2 1/2 days since preordering and still no confirmation email, however I do get the "We received your order and it is in process" message when checking on the order.

Same for me also. I made 2 orderes right at 3am. I got 1 email for the 2nd order. I never got an email for the 1st order. I just called Verizon and they had my order.
 
verizon's return policy is 14 days with a $35 restocking fee. if, for any reason, i'm unhappy with my iphone, i would rather have purchased it from apple, where i have 30 days to return it without a restocking fee. so if there's a hardware issue, or if i'm being nit picky about screen color temperature or how clicky/mushy the home button feels, i'm free to return to apple hassle-free.
You can take an iPhone bought from Verizon to Apple and they will fix that for you/give you a new one. I had to return my 4S because it was getting crappy signal and the Genius just gave me a new one. It doesn't matter where you bought it. It is an Apple phone.

I have ordered a 16gb iphone 5 which now I'd like to exchange with a 32gb one in the apple store. I wonder if there is a concept of 'exchange' in the apple store - vs just retuning and buying a new one?

Well, I switched to Verizon as a month-to-month customer last wednesday so that we'd be able to pre-order first thing friday morning, and that apparently worked as I got my confirmation email for $1365 for 5 iPhones at 2:59am.

So far, I'm 100% wishing that I had done the order through Apple.com even though they didn't come online till nearly an hour after Verizon did. The first Apple.com customers already got their shipping confirmation and can track their phones, whereas ours probably won't go live till Thursday or Friday. - Furthermore, I know everyone says 'don't worry about it, you'll have it by Friday', and while I hope that's true, I've talked to two regular Verizon reps and a Verizon Online Store rep who all told me that it came down directly from the top in very clear terms that the phones would not start Shipping this year until Friday morning and that we could expect to have them delivered in the U.S. between the 24th and the 26th. - I hope that they were wrong and that everyone else on here is right.

Yeah, in all, just wishing I had done it through Apple. Same price, possible early delivery.
 
I always buy direct from Verizon. I bought the iphone 4 on preorder and got it 1 day early. Then the 4s we got the exact day it came out. Verizon is always very good with shipping times.

In both cases above the phone was shipped 2 days b4 the street date. So expect Verizon orders to all ship by Wed.

Those reps are stupid then. They are dead wrong. Verizon would have a PR mess if they didn't get preorders to customers on time. If your tracking info says "Expected Ship Date: 9/21/2012", you will get your iPhone 5's on 9/21. If you want reassurance, just go look at last years Verizon iPhone 4S Preorder thread. Same thing happened, everyone got their orders BY the "expected" ship date. No later.

Yep. From what I've heard, Verizon is great to order through, but their tracking system is awful and doesn't show anything other than "We have received your order and it is in process," and "Your order has shipped!" Other than those minor flaws, everything else about ordering through VZW is great. Their website is smooth and quick, your preorder is on time, you get your shipping a day or two before release day, and that's it. I will probs end up going through VZW again next time when the iPhone 6 is coming out in 2 years.

Go to your local Apple store when your iPhone 5 is delivered and keep it in box, do not open it. Just go straight to the Apple Store and ask them if you can exchange it. It all depends on how many black iPhone 5's they have in stock.

I have yet to get an email confirmation of my tracking number.. that's fine, I figured we wouldnt get them until Wednesday. This is okay as well.

So I went online to order myself a case, because I know for a fact the 5, 6 cases they will have at the store will sell out [shell/holster, silicone, girly ones & otterbox Defender]. So I purchased the Otterbox defender online and spoke to the customer chat rep on VerizonWireless.com. No biggie.


I asked when the phones actually start shipping out, and she says "they should ship the 21st".

Now I've worked in plenty of office settings, and know the difference between SHIPPED, and DELIVERED. Are they meaning to say they will all be SHIPPED on the 21st... or they will be DELIVERED by the 21st?
 
This doesn't make sense to me, I ordered on VZW before midnight and have a confirmation email at 11:55pm but my expected ship date is 10/05 for a 16GB white.

In the past I always pre-oredered through apple.com, this year I'm switching from AT&T to Verizon so I used Verizon.com to avoid any new customer sign up hassles. Placed my order at 3:03am EST without any problems ;-)
On Saturday morning I checked my order status and they had a UPS tracking # posted, UPS.com has no record of that package. I've checked verizons order status page since and it says we're experiencing technical difficulties.
Has anyone managed to get a tracking number?
 
So 3 days ago I checked my order status via Verizon using the Pre-Order confirmation number and my order came up as "Processing" with expected delivery date of 9/21. So yesterday and today I wanted to see if there is was any movement so I did the same thing and now it is coming us as "invalid Pre Oder Confirmation number or last name", so I figured it is probably being tracked by the actual order number now so I put that number in and again "invalid order number or last name". Now I am a bit worried that my order has gotten lost in the shuffle or something. Any other people have this issue?

If you're not happy with the phone, you'd probably be better off just selling it for a profit. Then you could just pay full price for a different phone.

If there is something wrong with the phone, you could just do an exchange with no restocking fee.

Mine is currently saying expected ship date is 9/21/2012 vs my confirmation email that states delivered by 9/21/12. If Verizon pulls this **** I'll drop them like a sack of potatoes and take my business back to AT&T.

Hey Everyone,

I preordered the iPhone 5 at 7 A.M. on 9/14 with my Verizon Business account and to my amaze I was still guaranteed to receive on the 21st. :D Verizon may have separate inventory for business accounts?

Anyways, my current status is "Awaiting Inventory" and delivered by date is showing 09/21/2012. Both tracking number and Courier are, of course, both N/A at the moment.

Below status shows the following:

Due to overwhelming demand, there are delays on this product.
Expected Delivery Date shown above.

But didnt have ANY information on the 64gb [I ordered black], or the white. So I'll just hope to get confirmation or tracking by Wednesday, but thanks to you,a s well as WillTaylor for helping out

ive spoken to a rep that told me similar to what you said, and a different rep that told me i will get it the 21st, i was confused asked to speak to a supervisor and she confirmed it will be there on the 21st if my email said that. She said apple is the only company that gives them their stock before the phone launch..

Most other preorders they do ship on the launch day. She said they arent going to redesign their website preorder status system (though it would be easy IMO) to make it say delivers instead of ship for one or two preorders a year.
