So..AT&T are you really still going to try and charge people $15 a month extra to tether iPhones with a cord? To use the limited amount of data that people already paid for?
Verizon has not said a darned thing about service pricing - don't count on this to be free.

Major feature flaw (in the humble opinion of a current iphone user)

"However, as a CDMA device, you won't be able to use your 3G internet connection and Voice at the same time."

I feel a new ATT commercial coming on ;)

The hotspot is a nice shot by Verizon. That will make ATT counter or lose some ground. Did we hear anything about an unlimited data plan for Verizon?

Competition, we have waited so long for you. :D:D:D:D

not really since the speed is as slow as molasses. if it wasn't for the data limit you could dump your ISP and get cable speeds via AT&T Wireless. CDMA is as slow as ADSL

Some questions, will mobile hotspot come to other carriers? Here in Sweden we don't have Verizon etc so....

Also does it have pre-installed Verizon crap on it?

i thought that too at first... but no simultaneous voice and data is a deal breaker for me.

Plus, ATT is great in my area and hopefully they will allow hotspot now as well.

If AT&T is great in your area I don't see a need to switch at all!

How do apps like Pandora work if there is no simultaneous voice and data?

If you're listening to Pandora, are you able to receive SMS and phone calls?

So lets see how mant of those "This will NEVER happen!!!!" people will show up and eat some crow. For all the mean spirited posts and flames all I can say is HA HA IN YOUR FACE!

I have to agree. There is no such thing as 'future-proofing', even in the world of gadget predictions.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

Niiice...now I can drop my MiFi dedicated account. I'm going to save a bunch of money moving to Verizon now!

Sell AT&T iPhone 4 = covers ETF
Buy new ViPhone
Drop AT&T $140/month
Add V line @ $50/month
Drop MiFi @ $70/month

Total win scenario for me!

No offense, but what, exactly, do you think the market for used AT&T phones is? The market is likely going to be flooded, I would think.

Warming up my mini-van to power break on my driod!!! Feb 3rd....we're going to take down Verizon's phone lines!

AKA Verizon cripples CDMA iPhone with limitation of no voice and data.

I like the voice/data thing myself, but 90% of my time is spent in a non AT&T 3G area and so even if I wanted, I can't on AT&T. I think their are people in the same boat and this won't be a problem.

HELLO! im pretty sure if you use the wireless hotspot on verizon you will lose calls when you are on the internet. Hotspot or not! thats the DEALBREAKER!!!

I'll eat my words on Apple never producing a CDMA phone but that is a nightmare

this basically makes the iOS notification system useless. You will get flooded with notifications each time you get off the phone.

I'm not sure I would ever want to trade that off, along with Verizon upping their upgrade limit from 12 mo to 20.

I've never heard this version of the argument, one that is already pointless enough in my personal usage of a phone. There is rarely an event when I am like wow I really need to get a look at something on the internet while I'm on the phone. Maybe I just am not on the phone enough or something for it to really be a big deal.

Now, in terms of notifications, I'm pretty sure that they will still come through even while you are on the phone. I know my Incredible will beep as a new text message comes in while I am on the phone. I'm sure e-mails are different, but do you really get so many emails during calls that it is important that you see them the instant they come in? If so then I guess valid argument, but I think you are over-stating the impact greatly.

I personally won't be getting an iPhone for Verizon, I have both an Incredible through Verizon and an iPhone from work, so I'm all set as it is. But once my contract is up on the Incredible, I couldn't say I wouldn't at least consider getting the next iPhone on Verizon. In my experience Verizon's network performance far exceeds that of AT&T in terms of consistency and reliability.

Im one of the few (apparently) that have good service with AT&T, and have had a wifi hotspot since the iPhone3G days.

Meh, good news to some. Should free up some of AT&T's network for me

Can't wait for the Verizon iPhone 5

I can't wait for my 3GS contract to end in July, just in time to get the Verizon version of the iPhone 5. :D

i thought that too at first... but no simultaneous voice and data is a deal breaker for me.

Plus, ATT is great in my area and hopefully they will allow hotspot now as well.

If you cant get your iPhone 4 to be a hotspot on AT&T - it is your fault.

All this is old news people, get out from your cave from time to time

Where's all the posters with "Apple will never make a CDMA phone", or the "iPhone will never be on Verizon until LTE"? Wow I guess they are hiding under rocks...LOL

Their mouths are full of crow right now... Won't be able to speak until they finish their meals. ;)

How do apps like Pandora work if there is no simultaneous voice and data?

If you're listening to Pandora, are you able to receive SMS and phone calls?

As far as phone calls......when I was with a CDMA carrier it would just push the call to voice mail if I was using data. Not sure about SMS.

The hotspot is so full of win; aside from missing calls when in use. I wonder if ATT will answer?

You will NOT miss calls when using the hotspot. If somebody calls you on Verizon during an active data connection the connection is paused and the phone call goes through like it normally would.

No mentioning about plans which is the real interesting part - and if there is another chip in there otherwise as soon as you travel to Europe it is a dead brick... (or a mini iPad WiFi only)
