I placed my order on apple.com at 8:56am on 10/1. The card was charged right away but the pending charge has since been removed. The order is still processing. I called local stores today and 2 of the 4 stores I called have 32gb and 64gb models in stocks. I am waiting for either my shipment or the a local 16gb. Shipping estimate is 10/31-11/6.

This is the part that confuses me most. There are many people on this thread who ordered the 16 gb iPhone 5 before 9/28 (i ordered mine on 9/25) but the person who ordered it on 9/28 gets it first.
mansoo0609 I am right along there with you. I ordered the exact same date and I have the same ship date as well. This is why we get frustrated because as a customer you feel like your left in limbo. You call to find out, your told nothing, you check your email, it says nothing, but we are too far into this to turn back.
You hear people getting theirs and you're thinking, maybe something is wrong? WTH is going on here? I've been saying it seems like this is more of a lottery or something lol. Hope we have a winning ticket really soon cause that's all we have to go on.
Ordered on the 25th. I checked my card, no pending payments for it. I received a text from Chase if I authorized a payment to a phone company, and it had the exact same amount as the iPhone charge, so I authorized it.
Now I don't see any charges in my account and my Verizon shipment date has been moved to 11/2. What's going on...

Johnny5 I appreciate the comments but I am not on edge as I've waiting this long without any problems, but I want to apologize for using the wrong terminology of the words ""PRE-ORDER" and from this point forward I will gladly use the expressed corrected term "ORDER" in order to avoid further conflict.
I feel it is not that important as most people on here understand that I am using a term that the stores web site, employee's and Verizon receipt illustrates. I'm not creating the term here. But, since it seems to offend you that I did not state pre-order for iPhone 5, I will acknowledge that I only "ordered" the iPhone 5 because the order was placed after the 21st of Sept.
My "order" was placed on the 25th of Sept with a shipping date of Oct 19th. Folks I stand corrected and apologize for any confusion lol. WOW

You may wanna call verizon just to make sure all is still OK, I may be mistaken, but I thought I read somewhere before that if it says "Payment not taken" that it means something is not right. May as well call to be on the safe side. Good luck.

Tomorrows gonna take forever.
I just got off the phone with them. They specifically said that it's not because of the delayed payment. And my card will be charged after it's shipped.
He also mentioned that the phone can arrive sooner than the given date, and other than that he just mentioned that they were having stock issues which caused my shipping date to get pushed back. Unbelievable, whats the point of preordering when it gets pushed back when there's going to be mass availability anyway.
I suggest calling around all your local stores every day to ask if they have any in stock. The ones around me have been getting random shipments in. Keep your preorder though just in case.
