I went from a Verizon Droid owner (Motorola Droid, V1) to the Verizon iPhone. So far so good. The iPhone has a much better screen, much better touchscreen dynamics, much easier to type on, much faster. Admittedly, the Droid has a much slower processor. Browser on the iPhone seems much faster than the Droid browser, too. Battery life so far seems about 50% better than the best I ever got out of the Droid. iPhone camera is just awesome! I do miss the built in speech to text on the Droid.

Try the Dragon Dictation free app for the speech to text thing.

I'm gonna laugh when all of these type of people realize verizon won't get tha new iPhone till Feb!!! What then!?

Then Apple loses a customer, unless I can get the iphone 4 for $99 with no contact in June.

I will still keep Verizon though. I just hope I can get a new iphone in June, if not i'll have to start studying/comparing the 100s of android phones . Not looking forward to that.

this doesn't surprise me at all. verizon's data speeds are slower, they don't offer roll-over minutes, no simultaneous voice and data, and more expensive pricing. individually each factor may not make a difference, but when you take all of these factors into account it does make a big difference.

this just proves that bloggers in silicon valley and nyc are just an echo chamber and they realized they didn't have it so bad after all. i'm not thrilled with at&t's service (particularly in rural areas) but i do love my rollover minutes and simultaneous voice and data! :)

I said this before. Sales are not doing well because many of us are NOT ELLIGIBLE FOR AN UPGRADE as we are in the middle of a contract cycle. My last new every two will be this December.

But many of us ARE eligible. I have a 3G and have been eligible since late summer of 2010. My wife is eligible for an upgrade this month. I would concede that perhaps a greater percentage of AT&T iPhone users are not eligible for an upgrade, but I bet at least a few million of us are. Not everyone buys in the summer or bought immediately upon a new iPhone's release.

Personally, we are likely going to wait til summer for the next generation iPhone, plus we are happy with AT&T so why switch?

I loved my 3G, but honestly, I think the 4 was definitely well worth the upgrade. I'm glad I have it.

Now I won't upgrade this year cause I'm stuck in the 2 year contract but I'm totally not upset over that at all. I'm still loving my 4 and can't even think of what they could put in the 5 (besides being faster cause being faster is always nice) that would make me wish I waited (even the being faster isn't that much of a perk. I'm sure my 4 will be good enough til my upgrade is up again). I love my 4 way more than I loved my 3G even.

I'd be very upset if I had to go back. The 4 is faster, has a *MUCH* better camera, a better GPS, everything I wanted to see improved on the 3G the 4 has (basically the 4 addressed every complaint I had with the 3G, cause I did have a few things I didn't like). The only thing I'll want to see improved in the 4 is speed and that's cause 2 years down the line it's going to be slow for the current crop of applications. For now it's fast enough though and I'm happy with its speed and there is nothing on it I'm dissatisfied with (unlike the 3G which there were a few things I thought could be improved).

Or in other words, at this point I couldn't fathom wanting to stay with the 3G just for the 5. The 4 is definitely good enough I'm happy that I didn't wait (I could understand if your upgrade was up now or something, but summer? Sorry, can't understand wanting to stay with the 3G just to wait for the 5 a year later. For me the 4 addressed everything I saw wrong with the 3G, and it was getting slow on even iOS 3).

The problem is they are not allowing current subscribers to buy one. My wife and I both wanted them day 1. Found out it was going to cost us $1400 ($700 each) to get them. I make very good money but that is ridiculous. You can get an iPad or a decent laptop for those prices! Interesting that the ipod touch is a stripped down iphone and can be had for a lot less. When they allow me to buy one at $199 or $299 which I guess is March of 2012 I will have one. They should offer a program for current Verizon smart phone owners to trade in what they have and be able to buy an iphone for like $100 over the contract price. Verizon's greediness is why sales are slow. People want them, just not a $700.

But if the 3G works fine for me...AND...I am only a few months away from the refresh. Why should I buy a 4 now?

I have no complaints. I know the 4 is better. HECK, I know the 3GS is better than what I have.

Why should I spend money on something that will replace something that works perfectly well for me right now, AND will be replaced by a faster model with more memory and likely have at least a few more extras thrown in?

In my world, it doesn't make sense.

Much like my owning of the 3G makes no sense to you. :)

And how do you know that there won't be something in the next release that wouldn't blow you away much like the 4 did compared to the 3G?

It boils down to money too. I could have upgraded in the summer, but was a little short on cash, plus my 3G worked just as well as it always had and was keeping me happy, so other than lusting over the cool, new device, there was nothing that was pushing me to buy at that point. And at THIS point, why not wait?

By the way. Im a Droid owner, and have been for a year now. Don't believe the hype. There are some things that are nice, but my phone freezes and locks up all the time. It has since day 1. I have exchanged it, and still the same thing. My wifes does it also. Reminds me of Windows Vista....

At this point I agree with you. What I'm saying is I just can't comprehend your decision last summer to stay ;). If your upgrade expired now, I could understand waiting.

And how do you know that there won't be something in the next release that wouldn't blow you away much like the 4 did compared to the 3G?

I don't but I wouldn't wait a whole year just to find out. By that reasoning when the 5 came out, I should just wait another year to see if the 6 is good. I can understand waiting a few months. But if I like what they have out then and it addresses what I want to see improved on what I have then, why would I wait on the off chance the next one will have something I really want.

At this point I'm happy with my 4 and if the 5 comes out with some thing I want, I'll just hope the 6 still has it (kinda like I was jealous of the 3GS doing video and I did kinda like the compass. Though I have to say the 4 was worth waiting for). But unless I made a lot of money, I probably wouldn't upgrade when I don't have upgrade pricing anyways. Worth the savings to just wait til I get subsidized pricing.

True true, there is always necessity. If I don't find a better job by 2012, I might have to be satisfied with the 4 rather than upgrading (to tell the truth I have a tendency to upgrade phones everytime I get an upgrade cause usually I can afford it with the subsidy and I like getting new tech).

Stay where you are -- a repair droid will come find you soon.

I hear similar stories from my friends that have Droids.

Which phones? I dont think this is very representative of the most popular droids. My Moto Droid 1 never really had problems other than being a tad sluggish at times. My wifes incredible, is...well, pretty d@mn good. The thing about Android is, it is still so infant yet has so much potential. The flagship models are going to eventually develop the polish that Apple currently has with the iPhone. I do think at some point Google is going to implement a bit more control with the app market and filter the stuff that tends to slow the phones down.

A colleague of mine who's been on Verizon for years told me she went down to the VZW store fully expecting to get a new iPhone. She said the salesperson actively discouraged her and told her to wait for the VZW Thunderbolt coming soon. She was persuaded. So for whatever reason, it seems the rank and file at VZW are not fully supportive of the iPhone.

My Droid X doesn't lock up any more than my iPhone does and overall is a better experience (admittedly, the iPhone is two years older).

Hrm, don't buy a current/released phone and wait for some unreleased phone which may or may not have issues and higher data costs sometime in the future... Yeah, I take it she didn't really need a phone now?

This was on 9-to-5 Mac today....it's a pain to manage voice calls on verizon.

Screen-shot-2011-02-16-at-7.29.33-AM.png

Wow, slower AND a pain in the ass?

What's so great about Verizon again?

Anyway kids, there's no point in speculating until Apple has a simultaneous iPhone launch for AT&T and Verizon.

The AT&T iPhone 4 has been available forever (in tech years); there has been a lot of people waiting on the Verizon iPhone. Of course there's going to be more orders for it. Common sense.

I'm a Verizon customer and want an iPhone. As much as I like the iPhone 4, it doesn't make sense to get one now and be pissed in about 3 months when the next iPhone gets announced in early June. I currently own a 3rd gen iPod Touch so my iOS needs have been taken care of since Sept. 2009. It's 64GB (actual capacity is 59GB) with about 24GB left over and I would prefer my first iPhone to have that capacity as well. NFC would be a nice addition as well and may come in handy by the end of next year. I'm also hoping that it will be easier to manage voice calls on the next CDMA iPhone, based on the chart above.

I'm hoping these less than expected Verizon iPhone sales prompts Apple to release a Verizon CDMA version of the next iPhone in June/July, instead of possibly waiting until Sept. or Oct. to appease early Verizon iPhone adopters. As for LTE, I think it's too early and don't think we'll see an LTE iPhone until next year. Besides for the average iPhone user today, 3G is more than enough. In a couple of years it may be a different story and by then, the tech/coverage will be much better.

She has an original Droid but was looking forward to getting an iPhone but like many of us who like getting new technology she is torn between getting a hot new phone right now and an even hotter one two months from now. The more puzzling question was why a VZW employee was putting that word out now. I would think a tech store salesperson would sell everything he could right now.

Interesting specs for an android phone.. Although it is still an android phone.

Most likely the sales reps get much better commissions on HTC phones, for example, then they do on iPhones.. so they have no real incentive to sell them. One of the problems with commission based sales retailers.

Although doesn't fully explain to dissuade a sure sale today versus a potential one down the road. Probably just a dumb employee.

Doesn't sound like the whole story.

Perhaps she also asked, "Do you think it's a good deal to get the IP4 this late in its life?", or "Do you think the IP5 will have LTE?", and the salesperson gave a reply that fit those questions.
