I live in a rural area and I have always had good luck at one of the local Verizon corporate stores in a neighboring town of 30,000. When the iPhone first came to Verizon I got there at 4 a.m. and was the second person there. At 8 when the doors opened there was a total of 12. They had plenty of stock. Each time since for iPhone and iPad they had plenty of stock and not more than 2-3 waiting. SO, I always encourage people to find an out-of-the-way corp. store and try there.

I'm thinking Verizon is going to be an especially good bet this year for stock because they aren't advancing peoples' upgrades and all the original Verizon iPhone buyers don't become eligible for upgrades until 10/07.

There hasn't been a hold or authorization yet on my credit card, and it is a Visa. Should I be worried? I used the same card last year for the 4S, and that worked fine.
 
I had the same problem, I called verizon and they said my order was on hold. They had to do a bunch of verification stuff and they forced my phone into order. When the phone ships, they said it will charge my card and there will show a dispute which they will contact me again. I'll still be receiving my phone but I would still have to go through a process that will correctly charge my card.

I was able to change the billing address of the actual account to the billing address of my credit card. Hopefully that helps. I also sent them an email about it. Not too worried, we'll see when they respond. Hopefully I don't screw anything up.

You can talk and use data on all Verizon 4G LTE devices. That includes the new iPhone.

Unfortunately not true for the iPhone 5. See any one of five or six threads on this forum to see a link to the official Apple announcement on that...

I had/have the same concerns. I initiated an online chat with one of the Verizon sales people and asked these same questions. The person very clearly stated that if I buy the unsubsidized iPhone and activate it with my existing line 1) I will continue to receive my grandfathered unlimited data plan and 2) there is no change at all to my contract, including the length of said contract.

I can understand and relate to the anxiety you express though because there are so many different answers to these questions floating around. I am tempted to take my new iPhone into the Verizon store and activate it with one of the staff there to verify that I am not paying an admittedly stupid amount of money for an iPhone, plus a pointless $30 activation fee only to find I am also going to lose my unlimited data plan or to change my contract length.

This is one of the most logical theories I've read on here today. :p I think I may just swing by the store Friday morning on my way to work to see if they have the iPhone I want and if there is a line. Otherwise, I'll just wait for my pre-ordered to come in from Apple in October. If I do get lucky, I guess I could always cancel my phone coming from Apple.

2 1/2 days since preordering and still no confirmation email, however I do get the "We received your order and it is in process" message when checking on the order.
 
If it's the same as last year, cards won't be charged until Tuesday (they charged my card 10/11/2011 and then took the money out officially on 10/13/2011; I got my 4S on 10/14). You also won't get a "shipped" email until Tuesday or Wednesday, possibly even Thursday; however, you should be able to use the reference trick that's been posted to find your phone on UPS or FedEx on Tuesday evening.

In other words, no need to worry if you haven't had your card charged, haven't received a shipped email or can't find your shipment yet on UPS or FedEx. It'll happen within the next few days. :)

It is expected that your order progress will not change until Wed (when phones get shipped). Do not worry.

But when I check pre-order status, it does say "order processing.". And when I log into myverizon acct, it does state that I have ordered a device for my phone that needs to be activated. But it's still nice to know what my actual order number is...

I registered on this forum just to comment on your post. I thought I was the only one that didn't get an initial email confirmation. But when I check pre-order status, it does say "order processing.". And when I log into myverizon acct, it does state that I have ordered a device for my phone that needs to be activated. But it's still nice to know what my actual order number is...

Call Verizon they can give it to you. I still haven't gotten my confirmation email or a ship date and I ordered around 11:58 PST on the 13th. Just shows my order is processing
