When I got my 4S last year, all I had to do was turn it on and connect to my wireless network. It ended up registering itself. After a few minutes, the 4S was working and my old phone was turned off. Never had to call Verizon or anything. As far as I know, your choices are:

1) Turn the phone on and connect to WiFi
2) Connect to iTunes if you don't have WiFi access
3) Call customer service to activate
4) Stop into a store to activate

Thank you for this helpful post. Many options to activate and it sure sounds easy. Possibly, I could just ask my Siri to activate herself? (ha, ha) ;)

Hey, I know there was some talk of activation some pages ago, but just to throw into the mix, called my local Verizon office today to ask about activation.

After checking with her supervisor, the woman told me that iPhones must be activated thru iTunes on an Apple page obtainable starting tomorrow when one searches for "iPhone 5 Activation" in iTunes. The page is not up and running yet. She said either use that page or activate in person at Verizon or Apple Store.

Has anyone else heard this?? I find that difficult to believe.

I'm planning to go to my local Apple Store tomorrow afternoon and have my favorite employee activate, transfer all settings/contacts/Apps, etc via iCloud from my iPhone 4. They'll be teaching 15 min iOS6 Workshops and have plenty 'o staff on hand.

There's a video on the Verizon site about "how to activate a 4g device"- http://support.verizonwireless.com/...ice/How-do-I-activate-my-4G-device/index.html

Good news for those still waiting (as I was until moments ago): FedEx just picked up from a warehouse in Memphis and Verizon started sending out notifications. Looks like they are still burning the midnight oil to get these out.

I didn't watch the video but when I called VZW earlier (it was more of a concern that Verizon programmed the sim card to work for my main line and not the dumby line), they told me that all I need to do in order to activate the iPhone is just turn off my old iPhone and complete the iPhone set up (via Wifi). Basically it'll activate when Apple says "Activating Device". No extra steps required.

I hope I am included in that. I have even called verizon a few times and those poor people assured me that I was showing on schedule to receive my phone on 9/21. Many people on here have tracking numbers that ordered their phones after I did. Verizon hadn't charged my card but I am hoping that I receive my phone on time. There was nothing wrong with my order and I have just lost hope... ugh...

really...does the work with porting a number?

Seems a little hard to believe that you have an iP5 en route via FedEx w/o your credit card being charged. Hey, I believe in miracles but I also know I can't count on them. Keep the faith.

I am in the same boat, ordered on 9/14 and i've seen posts with people ordering after the time I ordered and received my conformation order, and they still got their tracking number before me. Haven't even been charged yet, I hope I get it tomorrow too :(

I ordered mine directly from Verizon, and I called FedEx today to have them hold my packages (it won't allow you to do it on the website) since I won't be home for delivery. I was told yes, without any problems at all, and he entered it into the system. Then a very short while later, my local FedEx sorting called me to verify the two tracking numbers they'll be holding for me. I plan to pick them up at 8:00 am on my way to work.

Call 1-800-GOFEDEX, press 0 to talk to someone, and tell them you will not be home for delivery tomorrow and that you'd like to pick it up from the sorting facility (Note: this is NOT your local FedEx store - that's a different kind of "hold for pickup" I believe). I don't see why they'd want to waste time trying to deliver something, if they know you won't be there.

I think you simply lucked out, as I tried your suggestion calling FedEx (as you instructed above) several times, and every agent I spoke with said that FedEx has got a strict contract agreement with Verizon agreeing not to release any Verizon iPhone 5 packages at any FedEX distribution center (sorting facility or otherwise) until at least ONE delivery attempt has been made to the final destination 'shipping address' on the package.

I pre-ordered from AT&T a few years ago and didn't get charged for like 2 weeks after I received it. I did call them and they said they showed on their end that it was paid for. I was thinking I got away with it, and then the charge came through, that was on iPhone 4.

LOL. I know. I don't think I will be getting it but if there are still processing orders as someone just said then there is the slightest chance. If there is no news by tomorrow morning I am going to just take the kids to chuck e cheese and run around with them all day.

Ok, so I've notice that most of these comments are coming from out West (shipped out of Memphis), New York (shipped out of Jersey), and Texas (also Memphis). Anyone here in the Atlanta area or southeast in general? My order has said "In Transit" from Coatesville, PA all frickin' day.

Does that mean it's being driven here? Why wouldn't they just fly it to Atl from Memphis - that would take like 30 minutes. There seems to be a lot of knowledge about FedEx and their complicated logistics formulas. Can anyone share any insight into this?

I'm not stressing yet, but I've read through a good portion of the.... 5364 posts on this thread and don't believe I've seen anything about deliveries from Coatesville, PA.

I hate to say this but I feel better knowing I am not alone. It just stinks that everything said 9/21 and now I may not get it on 9/21. I am so impatient.

BTW. I love breaking bad!

What's taking so long Coatesville! Cutting it a little close.

Has anyone with an original delivery data of 9/26 received a tracking number or update on their delivery date?

I received an email a few days ago stating my order location and that my order had been completed, but there would be no further update while I was in pre-order status.

(business customer, btw.)

Well I finally did get my tracking number around 1:00pm. i was so happy I felt like a kid at christmas!

About 2 hours later I hit the iphone jackpot again when I found out I had won an iphone 5 through a drawing at my company they entered everybody into. I don't know the details on that one, I think it'll be a gift certificate or something, but I'm assuming it'll be for a 16gb one and i need a 64gb. I'll probably give it to my pops - he did pay for college after all!

Hey, mine left Coatesville two minutes after yours, I wonder where they were going, especially considering I live south of PA. Guess we'll know in the morning!

so excited

well, my phone has made it from Memphis to Berkeley, MO - wherever that is...
Next stop - my doorstep!

Interesting, mine left Memphis headed to DC at 4pm...

So what I did was ordered a pair of BEATS BY DRE SOLO HD's... the beats are coming to my office, the iphone going to my house. I'll have someone at home tomorrow to pick it up, I might be pressed and make them bring it to me.

My confirmation email says delivery 9/21 but my status says ships 9/21 ommggg which is?!
