It's kind of comical. Verizon finally brings unlimited back and everyone is grumbling about the overall pricing. I get it that we all want something for nothing, but having the coverage Verizon does with the added benefit of not worrying about data (I have two kids with plans), is worth a slight premium to me.

I was on T-Mobile for a while, but the coverage just didn't work in my area. Compared to the XL plan, this is going to be well worth it.

It looks like competition has finally opened Verizon's eyes to what customers want. We all can thank T-Mobile for that. My guess is that T-Mobile will continue to innovate and drive the industry forward - which will eventually benefit us all.

So is being "de-prioritized" at 22gb than "throttled" by other carriers?

Yes, much better. What Verizon has always done, instead of steady throttling after the limit, is only throttle people over the limit IF and when there's congestion on the cell they're on, and then only while the congestion lasts.

Not GSM... so no thanks. Verizon and Sprint can take a flying leap, for sticking to the CDMA sludge.

CDMA was the first choice of countries and networks who were technically advanced at the time. Not only was it superior tech as far as fewer dropped calls, but engineers already knew that ALL 3G... even GSM UMTS 3G... would need a CDMA type radio.

Thus CDMA networks like Verizon and the ones in Korea and Japan were able to easily upgrade early to 3G using the same basic radios and cells, while GSM carriers had to redo their entire cell network to support WCDMA. Moreover, to do that, GSM carriers and phones had to support two types of radios at the same time, as its 2G and 3G radios used different technology.

Now both types have adopted OFDM radios for LTE 4G.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say anyone under contract still will pay a $40 line access fee instead of $20?

Hmmm. What happens when you have six phones and one tablet? I have an AT&T 15GB Mobile Share plan with my family's six phones and tablet. Is there a way to have the unlimited plan with all seven devices?

Also, all of the phones are still locked in the Next plan. What would happen if I wanted to change the carrier?

Unlimited Data - $110
Six phones x 20 - $120
Tablet - $5

To add to that, everyone will be 100% LTE at some point soon. Give it a few years and 3G & 4G (non-LTE) will be gone.

This might make me switch from AT&T solely for the tethering reason. It will be interesting to see if AT&T finally allows tethering on it's unlimited plan.

Additionally, I wonder if this will make AT&T remove the restriction of a TV package. I would love to have unlimited data again, but U-Verse is not available in my area, and our landlord does not allow for satellite dishes...

Wow. Att is raising prices on grandfathered customers or bundling their tv service and Verizon is finally opening up unlimited. This could make me jump ship. T-Mobile and sprint are unusable but Verizon isn't.

what do you mean by unusable ?

You might want to try re-reading the article. The 10GB is for tethering only. Regular data spedd is exactly like Tmobile. After 22gb you might get deprioritised. Tmobile doesn't even give you LTE tether speeds without an extra fee. Seems the tables they are a turning.
Your right I was wrong. Big red will find a way to rip off people!

That's still not unlimited... Just like in Japan, once you hit 7GB of 4G in a month (or 10 in the USA) your phone's data slows waaaaay down to the point of being useless. And then they charge ridiculous costs for an extra gig or two.

Yes it is unlimited. How hard is this to understand? While the data may get throttled after 22GB! (10GB is tethering), you're not paying anything extra. Did you even read the article?

It's 25GB I was wrong

You'll use more data and hit 25GB quicker
Yeah, that's the thing...TM's 480p streaming doesn't count against your data at all, so you can stream forever.
Verizon touts HD streaming, but like you say, it will make you hit your "depriortizing" ceiling much faster watching true HD content.

This is why I put all my HD videos on my iPhone or iPad locally!

People want USABLE unlimited. Would you consider, say, unlimited alcohol at a bar, but after your 2nd beer, you have to fill your glass using a thimble of beer fetched from across the other side of the restaurant? Sure it's unlimited, but it's unusable.

Verizon just announced a few weeks ago that (I think in store only) they have a 7GB / $70 Single plan as well, that includes the line access fee. Not sure if they're still doing it or not. Either way I've already decided I"m switching from AT&T.
I bought the Verizon 6s from Apple full price so that it would work on any carrier. I'm never going under contract again.

I don't.

Yea enjoy that $300 bill + taxes and fees.

I assume you mean 180 (100 for data plus 20/line) plus taxes and fees? Unless your including equipment, but you go ahead and find one carrier that doesnt require you pay for phones.

We are on the 16 GB XL plan at $72/month ($90 less 20% corp. discount) plus free monthly 6GB bonus data forever* and rollover data, that's a far better deal for three iPhones, and we can tether whenever we need with any of that data (iPads, laptops, etc.)

Their new "unlimited plan" seems like more of a marketing stunt than anything else, IMO, especially with the tethering limitations. But I guess there's no other way to keep some people from using cellular data as their home network ISP...

*Whatever that means.
