someone may have already posted this, but I don't think you can compare the two. When AT&T had the iphone it was just released. Verizon is getting it after the fact. If anything its impressive the numbers are the same considering how many people already have one on AT&T.
That doesn't really make sense.
Every person who is buying an AT&T phone today is one who will not likely be switching to Verizon in two years.
People expected this mass exodus from Verizon to AT&T and it didn't happen and it is not going to happen.
As for people claiming everyone is waiting on the iPhone 5... almost anyone who wants an iPhone on Verizon has no idea about the iPhone 5 or when it might come out... So there is no way that is the reason for the overwhelming majority of people.
What it does is allow people with REAL signal issues to settle with Verizon on the iPhone. The reality is the number of people who fall under that umbrella are much smaller than lots of people here have been claiming for the past couple years.
Otherwise AT&T and Verizon are just resigning their own customers, new customers and trading some others between each other.
This move is not going to improve Verizon's marketshare over AT&T in any significant way, but it will keep them from losing marketshare.
The voice data thing is a problem and did get some press, but I am not sure the average user understands it.. Although they might because I hear it stupidly explained. I did not appreciate it on the original iPhone, so I certainly view it as a big negative.. but I don't have any reason to leave AT&T, so it is not even a consideration for me.
If i was having signaling problems with AT&T and wanted to switch, I would wait until they had a phone that allowed simultaneous usage, but that is only because I have first-hand experience with an iPhone that could not do it, and it blows.
