I hope this turns true for a few reasons:

1-Apple would have their heads out their a$$ and make more money.

2- The "know it alls" on macrumors can then shove their heads up their own a$$ for saying it will never happen.

3-we can move on to different rumors and different topics.

Yes, This come from a verizon consumer, but I went with a company that can give me service in my house.
Sadly, AT&T cant.

I believe LTE chipsets being developed are backwards compatible with both EV-DO (CDMA) and UMTS/HSPA+, meaning Apple could essentially design one phone for both networks.

I wouldn't know, but you're probably right. We do know that China Unicom uses WCDMA, so that has to mean something.

I bet you were one of those who said that Apple would NEVER switch to Intel. And considering how old the rumor was for Apple to bring a phone to the market to begin with, I bet you were also one of them who stated they'd never bring a phone out.

Nope, you would have lost that bet.

I'm one of "those" who after viewing Apple's roadmap in 2000, bought a lot of Apple stock at $14.50 (before the split).

People here tend to mix things up. Apple makes more money selling the iPhone on their selected networks, than Motorola, HTC, Palm do across all of the networks.

So unless Verizon is willing to relinquish complete control over the iPhone (no commercials, all promotions coming from Apple) and give Apple the revenue sharing that AT&T does, don't expect to see it.

Apple is in the drivers seat.

So is the "analyst" a buddy of the guy who claimed Ballmer is presenting at WWDC. I automatically disbelieve anything sourced to a so called analyst.

This cuts both ways. If they float a rumor like that, they run the risk that customers will avoid purchasing other phones, like the Droid Incredible, or some other Android phone. And when the iPhone doesn't come out as rumored, they run the risk of losing those customers who may have purchased an android phone had it not been for the rumors.

I'm in the camp of looking at getting a Droid Incredible, but don't know if I should given these rumors. That's why I bring up the conundrum.

Sounds to me like a good rumor for Verizon to float just to keep people from jumping ship to the new iPhone.

They just like to keep that carrot of an iPhone coming to Verizon right in front of their subscribers. Don't switch now -- it'll be any day now....later this year...just a few more months...

I can’t wait to trade AT&T’s horrible customer service (but reliable connections, in my city) for Verizon’s horrible customer service! And it will be nice not to be able to map restaurants while on the phone with a friend. Voice and Internet at the same time is just plain rude. Better to figure out what’s nearby, call them back, then hang up to search some more. Repeat.

So tired of this non-story!

The iPhone is not coming to Verizon.

When Apple originally approached Verizon before the iPhone launch, the CEO of Verizon told Steve Jobs and Apple to take a hike.

Cingular (now rebranded as AT&T, but really has nothing to do with the "old" AT&T) took a gamble and it paid off.

Over three years later we're still talking about the iPhone.

Beyond the technology limitations of the Verizon's network, Apple will not go their out of pure spite.

Don't be surprised to see the iPhone on the other networks, just to rub it in Verizon's face.

HA! I doubt that!

You made the exact same point I did. And considering Verizon has stated that they want the iPhone, I'd say you could easily see Verizon getting the iPhone.

It isn't a matter of if, it is a matter if when. Plain and simple. It doesn't make sense for Apple not to open it up to other carriers. Verizon makes the most sense.

Verizon has 92.8 million subscribers. 17% state they're interested in the iPhone. Apple gains 15.8 million more iPhone users.

When, not if.

I have my iPhone and I doubt I'll leave AT&T to go back to Verizon. AT&T's service works for me. Verizon's service does not.

Bingo. You use what works for you. Some people just don't seem to understand that for some reason.

First of all, only a handful of markets around the world remain exclusive with Apple--everywhere else they are open to virtually all carriers. There is no extra revenue from selection anymore, because as your second point falsely attests--there is no revenue sharing in multi-carrier markets. I won't claim to know how it is done in the other exclusive markets, but in fact in the case of AT&T there has been no revenue sharing since the 3G's introduction. For all of Apple's control, Apple had to drop the business model they introduced in 2007 into a traditional market of carrier subsidies for the physical phone. No more revenue sharing. Verizon wouldn't have to agree to share anything on its data or telephone revenue.

If you really believe that the sticking point is a verizon logo on a phone and commercials, or letting Apple have an app store (um, you do realize they allow Android on their network right? And to let Google do whatever it wants) then nothing really will ever convince you.

While I agree with what your saying, the rumor that Apple went to Verizon first is also a non-true, old, and extremely annoying rumor as well. Apple wanted the iPhone to be sold world-wide making AT&T and Tmobile the only feasible options. (GSM)

Really?

I had Verizon and it was the worst experience I ever had after Sprint. Their network was horrible. I had a dropped call everyday. Will never consider Verizon again in this lifetime.

Ummm... an almost instantaneous increase in sales by about 8 mn. handsets (17% of the approx 50mn customers Verizon has) is not doing it "out of pure spite".

A nice side benefit will be that it will completely crush the Android eco-system.

The only reason Android exists (and is getting stronger by the day, hurting the iPhone) is because Apple is not present on 3 of the 4 carriers in the US.

Also, CDMA technology is superior to GSM technology. I would always support GSM, primarily because of replaceable sim cards, allowing you to travel to different countries and use the same phone, but a local number, but that doesn't mean its the better tech.

November is much too late.

I predict that smartphone handset sales this summer will eclipse any previous year, because the technology, features, and competition is unprecedented.

Google and Sprint have dropped a bomb with the Sprint EVO 4G and Android 2.2 releases preceding the next iPhone release.

Meanwhile, we all know more than usual about iPhone 4.0 and the iPhone 4G, and both seem like an incremental upgrade compared to what others are doing.

Finally, fed-upped-ness with AT&T is at an all-time high, and while AT&T bumping their ETF may help curb their losses in the short term, its going to burn them to the ground when contracts expire.

So, users will have a choice of hanging onto their iPhone 3G/S this summer, dealing with their dwindling iPhone batteries and drooling over Android's new phones until November (!) when they can switch to Verizon, or they can stick themselves in the eye with a knife and re-up with AT&T for another year or two in July.

There is *no way* I am re-upping with AT&T with Verizon and maybe even Sprint launching this year, period. That would be moronic.

But I know I cant wait until November either. My 3GS battery no longer lasts a full day and I'm not paying Apple $80 to take my iPhone for 3 days and return it erased.

Hello EVO.

2012...it should be obvious....is AT&T stupid? I think not...if you believe AT&T is about to lose exclusivity this summer (2010) without doing anything to get more android devices on it's network, you are crazy...AT&T is not making any moves because they know they have the iPhone for another 2 years....I believe there will be an announcement leading up to the 2012 multi carrier plan...but it won't be until 2012...and deep down I feel Verizon might NEVER get the iphone; the Verizon/Google tablet partnership and the continued Motorola partnership could very well end up being hinderances to Apple and Verizon teaming up....this makes me think the Sprint Rumor may be true and I've always thought Tmobile would be next in line anyways...it would be very like Apple to give it to every other carrier except Verizon IMO

"fed upness with AT&T is at an all time high"

this is propoganda...I, like millions of other AT&T users are completely satisfied with our service...

"Apple has a five-year exclusivity deal with AT&T (T, Fortune 500), according to court documents, making it unlikely that the iPhone could come to Verizon before 2012."

As I've posted in the past, my experience with AT&T/Cingular has been great. I get great service in the North East (better than I ever did with Verizon) and it works every where I go.

Shame on you Verizon

...for this latest attempt by your loyal supporters (employees, stock holders) to delay the inevitable exodus to other providers. This has been going on for 3 years now (rumor after rumor).

You committed the Business Blunder of the Decade by not working with Apple.

Now you are left with waiting until your LTE footprint is large enough to support an LTE iPhone (2013-14?). In the meantime, your only tool left in your purse is false hope to your current customers. Shame on you.

contracts can always be broken

Probably just another rumor floated by Verizon to delay further customer switching until they do actually get the iPhone.
