We are on the 16 GB XL plan at $72/month ($90 less 20% corp. discount) plus a free 6GB bonus data forever and rollover data, that's a far better deal for three iPhones, and we can tether whenever we need with any of that data (iPads, laptops, etc.)

Their new "unlimited plan" seems like more of a marketing stunt than anything else, IMO, especially with the tethering limitations. But I guess there's no other way to keep some people from using cellular data as their home network ISP...

No one would do that.

I have a single line plan and I have to pay $20.00 line access fee for my current 12GB $80.00 plan.
Call VZW tomorrow, it'll be 80 total (with the discount) unless you have a tablet/jet pack.

You probably have one line on an account level plan. It may be one line, but its not a single line plan.

Same here! I've been on UDP since 2011 but stuck at 450minutes. With tethering I'm paying double so I will be at Verizon store tomorrow getting all of the facts
I'm interested in what the details are myself, also to see if they're available for SMBs like mine. I'm under contract on my 4 personal lines, two of the SIMs are in iPads that my GF and myself tether too. I also signed up for the F&F option when it was available, 1400 mins plus 10 F&F is pretty much unlimited for me. I'm out of town for the next several days, far away from the nearest corporate store so I'll be tuning into the tech blogs to read the deets. Good luck! :D

There are people here in the MR forum doing exactly that (using their cell service as their home ISP) with their grandfathered unlimited plans, probably in this very thread… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Why though?

People want USABLE unlimited. Would you consider, say, unlimited alcohol at a bar, but after your 2nd beer, you have to fill your glass using a thimble of beer fetched from across the other side of the restaurant? Sure it's unlimited, but it's unusable.
Deprioritization only occurs when the network is congested. Most of the time, you won't notice even after going over 22gb.

My original plan was a single line plan 7GB for $50.00. I then upgraded to their 12GB plan for $80.00. Even on my original single line plan, it states in my contract, that there will be a $20.00 line access fee. I am making device payments. So, the new unlimited plan will end up being the same as I am paying now. $80.00+$20.00 line access +$36 device payment.

So for the plan with four lines at $45 each, is that unlimited data (up to 22 GB) and 10 GB of LTE tethering for each line or do they all share it?

Verizon just announced a few weeks ago that (I think in store only) they have a 7GB / $70 Single plan as well, that includes the line access fee. Not sure if they're still doing it or not. Either way I've already decided I"m switching from AT&T.
I bought the Verizon 6s from Apple full price so that it would work on any carrier. I'm never going under contract again.
Verizon, at least, doesn't have smartphone contract plans anymore, just payment plans for whatever phone you buy…

(I think they still have contract plans for tablets and MiFi hotspots.)

I'm curious if Verizon is still playing their "not purchased here" games, restricting which phones they'll allow on their network. A couple of years ago that was still a big deal.

Tomorrow, we'll see about added fees.

However, I'm with T-mobile and my deal can't be beat. Currently, I have 6 lines for $147.00 per month with unlimited 4g/lte and 10gb 4gb/lte tethering per line. A couple of months ago, tmo let you add 2 lines for free (I have to pay tax and line fees about $4.50 per line for each) plus I get the other 4 for $120. Also, for now, tmo has great coverage.

Tmobile's current Tmobile One plan sucks compared to mine. The tethering at high speed's extra cost kills it.

With Verizon going this route, Tmobile might come back with a better deal? Competition is good for the consumer.

Verizon giving away ice in the winter
Is this a ploy to match T-MObile. But wait T mobile is 4 lines for $160 and they eat the taX
This is just Verizon's way of saying it has an 'unlimited plan available
Worthless

T-Mobile doesn't eat the tax. Customers still pay taxes. The new T-Mobile includes all the taxes and fees into a single price. It is nothing more than slick marketing to try and catch the gullible into thinking that they aren't paying taxes on the new plan.

Can someone tell my why I would not want to switch. Here is my current plan. ATT UNLIMITED. Grandfathered in from so so so long ago. I pay 130.00. No tethering. Service is good. ATT keeps on raising costs by $5.00 every few months to get me to switch. I am waiting for a much better opportunity. Do I switch or no?

I currently have the same plan

So a tip for those of you who have ATT and don't have DirecTV . I just called AT&T and told them verizon started offering unlimited data and I was at their store getting info about their new plan and that I was tempted to switch, but I wanted to check first if At&t offered unlimited data (which I knew they did but only if you get Directv service), they said yes! I told them I don't really need Directv because I'm happy with my current tv service they told me that only to keep me as a customer they would make an exception. The guy talking to me contacted his supervisor and approved the exception and gave me unlimited data without having to sign up for DirecTV. I'm so glad I called. They're so gonna have to release this plan for everyone after Verizon's announcement!

No, if it doesn't have any line access fees it could be a MUCH better deal then current T-Mobile plans, and that's coming from a T-Mobile customer. If it has line access fees then it's more mixed, but still darn good. The throttling of video and VPNs kills the T-Mobile unlimited for me. With the Verizon plan it's not so restricted and you don't have the tethering limitations that make tethering worthless on the current "unlimited" T-Mobile plans. In any case, I'll be keeping my T-Mobile family plan since "unlimited" data really isn't useful to me if there's a tethering limit, and all of this plan still has the same 10gb 4g tethering limit I have now.
