Even if they manufacture a CMDA version of the iPhone they still have to go through negotiations to get it to verizon, this is what pisses me off sparks of hope that come from just the manufacturing of a CMDA version they have to go hrough so many other stuff first.

One assumes that they wouldn't design/build a CDMA iPhone without prior agreement with Verizon.

A nice side benefit will be that it will completely crush the Android eco-system.

The Android ecosystem is already starting to collapse upon itself (much like the PC market place did) due to price cuts, competition, short product life cycles. We heard about the Droid for what three months before it launched and it's already EOL by Verizon.

Does anyone else think this whole Verizon iPhone thing is starting to get like the Apple Tablet rumors? Year after year there's some new revelation that THE RELEASE IS IMMINENT!

some of it is marketing, some of it is faking out the competition. tablets have been around for years. it was only last year that the Bill of Materials came down to where they were profitable

So tired of this non-story!

The iPhone is not coming to Verizon.
I bet you were one of those who said that Apple would NEVER switch to Intel. And considering how old the rumor was for Apple to bring a phone to the market to begin with, I bet you were also one of them who stated they'd never bring a phone out.

If Apple sees a benefit to bringing the iPhone to Verizon, you better believe they'd do it. What Verizon did was purely business practices of the time. Back then, the manufacture didn't control what went into the phone, the network did. Things are much different thanks to Apple. Verizon clearly wants the phone now, it is just whether or not Apple can get what they want to allow it on their network (i.e. control over every aspect of the phone).

The iPhone will be on Verizon, one day. It would be absolutely stupid for Apple to continue to only allow AT&T to sell it. AT&T is the worst network, period. The Android is exploding in the market and will continue to do so. Apple only has one choice and that is to bring the iPhone to Verizon and Sprint.

LTE is still at least a year to two years away from being a major factor in this. Apple could bring out a CDMA iPhone just in time for the Christmas season and then bring a LTE iPhone some time next year when it is in a better position to sell. LTE phones are pointless right now, especially in non-major markets (i.e. 90% of the country).

i'd guess that if it's really coming to VZW then the negotiations are done and it will be announced at WWDC. then FCC certification and then it can be sold. probably as early as september.

Froyo just came out but no phones on it so far, maybe by september. November or December is when Gingerbread is supposed to come out so Apple would have to release earlier to get the customers

Oh look! More iPhone on Verizon news. These have to stop it only fills MR more of pointless threads.

Verizon immently having the iPhone has been said ever since September 2007. So far nothing and it'll stay that way for a long time.

It would not be in Apple's best interests to not announce it at WWDC if it knew it was going to drop later this year. With the onslaught of awesome Android devices out now and coming, many people will be locked into contracts and unable to purchase the iPhone unless they go retail.

Apple, its as simple as this: Id love nothing more than to give you even more money than I do now for a Verizon iPhone. Give me confirmation of a VeriPhone this year or Im getting an Incredible now.

Beyond the technology limitations of the Verizon's network, Apple will not go their out of pure spite.

Don't be surprised to see the iPhone on the other networks, just to rub it in Verizon's face.

Doing something that would dramatically effect a companies bottom line out of "spite" would be a wildly stupid move, even for Apple. All Steve cares about is selling more iPhones while keeping the user quality similar across networks. Verizon has offered to allow Apple (and other platforms) to do what they want - offer a non-branded phone.

My only guess is Apple is waiting for Verizon to develop their CDMA technology to allow simultaneous voice and data connections, something Verizon claims is coming before the switch to LTE.

I'm starting to think the Verizon iPhone will happen sooner rather than later - and purely as a defensive move by Apple. If Apple continues to ignore the Verizon network, then the Andriod is going to gain a significant foothold.

Many people seem to prefer Verizon for their "superior" network service, blah, blah, blah.

Will :apple: make an exclusive iPhone model for the CDMA market?
So when you travel abroad your home CDMA country you will be using it like a crippled iPhone...nah
So if they indeed release a CDMA version only, they will have to keep a separate iPhone team for that.
I do travel with my iPhone, and most of the countries I go to have GSM, and CDMA is very poor or non existent.

Will :apple: make it so it works in both networks seamlesly? Big package, too much battery drain, heat, weight, etc...
Unless they have something new that really makes a difference. But it seems to deviate from what they typically do, keeping it simple.

Will :apple: force the CDMA market into the next level? 4G, whatever it is called....nah... the carriers will define when they will...

I think that :apple: will juice out every single iPhone new model release opportunity on a 2 year basis, so they will do some performance/specs boost on a yearly basis, and major upgrades on a 2 year cycle.

I am interested in reading your thoughts.
Specially from those who know in details about the new celullar technologies, 4G, H-something...etc...

The only nice thing that I can think of a Verizon versionis to hear my BlackBerry friends talking about their Verizon iPhones...:D

Sounds to me like a good rumor for Verizon to float just to keep people from jumping ship to the new iPhone.

They just like to keep that carrot of an iPhone coming to Verizon right in front of their subscribers. Don't switch now -- it'll be any day now....later this year...just a few more months...

has anyone actually seen a CDMA iPhone yet? Logic dictates that if one were to be made availiable as soon as November we'd know because it would be undergoing testing now...and I doubt iPhones without GSM sim trays would go unnnoticed by anyone

I guarantee Apple will bring an iPhone to Verizon. When? I don't know. It will absolutely support CDMA, as well as LTE. Why CDMA? Because according to some reports (http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-20005120-94.html), LTE will cover about 200 million people by 2015. While that is quite a bit of coverage, it's not 100% coverage and the phone will have to drop back to CDMA for compatibility reasons. Also, Verizon doesn't plan to have LTE for voice up and running until 2012 (http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/27/verizon-looking-at-non-unlimited-plans-for-4g-data-will-use-lte/). It's going to be strictly data until that time. How else would a Verizon iPhone use voice? You guessed it, CDMA.

In the end, Apple was developing an Intel version of OS X for quite sometime before they let us all know. It's improbable to believe that they don't have a CDMA version testing somewhere in their labs somewhere. Anyone want to guess which particular employee isn't testing it?

Hasn't stopped virtually every other phone manufacturer from releasing a CDMA version of their GSM phone.

So if they indeed release a CDMA version only, they will have to keep a separate iPhone team for that.

No they won't.

I do travel with my iPhone, and most of the countries I go to have GSM, and CDMA is very poor or non existent.

Yeah, and those who need to travel abroad with their phone will either pay the roaming fees and/or stay with the GSM version.

I'm getting sick of these rumors. It gets my hopes up only to be crushed when it (more than likely) doesn't happen.

But why would Verizon want to offer a phone that's a "tiara-wearing, digitally-clueless beauty pageant queen"?

As yet another "no one", I'll wait until after WWDC and go AT&T, regardless.

Why do so many people here think that making two versions of a phone is so impossible or costly? Further, why do so many people here think that making an iPhone that is CDMA with a GSM international SIM is so hard? There is the Blackberry World Edition on both Sprint and Verizon that is no bigger than a Bold, so it doesn't add more size, heat, worse battery life, whatever the claims are. Further, RIM also manufactures handsets across both technologies all the time. You see the exact same Curve or Pearl at all 4 carriers.

While people continue to talk about stopping Android, the other thing no one mentions is that the far-and-away market leader in PDA's is still RIM and their Blackberry. Many companies use Sprint or Verizon, and when they issue employees a cellphone, they end up on a company plan. Some of these businesses might migrate over to the iPhone platform if it were on their current carrier. It's not.

Regardless of what this community thinks of Android, it's doing damned well. And it will continue to do damned well. Apple WILL have it's iconic phone on every carrier. It might not bei n 2010 as all the rumors say, but make no mistaking that even if they carry out their contract with ATT to fulfillment date (2012), it WILL end up everywhere. Period. To believe otherwise is completely against all logic and good sense.

I believe LTE chipsets being developed are backwards compatible with both EV-DO (CDMA) and UMTS/HSPA+, meaning Apple could essentially design one phone for both networks.
