Got mine about 3:05...Took me a few minutes because I was trying to have it shipped to my work address, but it wouldn't let me process it because it kept asking for a "company name", but didn't provide a box to type it in. So I just called it a residential since it has to be delivered by 3 anyway.

Also, what was up with the insurance options...None gave any kind of explanation as to what they provided. Would it just be better to get a Applecare plan in this situation?

Verizon has, once again, crippled a great device. Verizon has removed speed, multitasking, wide international coverage, but retained a high price of entry (min of $30 data plan). You keep blindly defending Verizon....

"But I don't care about multitasking voice and data".

"But I don't care about fast speeds"

"But I don't care about free wifi"

"But I don't care about international coverage"

Before you reply with the obvious remark of "But i care about making a phone call", you can't argue that CDMA is inferior and a step backwards.

Can you kindly take your pessimistic attitude somewhere else? If you are that unhappy then don't buy the damn phone. No one really cares. You are on a forum with people that have been waiting and watching other people enjoy a top quality phone that they could not have. Now, the day people have been waiting for has come and you feel the need to tell them that their decision is unwise.

I personally feel that the majority (which is probably more than 90%) of people that want the iphone do not care about voice/data nor do they care about unlimited data. In fact, ask random people how they feel about CDMA technology and they won't have a flipping fart what you are talking about. Everyone I talk to, including my parents who are in their late 70's, say they bought the iphone because of its' ease of use, quality, and because of the ability to use it as an ipod also.

Either way you look at it, each phone company has its flaws. I have been with verizon, using crappy phones for 6 years because they are rock solid where I live (Chicago) and ATT is not. If I lived where ATT had better service then I would have had the iphone long ago. All I can tell you is that I cannot call hold a conversation with my father on his iphone - I have to call his house line. Most people, like myself, are excited to finally have access to something they have wanted for a long time.

In Houston, my parents could rarely if ever make a call. That's two major cities with major AT&T problems. In both, we've had few issues with Verizon. Now in Orlando, AT&T was awesome, and Verizon was pretty crappy. It really is dependent on area. But from my personal experience, Verizon has better coverage overall.

Do your parents live in a metal building? I ask because those type of buildings are the only places in the Houston area where I get weak AT&T signals. Other than that, almost always full 5 bars and no missed calls for me on AT&T.

Well have a AT&T regular phone and my 2 year contract was up. I was hoping for better rates from Verizon but I get less. AT&T is $39 with rollover minutes and $25 for 2Gb of internet and it can talk and surf at the same time. I guess I'll just stick with AT&T for a iPhone

I agree...with both of you. I'm happy for those VZ customers that will finally get to experience the iP4. But as an AT&T customer, the VZ shortcomings are unfortunate and beyond just minor annoyances.

Who cares about being able to do both when with AT&T some people can't do either!

"But I don't care about fast speeds"
Who cares about speed when you can't connect with AT&T at all.

"But I don't care about free wifi"
Who cares when there are other free wifi's around where AT&T has one too.

"But I don't care about international coverage"
Who cares when they don't leave the country.

Who cares wether CDMA is technically inferior to GSM. It is not a step backwards if one works and the other doesn't!

Some people would rather have a phone that makes calls 100% of the time and they don't get that with AT&T where they live.

Why is it so hard for some people to understand that other people have different priorities and understand that while AT&T might be great were they are it SUCKS other places???

Obviously you care. If you didn't, you wouldn't have responded to NoExpectations' post.

So much for competition. The prices are EXACTLY the same as AT&T.

Basically the ONLY reason to switch is if the AT&T service in your area isn't good. Because if you live in a place where both AT&T and Verizon work well, then AT&T is a slam dunk.

You get faster speeds, the ability to be on the internet and take calls (very important for tethering/hotspotting), and you get rollover minutes which are terrific.

Is there any actual advantage to Verizon for those who don't get dropped calls anyway?

Maybe since AT&T doesn't work well in some major cities because of the high demand? I don't know. I love AT&T.. never going back to Verizon unless I had to.

Another major concern perhaps someone on this forum can answer:

Since there is no SIM card slot, how do you handle buying or selling your used phone?

I was able to sell my 3GS last time because presumably the buyer simply could put an AT&T sim card in the slot and be ready to go. Similarly, if my iPhone broke right now, or I just wanted some other model, I could go on ebay and get a used one and pop my SIM in and be fine.

So, with Verizon, do you have to go to the store and ask the technicians to make any changes when the account associated with the phone changes? How does that work exactly on CDMA?

Thanks!

You can switch handsets either at a store, or through their online account access. To do it yourself, you just log in to your account on Verizon, go to the switch handset option, enter the ESN (Electronic Serial Number) of the handset, wait a bit (few seconds to a few minutes, depending on network load at that time), and power up the phone. It should authenticate on the network and boom...it's done. This of course can also be done in store, if you don't want to do it online yourself.

$50 for unlimited data plan with 2gb of MiFi. How would you track the hotspot usage?

Just got my conf. email, says this:

1)APPLE IPHONE 4 32GB -$50.00 NE2 discount +$11.78 tax
$249.99
(1)FEDEXSTDOVERNIGHT3PM
$0.00

ACE number 1309
Looks like im taking off of work tomorrow!!!!

You guys think it'll get here in one day even though I live in Hawai'i?

I think that they will ship these phones on the 8th with overnight shipping. This will ensure that the pre-order customers receive their phone by the launch day. Most will probably get it a day early (the 9th) but often times overnight shipping can take two days to get to the outskirts. I really don't think Verizon wants pre-order customers receiving their phones on the 11th while new customers are walking out with theirs from a store on the 10th.

Now, I HAVE NOTHING TO BACK THIS UP - it is just my two cents.

Wow, US mobile prices are really a bad joke. I pay 45EUR for unlimited voice, unlimited messages and unlimited data. But I guess the US prices have something todo with the fact that you always have to buy a phone from the carrier directly.

Amazing. And you can roam with no change in prices over an area the size of the USA? no? Oh sorry. Yeah if my cell phone plan limited my travel to my state they'd have to cut the price for me too.

Line 1 Purchased Items
(1) APPLE IPHONE 4 32GB -$100.00 NE2 discount +$73.12 tax $199.99
(1) FEDEXSTDOVERNIGHT3PM $0.00
Line 1 purchased total $273.11

WTF VERIZON!!!!!!

Sales Tax in Los Angeles County 9.75% which should be close to $20.00

Where did they get $73.12 in TAX

Wow...I don't suppose you could have said that without insulting me but then again I guess I haven't been on the internet long enough to understand that most people that use it are D-bags.

Anyway to answer your question, I vaguely remember clicking one with no result and didn't care to spend that much time figuring it out because I was half asleep, it was 3am and I had to be at work this morning. I saw that I had 30 days to decide so I figured I would make a more educated decision within that time frame since there was no mention of an applecare plan on the site anyway.
