10 autopay discount.

No corporate discounts apply aside from military/veteran discounts (and a few government ones it seems).

I waited for the online process to happen and my husbands military discount to be applied. 10 days later still not validated.
Walked into Verizon store and they were very busy porting new customers to Vz. The Manager took a picture of my husbands D214 and applied the discount - 15 mins total.

I called Verizon this morning and they said any tablets on your unlimited data plan act just the same as the phone does. They prioritize AFTER 22gb and only the hotspot or if you're using your tablet as a hotspot will throttle down to 3G after 10gb of use. This makes me feel better as I will use more data on my iPads than my phone due to netflix/hulu/etc.
