Interesting.
Wouldn't be any more expensive than the $35/mo TMobile deal that ended up costing me $96/mo the last 3 months due of their inability to sort their billing out, and I'd get more data for the $.

I've been waiting to dump AT&T as they increase the unlimited (grandfathered) plan and have absolutely ****** international rates.

It would be interesting to see if Verizon can beat T Mobile's international plans...

Why though?
Partly what John.B wrote - I'm at a remote job site with CenturyLink DSL (10MB down/256k up, 100GB cap) and travel here several times each month, and that DL speed tanks when the log truck drivers get home around 4 p.m. My rMBP tethered to my Air 2 gets 30 down and 5 up pretty much all day long, and the speeds never dip.

And, partly because I'm already paying for the data… I never beat up the network, and rotate my SIM cards so as to not raise the ire of the VZW bean counters - I planned ahead when I AOLed a couple of lines, and took advantage of the opportunities to upgrade my handsets (some call them loopholes, like the Best Buy Network) to preserve being under contract - I'm good for 21 more months…

TIL that a checkmark means there's a footnote.

Verizon Unlimited includes 10GB of 4G LTE tethering per month, with data reduced to 3G speeds after the 10GB of usage.
TIL people suck at reading. And will actually write something not in the article at all.

The 10gb is for mobile hotspots, not for phones. Deprioritization 'could' start at 22 GB data per line. Deprioritization is not throttling to 3G. Still 4G speeds.

Read the article before posting.

People want USABLE unlimited. Would you consider, say, unlimited alcohol at a bar, but after your 2nd beer, you have to fill your glass using a thimble of beer fetched from across the other side of the restaurant? Sure it's unlimited, but it's unusable.
Fairly known approach in the "unlimited" type of scenarios. For example, many all you can eat restaurants will only allow you to order various things one portion at a time and not take an order for another one until you are essentially done with the last portion.
We are on the 16 GB XL plan at $72/month ($90 less 20% corp. discount) plus free monthly 6GB bonus data forever* and rollover data, that's a far better deal for three iPhones, and we can tether whenever we need with any of that data (iPads, laptops, etc.)

Their new "unlimited plan" seems like more of a marketing stunt than anything else, IMO, especially with the tethering limitations. But I guess there's no other way to keep some people from using cellular data as their home network ISP...

*Whatever that means.
Well, it might not be for everyone, but far for everyone or even most are in a situation like yours.

This should be illegal. I don't care if it's in the fine print.
What is?

I feel bad for the people still on grandfathered ATT. I was there for something like 6 years and dealt with their shinnanigans. The service was junk in my area, but I put up with it because it was unlimited. At the end of the day, I've been so much happier with even my 6gb of USABLE data. Great coverage on Verizon and this is going to be a great option.

$80??? For 10Gigs of data? How is that unlimited? I'm from Poland, which we often joke is a third world country compared to the west. Here with T-Mobile, I pay around $2.5 every 10 days for 3 Gigs on pre-paid! The package renews itself every 10 days, but if I used it before that, I just "manually" pay another $2.5 for the next 3 Gigs earlier. I don't get any texts or minutes, but who needs that when you have Whatsapp and Skype?

Lol, I thought their big push was slandering unlimited plans...
The nonsensical line I most recently heard on one of their commercials was: "Don't get limited by an unlimited plan!", then there's the new $55 + device payment plans they're hawking, the "most people use less than 5gb; don't get stuck paying for data you don't use!" commercials.
They need to pick a stance. It comes off as pretty disingenuous.

To add to that, everyone will be 100% LTE at some point soon. Give it a few years and 3G & 4G (non-LTE) will be gone.
Good Luck with that, more like 10 years plus. Wireless carriers are so far behind the times and IMHO rape the consumer along with the Fee's from whoever they are.

Hmmm, I will wait and see what the additional fees are. I am paying $73 now for 3 gigs of data (from the older Verizon plans) and would possibly consider if this isn't over $100 with taxes and fees. It would certainly make me rethink my dislike of streaming if I knew I could watch movies or scenes during my commute without burning through my data plan within days.
There's also now a 5GB for $55 plan that has a thread going here on the forum too. There's no reason to be paying so much for 3GB at this point.

You might wanna read before you actually comment. the 10GB limit is for TETHERING with the phone, not pure data usage on the phone

Because it's not for 10 GB?

$80.00 unlimited phone data which includes 10GB of tethering and is calculated separately from normal phone data.

US carriers seem to be the only ones who differentiate regular data and tethering, even though they are basically the same data going through the network. WTF.

Oh. My bad, I kinda wondered what those 22 Gigs limit was about. So you get 22 Gigs on the phone + 10 Gigs shared via hotspot, right? I can share those 3 Gigs for $2.5 without any additional costs :) And 30 Gigs would cost me $25.

I think the full HD streaming is almost worth getting back on unlimited, I mean who wants to stream or even watch 480 resolution anymore?

But none of the US carriers has truly unlimited data anymore, so what difference doesn't it make?

You get unlimited data. However, if you go over 22GB and are using a tower (at that moment) that is heavily congested, you may experience de-prioritization. And yes, the 10GB for tethering is counted separately from the usual phone data. ;)

So a tip for those of you who have ATT and don't have DirecTV . I just called AT&T and told them verizon started offering unlimited data and I was at their store getting info about their new plan and that I was tempted to switch, but I wanted to check first if At&t offered unlimited data (which I knew they did but only if you get Directv service), they said yes! I told them I don't really need Directv because I'm happy with my current tv service they told me that only to keep me as a customer they would make an exception. The guy talking to me contacted his supervisor and approved the exception and gave me unlimited data without having to sign up for DirecTV. I'm so glad I called. They're so gonna have to release this plan for everyone after Verizon's announcement!

Unless AT&T also starts to offer some tethering for their unlimited plan I don't see myself staying.

Can someone tell my why I would not want to switch. Here is my current plan. ATT UNLIMITED. Grandfathered in from so so so long ago. I pay 130.00. No tethering. Service is good. ATT keeps on raising costs by $5.00 every few months to get me to switch. I am waiting for a much better opportunity. Do I switch or no?

I would give ATT a few weeks to match. Personally I would have to wait until September/October because I have an ATT iPhone 7. Hopefully ATT will match in a month or so.

wonder what this means for us legacy UDP customers.
do we still get charged that $20 extra/month when our contracts are up?
Mine is up in October.

22 GB is not a limit.

As far as international comparisons and all that, how much does it cost to cover and maintain the network in your country? It's mostly a rhetorical question that essentially answers itself and demonstrates the inherent differences when it comes to it all.
